did you try to hide it like mr bean in the fine restaurant?

I don’t think I’ve seen that scene, am going to have to look it up. Love Mr Bean! My ex helped me save face by eating half of it and then I declared I was full 😂

queenofthewild · 30/09/2022 16:48

@Batiqueattic yes Kimchi also.

I ate Kimchi on the same plate as the boingy tripe.

Kimchi in Asia is NOTHING like the Kimchi in this country (which is quite nice). "Proper" kimchi is pickled putrid garlicky bin juice.

JustDanceAddict · 30/09/2022 16:52

A relative’s cooking (a meat dish). It tasted like pedigree chum! i couldn’t physically eat it and I can usually stomach most food!

JustDanceAddict · 30/09/2022 16:54

Agree on Hershey’s- tastes like puke

Its 50:50 between Cactus in Mexico and an Army Ration Pack Corned beef Hash-cold, as we didn't have time to heat them up.

Late to the thread but holy shit the corned beef hash was vile. All about beans with sausages.

Oysters! I'm not sure what's worse - putting in mouth for (bleurgh) taste or feeling the slippery bastard slide its way down my GI tract!

I once decided to make my own honey and mustard sauce to marinade chicken in the slow cooker. The recipe called for barely any Dijon mustard so I thought ‘that can’t be right’ and freestyled it. I created a new type of chemical warfare that day. The first hint I had gone astray was when our eyes wouldn’t stop watering while it was cooking. I took one bite and promptly noped right out of there. My dh, who is famous for eating whatever monstrosity I have cooked and proclaiming it delicious, took a tentative bite and disappeared from the table for about 10 minutes - the reasons for which have never been clarified for reasons of politeness. In that time my ds started crying hysterically at the thought of even trying a bite, which soon progressed to even being in the same room as said concoction.

We ordered a pizza.

You just made my day! I’m heavily pregnant as well and am sure I nearly induced labour the way I was laughing and jiggling my mountain of a belly.

thank you.

bakehimawaytoys · 30/09/2022 18:21

Sweetbreads. I had them in a Michelin star restaurant thinking they sounded quite nice but not knowing what they were ... and they were absolutely foul. The flavour stayed with me for days Envy

Nannewnannew · 30/09/2022 18:33

The gallons of laxative prep that you have to take before a colonoscopy! (sorry, I can’t remember the name, ) At first it didn’t seem too bad but then even the smell of it made me nauseous-it’s absolutely awful.

A misu soup-that was awful too, just like dishwater.

9thlife · 30/09/2022 18:47

habibihabibi · 29/09/2022 19:17

What is different in it that makes it so very bad?
We've American neighbours who will soon be dishing out Hersheys and Reece's Peanut butter cups and some ghasty corn candies for Halloween...... boak.
Do you think Americans hate lovely Lindt and Green &Blacks ?

I love American candy more than uk
even like the chocolate, reeses is the best!

Omg yes, the prep is the worst thing I’ve ever had.
it took me hours to drink it, I threw up some as well.
the camera was nothing.

Picolax !!!!! Yip given out a few of those in my time

I’ve eaten quite a few things under the “disgusting” category

Pigs trotters and eyes
Bull scrotum
Snakes
Snails and frogs
Rats
Squirrels
Dog (wasn’t told until after I’d eaten it)
Chocolate dipped & plain grasshoppers/cicadas
Mexican caviar (live grubs)
BBQ jungle spider
Ants
Sea urchins

All the above I could manage but what I cannot tolerate are eels and lampreys.

Wow! This is an extensive menu you've tried! I feel vindicated that you couldn't handle the eel either Grin

Bonjovispjs · 30/09/2022 20:20

Salty liquorice 🤮

Underthehills · 30/09/2022 20:20

Was once invited to a pig killing then pig roast in a remote village in the Czech Republic. Fortunately I had an evil cold so having made sure we arrived too late for the pig killing, I pleaded being too ill to eat the blood soup that was put in front of me. It looked okay to start with but after a few minutes it separated out with the dark on the bottom and the light on the top. Am in no way vegetarian but that evening nearly turned me.

queenofthewild · 30/09/2022 20:24

I love eel. I feel like I may be alone in this.

Dutch smoked eel
Japanese teriyaki eel. Yum.

KhaleesiOfChaos · 30/09/2022 20:35

I was once presented with a "delicacy" in China that was apparently good for my mildly acne prone skin.

It was a hollowed out raw potato, with a really sweet clear liquid in it and lots of gelatinous blobby things floating in it. Envy

My hosts either couldn't / wouldn't explain what it was!

autienotnaughty · 30/09/2022 20:38

Wasabi it's vile

Words · 30/09/2022 20:54

I'm not fond of hot curry, or eel or oyster, but would eat if push comes to shove.

Just cannot abide American style pizza. ( Sorry US readers) The thick, greasy layer of topping, the flobby, equally greasy, strangely sweet, bready base... utterly disgusting.

Has there ever been a food that has migrated so far from the simple, delicious, original?
