What would be a good present for a woman's 60th?

It's my boss's 60th soon and we're all chipping in to get her something nice/ fun.

Any ideas as we don't actually know her that well!

it so depends on the type of woman she is, I am 60 this year and I can tell you what I dont want, Tea at the Ritz/Savoy, would make me feel really old, nothing from Pandora, too generic, No 'statement necklaces' too Prue Leith.

What I would like is a night in a good hotel, dinner at a good resturant with my friends, loads of food and booze and laughs. I would quite like one of those driving experiences where you get to take super cars for a spin etc.

MuddlerInLaw · 28/09/2022 18:27

How much will you have to spend?

And what does she like / enjoy / value? Does she have expensive tastes - or not? Would she prefer an item or experience or something to consume?

I’m a similar age and would not want anything to which the adjective nice could be applied! And one person’s ‘fun’ is another’s excruciating cringe, so …

From people who don’t know me well I’d prefer something impersonal like a really good cake to share and some single malt.

Day trip on a posh excursion train such as the Northern Belle?

Tickets to the opera/London show/Stratford?

Champagne?

Without a budget, it's impossible to make any suggestions really.

Sophieagain1984 · 28/09/2022 18:40

I’d get someone to discreetly ask her.

urbanbuddha · 28/09/2022 19:06

Voucher for a flying lesson or a cinema pass or Chanel no 5 (find out if she actually likes it first).

Mercedesbenz2022 · 28/09/2022 19:21

Not a wine glass with 60 on !
I got 3 of them , straight in the charity bag . Wine was appreciated though

ApolloandDaphne · 28/09/2022 19:24

I just turned 60. I didn't really want anything apart from food, wine, champagne and vouchers for my favourite jewellers!

Yes. Actually I wouldn't mind if you asked me straight out. I am 58 and three quarters.

caringcarer · 28/09/2022 20:31

I got a trip to Bruges from my son. I loved that. Other son got me new extra large/strong camping chair so I could use it to watch foster son playing cricket. Spa day, cream tea at kitty cafe if she likes cats.

FourChimneys · 28/09/2022 20:33

I had some rather niche sports equipment but maybe that's not for everyone.

My friend's family gave her a balloon trip which she loved.

Mindgone · 28/09/2022 20:34

Is there a particular charity she might like it donated to + flowers/booze/chocs?

MuddlerInLaw · 28/09/2022 20:37

Unfortunately we don’t know whether the OP and her colleagues will be contributing the price of a bottle of bourbon or a transatlantic flight!

Hillrunning · 28/09/2022 20:38

At any age, I'd rather be directly asked than have people spend money on me that wasn't right as I would feel guilty. Jsut have someone who know her best say, the office needs ideas for your 60th please.

Why on earth is a 60th birthday present be a charity donation?

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 28/09/2022 20:41

Apologies, I was dictating that. I meant why on earth should her 60th birthday present be a charity donation?

321zyx · 28/09/2022 20:42

This was me recently, I received an (unexpected) John Lewis voucher from work which I really appreciated.

luckylavender · 28/09/2022 20:53

I was 60 recently & had some great thoughtful presents. A fountain pen from my team. Chanel No 5 from my boss. Diamond studs from my husband. Some Oliver Bonas earrings & a 3 month Bloom & Wild subscription from a friend etc. What I gave away, all the chocolates & all the Prosecco.

NeedWineNow · 28/09/2022 21:07

I was 60 recently. I got some money from friends and family as I had set my heart on buying a piece of Clogau silver and Welsh gold jewellery. I also got champagne glasses from White Company, lovely dinner out with loads of wine, and DH got me a bag and dress that I wanted from Michael Kors. I was away at a wedding at the same time so I kept it all quite low key as I didn't want to overshadow the wedding.

SuperCamp · 28/09/2022 21:10

I would like:
Picturehouse Membership (5 free films, loads of other discounts)
Art Pass / Tate Membership
Ilse Jacobsen wellies
A few niche camping accessories
Polish bison grass vodka
New day rucksack for walking (would need to be carefully chosen by me)

Tigertigertigertiger · 28/09/2022 21:10

A garden shed

chatterbox95 · 28/09/2022 21:18

Things I would appreciate are restaurant vouchers or a meal out with some wine, cinema vouchers, a spa day or maybe jewellery. If you know her taste. Does she enjoy shopping or buy in particular places? Or talk about something she would love but wouldn't buy herself? Vouchers for these shops would be a good idea too then she can pick exactly what she wants and enjoy the day out treating herself Smile

Justcallmebebes · 28/09/2022 21:48

I'm shy of 60. A foot spa please 😩

Ragwort · 28/09/2022 22:06

I would have been delighted with a charity donation for my 60th ... as it was I just made it clear that I didn't want any presents ... and I wasn't disappointed Grin.

sleepymum50 · 28/09/2022 22:23

A never fail gift for me is a nice indoor or outdoor plant with a nice pot.
