Is anyone up? Awaiting a 111 call back.

I rang 111 at 10 for my 6 year old and told I'd be called back within an hour....still waiting and worried sick. My poor child wants to be in her own bed but her sisters sleeping in their bedroom and the clinician will want me to wake her up when they eventually phone back, she's currently napping in between coughing her lungs up, she's had a low grade fever since Saturday evening and her nails and lips now look purplish/bluish (though not constantly, they seem to get better then worse again). She's not wheezing or gasping for breath, although she's had no voice since Sunday so it's a little hard to say whether or not she can talk normally. I feel like I'm torturing myself at the moment because I have no idea what to do here, but if it were an emergency 111 would have sent us straight to hospital and certainly wouldn't be leaving it this long for a 1 hour call back surely?

See? You were right to call up. Sleep apnea can be life threatening.

Go get some decent sleep then start figuring out how to get rid of DH. If a partner can't step up when a child needs hospital urgently then he is of zero use to you. Who needs hangers on dragging you down.

Agree. I'm amazed at how some "DH" can be so useless.

Good luck in getting the operation sooner rather than later. Glad she’s a bit better now. And thanks for coming back with the update.

Don’t ever think you’ve over reacted. Always take every precaution- there are no second chances with life. You did the right thing OP xx glad she’s ok xx

Sorry for disappearing, my daughters been seen. She is suffering from obstructive sleep apnea(?) Her tonsils are very large which we did know and have been waiting for an ENT appointment for a long time for, obviously waiting lists are huge. She's never suffered quite as badly as last night though, they think because of the virus she's had her tonsils were even more inflamed than usual which is why it was so bad last night. She is much better this morning, although very uncomfortable with her throat, but I have been told to chase up the ENT appointment to see where she is on the list.

My daughter had this, she's 3 and had her tonsils removed in April. If you phone ENT to see where she is on the list and if she's really low call your GP to send a supporting letter to get her expedited up the list.

DD had tonsillitis or a ear infection 14 times last year so when she got put on the list in March she was the bottom. I contacted our GP and whatever they sent got her pushed to the top. She was in with children that had had their ops delayed because of covid. She sleeps so much better now and doesn't struggle

This is really interesting, I was told by my GP that they aren't allowed to chase up referrals and that I'd have to do it myself. She was referred back in February and there were no appointments available what so ever on NHS choices and we've been waiting since then. She's had problems sleeping since she was around 2 but nobody ever took it particularly seriously until February this year when a GP finally did refer her but we never see the same one twice at our surgery. In fact the doctor I spoke too yesterday told me 'she might grow out of it' as if that's going to help the years of sleepless nights before that happens. Sorry for the rant, I'm just very fed up with it all now. She's already behind in school because lack of sleep affects everything and now it's clearly getting worse.

The GP can definitely help with expediting, it was actually the admin for ENT that told me to get a GP letter to them to speed up the process.

I think if ENT have put her on the list they don't think she'll grow out of it. Best thing that ever happened was her tonsils getting removed, she has grommets too and they should fall out within the next year but they'll get checked again by ENT and if she needs them again then that would happen.

Honestly tell your GP the hospital told you they can send a supporting letter and hopefully she can get pushed up the list. I felt awful on all the other parents who's children were higher up the list than DD. But 14 infections in a year, constant covid testing before A& E trips and the not sleeping at all because I'm on my own with her. I just had had enough and she was miserable and so was I. Its like having a different child now, good luck OP x
