Hi, I'm here today because I'm addicted to shopping especially when I'm feeling low, online shopping. Recently I've been buying alot of coats in all colours they not too expensive but do I really need all of them.
How many coats should a woman have?

I've got 9 i think. No, 10. Denim jacket, velvet bomber, another short going out at night style jacket, 3 really warm winter coats, one gillet, 2 raincoats, and a dressy knee length woollen coat. Oh and a new padded bum skimming length jacket. I am outdoors almost all I'd the time between my job, my kids and my dog so feel justified.

HappyMum543 · 25/09/2022 19:42

Yeah, i have about 17 including rain coats & couple of short jackets. I'm ok not so bad. Thanks for replying 🙂

I have one coat, owned it probably 25 years. Seen me through two winter pregnancies

I also have a lightweight waterproof jacket and a cotton/denim type jacket.

I've no need for anymore but then I realise I'm not into fashion as I own one pair of boots and 2 pairs of shoes. Plus 2 handbags.

I think I'm the odd one tbh

IceStationZebra · 25/09/2022 19:46

2 smart wool coats (one knee length, one shorter)
Berghaus waterproof
Biker jacket
knee length padded duvet coat
denim jacket
Couple of thick blazer-type jackets
A wool cape

I don’t have much suitable for spring & autumn. Macs don’t suit me.

HappyMum543 · 25/09/2022 19:47

Yeah, I think a girl needs a nice coat to finish off her outfit.
Thanks everyone for giving me answers wow so many different opinions I'm over whelmed.

You're my kind of person! I have lots of coats - lightweight jackets, winter coats, dog walking rain coats, leather jackets etc etc. Then I have shoes to go with said coat. And boots. And trainers. Then jeans that go with the trainers... 😬

MinglingFlamingo · 25/09/2022 19:50

2x waterproofs 2 of which is an emergency one kept in the car
1x Barbour
1x smart Mac
2x duffle type coats again a bit smart for everyday but wear when going out of an evening
1x ski jacket
1x one which acts as an extra layer in spring

Also have 2x denim jackets, 2x gilets

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 25/09/2022 19:50

I have a long warm winter coat.
A 3-in-1 short waterproof coat for hiking.
A waterproof cycling jacket.
A fake fur coat I bought for a Christmas party last year.

Lots of hoodies, which is what I usually wear if it's not raining, snowing or freezing.

A580Hojas · 25/09/2022 19:51

I've got two: warm coat and rain coat.

Spudlet · 25/09/2022 19:52

If I do a tally, I have…
1 long wool coat
1 short wool coat
1 thin wax jacket
1 padded farmers wax jacket
1 leather jacket
1 gilet
1 puffa jacket
1 parka
4 waterproof jackets for various activities
1 horse riding jacket
1 soft shell work jacket

So 14 in total 😳 But all accumulated over many years, and all worn and useful at different times.

HappyMum543 · 25/09/2022 19:53

Yesss I'm so happy 😊 majority of you people are like me...

God I have loads..! Leather biker, bomber jackets, parka, about four puffas (and am going to buy the Primark leopard print one asap), bright yellow crombie, orange trench, black trench, navy fluffy teddy bear coat, leopard print, camo jacket, silver waterproof, long tweed coat a la Withnail and I, oversized 80s denim jackets...
You get the idea.

Ellie56 · 25/09/2022 19:57

I've got about 12. But I've had most of them for years.

LoobyDop · 25/09/2022 20:03

I think ideally you’d have at least:

  • smart, warm wool coat for winter. Probably 3/4 or full length. My current favourite is a straight-cut 3/4 length mid-grey wool/cashmere.
  • casual warm coat for winter- puffer or parka. Shorter than the wool one. My main one is a grey wool parka with furry lined hood.
  • smart waterproof for spring/summer/autumn- probably a trench coat.
  • between-seasons casual coat for when you need more than a light jacket but not really really warm. I have a leather aviator-style jacket with a faux fur collar and a wool pea coat.
  • lightweight jacket for the not-hot bits of summer. Denim.

Having said that I have several in each of those categories, plus casual lightweight waterproofs and fake furs for evenings. But I buy and have way more than I need.

AsterixInEngland · 25/09/2022 20:05

I have 3 and I thought it was a lot….

Smartiepants79 · 25/09/2022 20:06

I have maybe 6/7. Some I’ve owned for 10 years+. I would be ever buy more than one new one in a season.

MiniTheMinx · 25/09/2022 20:07

1 knee length wool coat
1 long navy wool coat
2 rabbits (ancient, not bought new)
1 long grey coat
1 black and white dog tooth coat
1 parka
1 navy wool oversized coat
1 Barbour
1 red wool coat

I have lots of jackets, mainly military velvet style different colours, a couple of blazers, black tux style, and biker jackets.

I like coats, I can be lazy and not think too much about what I am wearing, and then stick on a coat and a hat and suddenly look put together.

tyyger · 25/09/2022 20:08

Not going to be helpful but I think coats are one of the most important parts of the wardrobe & often overlooked. I have about 20

coconotgrove · 25/09/2022 20:09

About fifteen, I think. Currently have my eye on three, but will wait until they go on sale in a few months time. Coats are probably the only thing I like about the colder weather. I couldn’t imagine wearing the same one all winter.

Manicpixidreamgirl · 25/09/2022 20:09

I have:
1 duvet coat
1 winter coat
1 waterproof mac
1 warm hoodie
Numerous light zip up hoodies as jackets

Seaweasel · 25/09/2022 20:10

I have 2 coats - one a waterproof for work and walking etc. One a black wool formal coat for funerals and job interviews. I also have a gilet for warmer days. I've had all three for about 15 years. Have never really thought about adding to the coat collection, I don't need another one.

tyyger · 25/09/2022 20:11

Within that are macs, trenchcoats, shackets, dusters, puffers, wool, teddy, faux fur in various lengths & colours.

tyyger · 25/09/2022 20:11

I haven't included jackets in that 😆

Colourmehappy26 · 25/09/2022 20:13

I think if you’ve said you’re addicted to shopping and do it when feeling low, this is the problem, no matter how many coats you have and in comparison with others. Why do you think you turn to shopping? Can you afford it?
