@Changingmynameyetagain

I meant the nation will sing to Will and to George, not just the two of them.

Do you think that's one of her ponies that's come to say goodbye? 😭

It was her pony..called Emma

Probably easier for the man to go first and shuffle along to the other side than the women in their dresses and heels.

Wasn't here someone each side to open the doors?

I don't think anyone needed to shuffle across!

Was quite surprised to see Charles do it!

I guess he had had enough& cba/didn't think to go to the other side.

Charles will always go in first now as he's the monarch - unless there's a logistical reason for Camilla to go first. I noticed that the Queen always got Phillip to get in the carriages first because he could scoot over to the other side and keep it stable and made it easier for her to get in.

William is now the heir and so has a significantly higher status than when he was simply Duke of Cambridge. For protocol, he should always go first into cars, rooms, engagements etc. In the past he's let Catherine go first a lot of the time particularly if they are at one of her patronages but who knows if that will continue.

Former hostage Terry Waite recently revealed the kindness he received from HM Queen.

He kept it a secret for 30 years.

The bit that really got me was the removing of the crown, orb and sceptre from the coffin...it really seemed to mark the end of her reign.

The whole day has been amazing.

I have a daughter called Charlotte who’s the same age as Princess Charlotte. I hope she can be some kind of role model for her.

Really?

Rapidtango · 19/09/2022 19:15

The whole day was awesome, in the true sense of the word. It must have been such an emotional day for the family, and so historic seeing the symbolism of the sceptre, orb and crown, the breaking of the Chamberlain:s cane.

The pall bearers, choirs, the hundreds of servicemen and women, the thousands of police officers, those who arranged the beautiful flowers at Windsor, and the BBC for the amazing coverage, what a truly heroic effort from all involved.

I agree, @Yucca78 Once the Dean placed the crown on the altar, I felt that the monarch I've known all my life was really gone.

Charles looked very emotional, and I wondered whether that was the moment when it felt real to him.

I suspect the Queen didn’t really weigh all that much by the end, she was only little anyway and she lost a lot of weight in the last year

The coffin was lead lined so guessing it was super heavy

TiddyTidTwo · 19/09/2022 19:24

Gosh so many moments today, too many to list.

As ex British Army, I have shed more than a few tears for my Commander in Chief, The Boss. But also as a member of the British public, a mother and a daughter, a dog owner and a horse owner. HM was many things to many people.

Today has shown what the British are about, a proud nation even in troubled times. Nowhere in the world can you experience what happened today.

And finally, a massive salute to these men.

The RF seemed surprised and touched by the level of support. It's almost as though their teams confused social media bots and drama for how people feel in RL in the UK. You'd have thought they'd have realised by now that social media trends have no connection to the general public.

I notice the Bidens left England immediately after the Westminster Abbey part. Am somewhat surprised they were not invited to Windsor.

Why? Other foreign heads of state weren't, just other royal families to whom her late Majesty was rerlated and some Commonwealth people maybe. Invite one and you have to invite them all, Biden's not special, despite how his security behave.

TheWernethWife · 19/09/2022 19:34

Camilla looks to have aged 10 years since the Queen died.

Carmakomelian · 19/09/2022 19:38

I've been pretty sad about the death of the Queen and supportive of the monarchy. Then today I read about the guards who are taught to faint to attention. Even if they break teeth etc. And it made me feel a bit sick. To be so inferior even when you are taken ill. And suddenly the whole thing had a bad taste for me, and I think I'm out.

Sparklythings1 · 19/09/2022 19:45

I cried twice about the queen’s death.. once as her plane turned the corner on the runway in Aberdeen and took off. It was on sky news and a Scottish lady said she just wanted to say to her ‘don’t go’ just as the plane went 😢

I cried today as soon as the drums and pipes started right at the very beginning. It should be a happy occasion to celebrate her very long life really but it does still feel sad that she’s gone. The sort of cyclical nature of the whole thing made me think about my own life/family etc, 10 and 20 years really isn’t all that long when you think how fast a year goes by so it’s scary to think in another 10 or 20 years Charles could be away and William would be king. He’s not much older than me, it’s terrifying how quick life goes by!

Yes, she looked drawn, not surprising, really.

I think her Charles and Ann all look exhausted and in need of break.

Minniem2020 · 19/09/2022 19:47

The family must be physically and mentally exhausted. I know they probably won't but I'd like to think they can now have a bit of time to themselves just to process everything in private.

Thats the military everywhere I think, its what they're trained for.

What a lovely post .

❤️💙🤍

Today was absolutely beautiful. Pure class and utterly gracious, elegant and perfectly executed.

It was incredibly moving .

God bless her Majesty. May she rest in perfect peace.

Yes - I'm pretty sure it's designed to minimise injuries from the weapon they are holding to themselves or the soldiers they are standing next to, and to minimise causing issue for their fellow soldiers if they fell sideways into the person standing next to them. They could 'take out' 2+ other guards doing that.

It's not just UK military guards who follow that kind of protocol when in ceremonial formations.

Definitely, she's the Anne in their relationship!

National mourning is over after tonight, so yes I think this is for the RF to have a much-needed break before resuming public engagements.

Isn't there a period of 'Court Mourning' that carries on longer, somewhere I think I've seen another week.

How can a person faint to attention? Surely you have no control over it?

RedToothBrush · 19/09/2022 19:56

Macron just put up a video on his twitter paying tribute to the Queen. It's really touching and set me off.
