Ninja Warrior females - why?

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:39

Why do the female contestants on NW UK have a shorter course than the men? Watching this with my two young DD, how shit for them to see the men go on to another part of the course to complete but the women don't.

I thought we were getting somewhere?? Apparently not.

I felt the opposite op. I was fed up seeing brilliant female athletes be beaten by mediocre males. Women are physiologically different. Not lesser, just different. Play like for like.

Well said. Average men would beat incredible women athletes just for having a wider arm span.

PuttingDownRoots · 18/09/2022 14:00

This morning DD had Rugby practice. She plays on U11/U10 team... its mixed. She knows she's the smallest player. She can see the boys are broader and taller than her. She tries her best, but isn't quite seen as equal. She's also the youngest. (9.5... there's two other girls that are both 10, she's smaller than them too)

She can see the U12s practicing on the next pitch. Theoretically still a mixed team... but no girls. Some of them could pick her up with one arm.

Then she can also see the Girls U15s team. All of them playing hard and having fun. So she sees that Girls can play Rugby (just need to get her through the next couple of years of Minis!)

Men are stronger/more powerfull while women are more beautiful, men were built for combat while women were built to look beautiful and more appealing.

Lets face it, As a man the male body just isnt good to look at unlike the female body

Balls. If this was true, all women would be lesbians.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/09/2022 14:40

I think after years of all the later stages being dominated almost entirely by men, it makes sense to make a female category. I wonder if the program found that audience numbers dwindled as each season progressed?

User59329 · 18/09/2022 14:44

When it comes to games like chess, darts, shooting or games that doesnt really require physicality, reactions or pace then a woman can compete with a man.

User59329 · 18/09/2022 14:48

@Prescottdanni123 but most men are under 6ft so technically they are being heightist as well lol.

User59329 · 18/09/2022 14:57

@PorkPieAndAPickledOnion lol well id say the vast majoraty of women are at least bisexual. I hear women talk about male athletes getting paid more but why do female runway models or pornstars get more money than male runway models/pornstars?

When we want to see something that is visually appealing or sexy who do we want to see? Women

But when there is a fire or a terrorist who is holding people hostage would you trust a man or a woman to save you? If you were trapped in a fire would you want a man or a woman to save you?

Obviously a man. Men and women are both different but that doesnt mean one is less inferior than the other.

I’ve gotten angry in previous years where they did do the Same course and no allowance was made. The finalists were always male as they will always beat a woman

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/09/2022 15:07

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 13:32

But would they constantly lose? Surely it's better for them to see the opportunities are open to both men and women in the first place. Women don't even get the chance.

Yes, they would.

It's not better for children to see women constantly fail and that in competitions, many, many men will outperform women at every turn.

'Hey girls, look, you too could fail miserably compared to men. If you train really, really hard and are exceptionally lucky, you could even only be beaten by the first 30. And then people can say 'aww bless, didn't she try really hard?'.

After all, who wants to aspire to be a loser?

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 15:12

@NeverDropYourMooncup so it's just a lost cause then? I do agree with what you're saying, it's so frustrating.

Women are built differently from men. The female body, like it or not, is designed around gestating a child, so you find differences in the size of the pelvis and so on that mean women can't compete with men at sport. They also have shorter limbs, smaller lungs, less muscle mass etc that male puberty supply to a man. That doesn't make women inferior; it makes them different. The things the female body can do that the male can't are amazing.

Anyone who thinks women are "inferior" to men because of these differences needs to give their head a wobble, frankly.

I wonder if all the ridiculous stuff we see on screen, such as Scarlett Johanssen bearing the crap out of men, makes people forget these facts, along with the attempts by some trans men to colonise women's sports and claiming to be no different from a natal woman Confused

I'm sure the makers of the programme carried out risk assessments before coming to their decision.

iklboo · 18/09/2022 15:25

Porn isn't a documentary. We're not all for a bit of fanny fun at the drop of a hat.

Speak for yourself.

Googlecanthelpme · 18/09/2022 15:30

Women are not the same as men. SOME elite female athletes will be better than a fairly mediocre male, sure. But the vast majority will not be. Not without steroids anyway.

to sum it up, the average 35 year old woman has the equivalent grip strength of an 80 year old man.

Heres a study if you’d like to read up on it

Recognising biological differences between men and women does not undermine the feminist movement, it is a crucial element of it. Especially in this time of continuing appropriation of female spaces (in sport and otherwise).

Pengwinn · 18/09/2022 15:34

Men and women aren't the same biologically and physically, I don't see the issue with recognising this and giving women a chance to be honest.

Natsku · 18/09/2022 15:42

It wouldn't be equal to have them do the exact same course because we aren't physically equal. Its important to take that into account. For instance my 11 year old just had fitness tests at school and the benchmarks were different for girls than for the boys, to take into account the physical differences (so, for example, the girls needed to do fewer sit ups to achieve top marks)

Can you elaborate? I'd love to understand the crucial element. Not being narky, genuinely interested! I'd love to be able to change my viewpoint on this.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 18/09/2022 16:18

Because rather than recognising the nature and strengths of women in their own right, you’re comparing them to a benchmark set by men.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 18/09/2022 16:23

Also, pretending women aren’t vulnerable to men (through no fault or lack of effort on their own part) does women a disservice by failing to keep them safe. It means we won’t win races too. How is that feminist? We don’t get the same opportunities as men if we don’t recognise biological differences and eg male pattern violence.

PickySlackTastic · 18/09/2022 16:29

The way women compete has long been a failure of the ninja warrior format. It was always really disheartening to see women compete against men but so rarely make finals.

But this is an awful way to address the issue. They need two separate competitions. And maybe a mixed doubles just for fun too Grin

Namenic · 18/09/2022 16:40

Personally I think they should have a course which was more suited to women’s average body dimensions. So same obstacles but gaps slightly smaller, heights shorter. women should have a choice to enter the women-only competition or the mixed event.

i am really impressed with how far some women get though! Sometimes they do a lot better than I think they are going to.

Prescottdanni123 · 18/09/2022 16:43

@User59329

Maybe 6 foot was an exaggeration but you get my point. It is set up for people that are taller than the vast majority of women.

Rosecoffeecup · 18/09/2022 16:49

I'd much rather watch women compete on a course commensurate with their physiology rather than be beaten by men on a course that advantages men. This is a level playing field, the same course wouldn't be.

someone has already pointed out this is the norm in grand slam tennis, and I understand this is the same reason why men complete in the decathlon and women the heptathlon?
