What’s the most beautiful classical music piece ever composed?

Pls help me put together a classical playlist for when I give birth in a few weeks and tell me your favourite ‘birth worthy’ piece.

I have many I love but think mine is Ralph Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, it’s gorgeously ethereal, so that’s going on there. I also love Camille Saint-Saëns's classical masterpiece, Danse Macabre but probably a little dark for this particular event even if it will be around Halloween!

I made a Spotify playlist I would be happy to share! Maybe slightly different in tone as I had to have section, which I knew prior to picking my music. It was hands down the most beautiful, magical experience of my life, and it made giving birth such a wonderful memory.

Oh yes please. Thank you!

I love Ralph Vaughan Williams music. My father was a huge classical music fan and non of the rest of the family got it.
But a few years ago suddenly the scales fell from my eyes and now I love it.I feel so sad that I wasn't able to share it with him but he is gone now sadly. But I listen to lots of his old music .
He wasn't a strong R V W fan but he is my favourite composer by far. Lazarus and Dives is my absolute favourite piece ever.

R V W is my hero. Any time I hear a piece of music and think "I love that"... turns out to be RVW. Especially hymn tunes! What a legend.

Oh the Eric Whitaker Sleep as suggested up lost is beautiful. Really lovely.

Don't mind Alexis Ffrench for a little more modern chilled classical. Not a huge Einaudi fan, but loads of people adore him.

Beethoven's 9th (ode to joy) hasn't has aentin yet. I prefer the orchestral to the choir bits as i don't like singing it much, but oh, the melody it sublime.

It just brings back recorder practice memories for me!! Lovely tune, but I don’t think the connotations will go away! I picked up a recorder the other day and could still play through muscle memory!!

I don't know about beautiful but I gave birth to DD 2 to the Rach 3. It was very rousing for the pushing!

Max Richter- Spring 1

It’s Vivaldi Four Seasons- Spring 1 recomposed, it’s very beautiful and uplifting, we had it as our exit song at our wedding.

This. I couldn't get it out of my head after watching My Briliant Friend.

The Agnus Dei from the Fauré requiem. Just beautiful.

urrrgh46 · 18/09/2022 20:50

I have lots of favourites but I have to say the piece of music that is fronting BBCs coverage of QE11 remembrance programming is really beautiful! I have no idea who's composed it - it'll have been done specially but it's so brilliant - it has me welling up every time I hear it! (Not over the queen - that is sad of course but I wouldn't cry!)

There's not a wrong note in the whole piece. It's stunning. I have to really steel myself when I've sung it as I get choked up

Is it the Debbie Wiseman piece she composed for the Queen, called Elizabeth? Have to admit I haven't watch much of the coverage but I heard this on classic FM and it's lovely

Delibes Coppelia is my favourite, closely followed by Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, although I'm not sure how suitable the second would be for giving birth to!
