You’re designing a hotel. What do you put in

Not a super high end, bougie, oxygen bar and a personal chef style hotel.

just your standard, premier inn + style.

mine is plug points near the fucking bed.

I’m currently hanging off the edge of the bed on an attempt to chill and do some work 🙃

Doors that don’t slam shut!!

I have no idea how people sleep well in hotels. Almost every hotel I stay in, I spend the whole evening/morning being jolted awake by doors along the corridor being slammed shut.

Hotel doors have to be fire doors which mean they have to have a closer on it so it’ll close by itself. No need for it to slam though I agree.

I keep an extension lead in my bag for this reason!

Curtains that close properly!

Me too! And it has 3 USB sockets too. Very useful abroad as you then only need 1 converter plug.

DuesToTheDirt · 16/09/2022 20:18

A comfy chair to curl up and read for a while, rather than having to sit on the bed.

Soundproofing.

And please don't tuck the sheets in so tightly that I can't get into bed, and then when I've managed that the sheets only come up to my chest unless I untuck the bottom end and shift them upwards. Just why?

DH suggested having a slide from the room straight down to the bar. I fear he's not taking this seriously.

No, I’m definitely on board with this! He can come be my second in command hotel designer!

I actually, and maybe this is a step too far, would really appreciate a decent hairdryer and a diffuser attachment in the room, the diffuser is a random frustration of mine!

I'm just remembering the time I stayed in a very... out there hotel which was obviously for Sex People, Lynne and the sound proofing was exceptional. I may well of put that on trip advisor. I'm not sex people, but I think sex people and people who want to sleep in the next door room to sex people, would equally appreciate that.

Oldieandgoldie · 16/09/2022 20:30

Bathroom mirrors that don’t mist up!

Bathroom fans that actually work.

Aircon/heating that works.

Windows that open.

Towels that dry.

Hairdryers that are next to a well lit mirror.

Plugs that are close to the bed, for phone alarms etc.

ie things that do the job they’re designed for!!

abw94 · 16/09/2022 20:32

A mirror at the correct height to do my hair and make up with a plug close by

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/09/2022 20:35

I find it hard to top Premier Inn frankly. I'm my opinion a hotel should either be super fancy huge bath, rainfall shower, hot tub, big enough for a sofa plus a super king-sized bed. Or they should be a Premier Inn with the comfy bed and perfectly serviceable room.

Anything between is just pointless.

But in the spirit of the thread, yes plug and/or USB port by the bed, good curtains, ability to open the window and control the room heating, lighting you don't need a PhD to work. And nothing that makes annoying noises.

EwwSprouts · 16/09/2022 20:35

Yes to windows that open & a bath.

IroningThrone · 16/09/2022 21:17

I also carry blue tack to cover annoying lights! I've never used it on the smoke alarm but it works perfectly on the TV!

IroningThrone · 16/09/2022 21:18

You know what I'd really love? A choice of duvets! Love a premier Inn but I find their pillows rock hard and the duvets smothering because they're so thick!

Perihelion · 16/09/2022 21:19

From my last PI stay, no police outside my door, because they're guarding the room opposite, as it's a crime scene. Properly shat myself and felt really guilty for no reason, coming back to my room Grin. Then got pissed off because they wouldn't tell me what happened or if it was a dead body.

Scarletpetunias · 16/09/2022 21:27

I agree with pretty much all
of these but my top issue is about hairdyers. I want a proper dryer, that is next to a mirror that I don’t have to keep my finger pressed to in order for it to stay on. Also - for hotels outside the UK - no hairdryers on the bathroom wall. I don’t want to sort my hair in the same room as I’ve just showered in where the mirror is streamed up and DP is waiting to get in after me!

Also agree with a good sized shelf in The bathroom to put toiletries on. I can’t abide having to put my toilet bag on the floor and have to bend down every time I need something.

I honestly don’t understand why hotels just can’t get these basic designs right by now.

Noseylittlemoo · 16/09/2022 21:33

I've just come back from holiday and the hotel we stayed at scored pretty highly from most of the common complaints . There was :
A proper hairdryer and a light up magnifying mirror on an arm that you could angle.
Enough towels.
Plug points both sides of the bed and reading lights that you could angle.
A full length well lit mirror.
A fridge with water bottles, and enough space for us to put cans of beer and cola.
Pillow options.
The downfalls were the glass door to the bathroom . And the toiletries were in pump containers attached to the wall. The pump was so short , I literally had to pump about 20 squirts to get an adequate amount of shampoo/ shower gel. In the end I went and bought a bottle of shampoo as it was too annoying!

LionessesRules · 16/09/2022 21:36

An alarm clock that is intuitive to set an alarm for.
Light switches that don't mean you need to flick 3 on and off to sort out the lights each time.
Family rooms that actually have a door to shut the kids away at 8pm, and be able to have an adult evening (basically 2 bedrooms behind one front door)
Sensible size glasses (pint by preference) in the room, and at breakfast.
Bigger bathroom shelf.
NO cushions/dodgy blankets on the bed
Sensible air temperature

WibbleBibble · 16/09/2022 21:45

Not having to book a separate room for our 17 year old, because he doesnt want to be in a separate room, and to not have to pay a fortune for it

catsonahottinroof · 16/09/2022 21:52

Reliable climate control
Premier Inn type beds
Mini fridge
Glasses and usual mugs/tea coffee etc
Really good, powerful shower (rainforest etc) not shower over bath
A swimming pool would be good, maybe with saunas and treatment rooms too

HairyMcLarie · 16/09/2022 21:55

A room that isn't lit up like a fucking winter wonderland of multi coloured lights (some flashing) as soon as you turn off the light.

HairyMcLarie · 16/09/2022 22:14

Nespresso machine with a large pod selection.

Not some half hearted attempt such as sachet coffee that tastes like gravy, insipid coffee 'bags' or a teeny sachet of cafetière coffee that makes two thimble size cups and is mainly full of dust as the cafetière filter has perished.

And more than two sugar sachets.

mumda · 16/09/2022 22:40

Wish list:
Quiet corridors
Blanket in cupboards
Control over heat (first time I've not had this)
Hairdryer (Not in my most recent stay.not that I use it very often)
Everything spotless.

user1471550643 · 16/09/2022 23:12

Just thought of another one .. no glass bathroom doors.. especially not with a badly placed mirror which meant if you lay on the bed you had a perfect view of the toilet 😂 .. thankfully I was alone for that trip!

Howlongwillthistake · 16/09/2022 23:32

A mirror you can get near to to do your makeup I.e. not 3ft away and preferably lit. Said mirror should be close to a window for natural light and have plugs for hairdryers, other electricals and seating so you can do your hair without sitting on the floor.
Shower curtains that don't stick to your legs and showers that don't flood the bathroom.

Howlongwillthistake · 16/09/2022 23:34

Shower head that's adjustable not just a rainfall one ...we don't all want to get our hair wet and shower caps are useless

TigerRag · 17/09/2022 06:44

A small fridge
Blackout curtains
Plugs by the bed
Dimmer switches
