Not a super high end, bougie, oxygen bar and a personal chef style hotel.

just your standard, premier inn + style.

mine is plug points near the fucking bed.

I’m currently hanging off the edge of the bed on an attempt to chill and do some work 🙃

decent pillows. too often they are just the wrong thickness where one is not enough but two is too much. if it’s abroad - enough sunbeds for everyone inc a parasol and shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom as i like to travel with hand luggage only and the liquids thing is a problem. i don’t need body lotion - no one does. A bottle of complimentary water in the room. i have tablets to take at night. thank you.

Chatterboxy · 16/09/2022 17:47

Plug sockets near a mirror!

gogohmm · 16/09/2022 17:50

Another vote for bedside sockets. I also love a motel that you park outside your room, unusual in the U.K.

MalteserGeezee · 16/09/2022 17:53

Lights! All the lights. Sick of living in semi darkness like a bloody fraggle at every hotel I stay in. Put a fucking "big light" in, for god's sake

FunsizedandFabulous · 16/09/2022 17:55

A teapot.

A desk you can work at with an adjustable chair so you're not cracking your back and neck, and it's properly lit.
Pillows that are big and fluffy not flat and uncomfortable. At least two for each person.
Free Netflix

SomethingFast · 16/09/2022 18:00

A full length mirror, and wooden or metal headboards. I don’t want to sleep next to disgusting unwashable padded fabric ones 🤢

A wheelchair accessible room(s) actually designed with enough space so the wheelchair can get around it. With a bed that can be a double or two singles, so I don't have to share a bed with my friend and couples can actually sleep together like everyone else. Also a wheelchair accessible family suite (e.g. connected twin room) if family suites are something the hotel offers. We disabled people have kids and want to stay in hotels too!

My parents had a b&b/hotel and they actually did this when they built an extension
Bed that could be separated, wheelchair accessible bathroom, disabled parking space outside and it connected to a second room for family/carer to stay as well
Was v popular

SomethingFast · 16/09/2022 18:03

Also, pet-unfriendly rooms please. Nothing against dogs, but as an asthmatic who’s severely allergic to animal fur I really need a space that not had animals in recently.

SWSUN · 16/09/2022 18:11

As well all the lights please have the light switches in a sensible arrangement . I spend so long flicking different switches whilst never getting the light I want!

Djchickpea · 16/09/2022 18:17

Also, a clock that has a gentle illumination so I know what time it is when I wake up in the middle of the night

Hbh17 · 16/09/2022 18:21

Lots of sockets, inc by the bed.
Big towels - & plenty of them
A radio (or radio channels accessible on TV)
Proper coat hangers, not the anti-theft ones - & plenty of them
Decent sized mugs
Proper heating that actually works
Proper AC that actually works
A safe
Small fridge, inc bottled water
Good reading lights
Hairdryer that isn't plugged into the wall
Iron & ironing board
Enough storage to conceal a regular suitcase - I don't want to have to look at my luggage, & have it cluttering up the room
Turn down service

user1471550643 · 16/09/2022 18:26

Aircon which doesn’t leave a noisy fan running when you switch off.
cover the random different coloured flashing lights on WiFi, smoke alarm etc, so it doesn’t look like a disco when you turn the lights out.
As previous posters have said, decent lighting and a safe lock on connecting doors and the main door.
decent size bath towels and somewhere to hang them not near the toilet
more than 2 teabags and milk sachets at a time 😂

Surtsey · 16/09/2022 18:31

Enough milk cartons to actually go with the number of coffee sachets and tea bags that you've provided.

More hangers.

Beansycheese · 16/09/2022 18:37

I second (third) tea making facilities. We stayed at a hotel once where you could get a massage in your room but had to wait half an hour and pay £15 for a cup of cold stewed tea to be delivered to your room.

Caspianberg · 16/09/2022 18:47

Mini kitchenette. I want to make a tea when I want at a decent height, not on a low down small child burn height table. Also to make baby formula, heat m and s ready meal if I’m too knackered to go out late to eat.

If hotel ‘suite’ with separate living room, and actual door between so I don’t have to go to bed in dark at 8/9pm when toddler does.

Kindofcrunchy · 16/09/2022 18:50

DH suggested having a slide from the room straight down to the bar. I fear he's not taking this seriously.

megletthesecond · 16/09/2022 18:51

Windows that open.

MinnyMous · 16/09/2022 19:03

Plugs and usb ports by the bed
Bedside lamp you can angle for reading, not one that casts the light on the bedside table.
Decent pillows.
Spare blankets in cupboard
More hooks
Windows that open
TV that works and isn't up near the ceiling.
Bath/showers with hand holds. Older people may not want an accessible room but they would still like to feel safe when washing.

Decent heating. I once stayed somewhere that had no heating in winter as it had broken down, it was grim.
More than two tea bags and a mini fridge so you can make your own drinks.

emmathedilemma · 16/09/2022 19:09

Windows that open more than half an inch
black out curtains
non-feathery bedding 🤧
hooks in the bathroom for towels / clothing
a shelf or space in the bathroom to put toiletries and wash bag
a decent hair dryer (NOT one that you have to hold the button down to get it to work)
a kettle that boils in under 20min
proper sized mugs

PestoPasghetti · 16/09/2022 19:13

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 16/09/2022 16:09

Oh decent size towels!!

yes I am a larger human but frankly the towel I’ve just been given, I’m not sure would fit anyone over the ages of 11 months

Yes!!

Also aircon, it's so freaking HOT in hotels!
NO throws or cushions, gruesome bacteria traps
Sound proofing
A vending machine, stocking Evian water, on every floor
A comfortable mattress.

To be fair Premier Inn are pretty damn good! I only asked for my money back once in many many years of using them.

WeAreTheHeroes · 16/09/2022 19:14

Somewhere you can sit and use a decent hairdryer to dry your hair whilst being able to see what you are doing in a mirror.

Task lighting in the bedroom so you can put make up on there instead of hogging the bathroom, which is often full of condensation after you've had a shower.

No prison hangers.

Iron and ironing board that aren't taking up all the full length hanging space in the wardrobe.

Caspianberg · 16/09/2022 19:17

Oh and lots of hooks. If I’m only staying one night, I don’t want or need to unpack properly. But I still want to hang up coat/ scarf/ handbag/ thick cardigan just so they aren’t in the way. Often there’s only two hooks so if your travelling as a couple it’s like hook jenga.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 16/09/2022 19:50

Quiet aircon/ and the ability to meaningful change the temp. up or down. Extra pillows, the ability to get some form of food even a f'ing pot noodle if you arrive after the restaurant is closed

HipsterCoffeeShop · 16/09/2022 20:09

Decent hangers not those annoying headless ones
Hooks on the door for coats and bags
Rails in the bathroom for wet towels that actually have enough room for the number of people staying so you don't have to hang them carefully to avoid overlapping
Decent sized cups and glasses - not thimbles
A sink that you can fill the kettle from
Windows that open
Blackout blinds
No annoying lights or flashing from the fire alarm system/WiFi/Aircon/Tv
At least two pillows per person
Somewhere to put your suitcase so it's hidden from view
A little fridge that I can put bottles of water in - water from the bathroom is never cold enough to drink
A safe that I don't have to pay for
Plug sockets/usb ports by the bed

orangeisthenewpuce · 16/09/2022 20:09

Windows that open wide
Air conditioning
Sockets beside the bed
Full length mirror with sockets beside them
Well lit mirror to do make up and additional magnifying mirror
Massive beds
Massive TVs (my eyesight is v bad)
Big mugs and decent coffee
Lots of hangers
Powerful hairdryers that can be used without having to keep your finger on the on switch
Massive towels
