I predict a massive backlash to all this mourning once the funeral is over

So far the media is all about how we are grieving as a nation and no other voices are tolerated.

Its a pretence that will come back with a vengeance.

The country hasn't been in such a bad way for a long long time and millions have been spent on mourning someone many of us had no interest in.

Its wearing thin and we aren't at Monday yet....

It's shocking that some posts containing personal insults are still standing TBH, specially one at 6.49 today

@Dogtooth

Sadly I wholeheartedly agree with:-

Plus the country is on a downward path with incompetent right wing zealots in charge. Basics like health and food and clean water aren't guaranteed. It's not going to be a smooth ride

For me it beggars belief that Truss won't increase a windfall tax for the BP and Shell companies who are literally making billions of pounds in profits every quarter. They are presently putting in less than 5 per cent back into renewables.

And her other brainstorm is to use fracking and North Sea oil/gas.

Yes folks - it will be a shit show of stupendous proportions. And I don't say this to my teenage kids, as it is too depressing.

I know. The lack of competence, forward thinking and just imagination in the current government is unbelievable. Is this lot genuinely the best we can do? It's come to something when wall to wall coverage of a funeral is more uplifting than news (as a previous PP has implied).

onlythreenow · 16/09/2022 09:41

Watch it on TV it doesn't look like they change every 20 minutes to me, I only watched it because I wanted to see if I knew any of the MUPPETS spending hours queuing up and spent 30 seconds walking past the coffin.

Hmm, talking about MUPPETS - I can see only one here (hint, not the people queuing up).

Absolutely howling at the fact that HIGNFY wipes the floor with anyone.

The programme that helped Boris Johnson’s PR?

What are the viewing figures for it now? It doesn’t have the influence or attention it might have once had.

Yep
Probably the same as The Guardian

I’m surprised it’s still going, I did engage with both back in the day but they’ve lost the positions they once had

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 16/09/2022 09:43

@apintortwo Yet there you go highlighting it.

NashvilleQueen · 16/09/2022 09:45

*Re the queens power : the guardian had been fighting for years to get access to information to prove that the queen , who got first sight of new laws, used that privilege hundreds of times to make sure she was given special exclusion from any law she didn't like .
Not only do the royals use power , they used it secretly and purely for their own benefit

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/feb/08/royals-vetted-more-than-1000-laws-via-queens-consent*

Did you read this article? It has one concrete example of where she intervened in the 1970s and so that her private wealth wasn't public knowledge. The use of 'screened' and 'vetted' suggests (erroneously) that she personally changed them when in fact they don't have the evidence to support. The fact that proposed legislation goes before the monarch is not new. That's why she always announced the governments legislative agenda at the state opening of parliament.

You do realise there’s a difference between educated predictions and wishful thinking?

Has all this been very triggering in that you realise your anti monarchist sentiments are actually in a small minority, when like most people such as yourself spend most of your life in an echo chamber and therefore somehow manage to convince yourself that your views reflect the majority?

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 09:51

Is this issue new to you ?
The queen got herself exempt from many many laws that she didn't t like the look of

I am very proud to have witnessed some of the 70 year reign of Elizabeth II.

However it's pretty hard to watch the money that is flowing over this funeral, and having the RF petty squables played out so publicly.

And as a business owner, the fact that the Government have made yet another bank holiday out of this when we've had one extra already this year is making my teeth itch with resentment, frankly.

CuntAmongstThePigeons · 16/09/2022 09:53

I'm not sure you can equate the number of people going with them being royalists, showing their respect etc.

Everyone I know that's going, including myself is going as a day out, festival vibe. Because it will be interesting, mad Atmosphere etc, absolutely nothing to do with paying respects or being royalists.

I'm an abolitionist as is everyone else I know going.

lookthisway · 16/09/2022 09:55

I think there will be a backlash when the pain of the winter utility bills start kicking in. They may be capped but it's still a lot more than any of us are used to paying and other prices are still going up. Households are really going to suffer. Even those who can 'afford' it aren't going to find it easy. And the answer to these problems from our Government is to announce quietly during the mourning period that bankers' bonuses are no longer going to be capped! I had to laugh otherwise.......

Mfsf · 16/09/2022 09:57

I knew someone would use WWII the moment I pressed enter :-) . I guess it’s the forever excuse for those who refuse to see the state we are in ! It’s time people stop comparing life to the time of WWII ! We are supposed to be a first world country

Dillydaffy · 16/09/2022 09:57

Dogtooth · 16/09/2022 06:58

I kind of agree. The Queen was a living link to our imperial past and while she was around we could pretend we were still as powerful and relevant. Her being gone adds to the almighty post-imperial hangover (Brexit is also part). We don't want to face up to our smallness.

Charles won't be as popular or as revered in the press, ditto William. I'm sure the papers have been sitting on all kinds of stories about them that will start to come out now.

Plus the country is on a downward path with incompetent right wing zealots in charge. Basics like health and food and clean water aren't guaranteed. It's not going to be a smooth ride.

This.
They are all sitting on the Prince Wiliam affair story which led to the fall out with his brother. Reported widely in US, but here not a whisper as there were enormous injunctions. The Daily Mail did a story about Chomondeley losing his job and turned off the comments. Daily Mail never turn off comments! It must have been because there were so many comments about the affair.

I don’t think there will be any backlash against the royals, people love a bit of pomp and ceremony.

I don’t think Liz Truss will have an easy ride, deregulating bankers bonuses while most of us face a massive reduction in standard of living is going to be a difficult sell I think.

Yes the bankers bonuses doesn't look good. God help her with her fracking if we do get tremors somewhere as it will all be laid at her door. Having said that I'm not sure many communities will go along with it but I suppose we have to wait and see.

Viviennemary · 16/09/2022 10:01

Its going on far far too long. Supermarkets shut all day on Monday is not on.

RewildingAmbridge · 16/09/2022 10:03

I don't think you know what backlash means

vera99 · 16/09/2022 10:07

My partner and I are going on our 3rd trip today to see the flowers as we are retired. Got to see Charles and Camilla as they entered the Place on day 1 - went to see 'The Queue' a couple of days ago and today it's "The Flowers". It's nice weather and is worth it to walk around and watch the carnival. It's like a modern-day Ace in the Hole...

So you think may of the people attending the events are going to abolishionist?

Just out enjoying the atmosphere? Created by the thing they want abolishing?

Even though you know adding to the numbers, increases the Pro RF optics?

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 16/09/2022 10:09

"no other voices are tolerated."

Utter nonsense. People are allowed to voice opinions. What isn't allowed is abuse, shouting disgusting things at a memorial, holding up plaquards and upsetting a grieving family etc.

For example, the moron shouting at Andrew while he was in Edinburgh for his mother. If someone had started shouting abuse at one anyone at their mother's funeral/memorial or such event, I would expect the police to be involved.

You really need to get a life and do something constructive with your time.

Perhaps once the hysteria dies down in a few weeks time, some people will suddenly remember they hate Charles.

She lived an absolutely blessed, happy life and lived to be 96 years old! Why anyone is acting like this is a great tragedy is beyond me

Exactly. It was 9 year old Olivia Pratt-Korbel's funeral yesterday. THAT was a tragedy.

Nobody is acting like it's a tragedy. People are sad such an amazing lady has dies. Aren't people allowed to be sad at the passing of someone everyone feels they know? The little girls funeral and death was a sad tragedy. It's not a competition

Mfsf · 16/09/2022 10:11

I assume you are going to use teh WWII excuse forever ? Despite knowing to well the U.K. has never been so bad and n modern times ? So until when should we go back to compare ? Stone Age ? The Saxons? The queen inquisition ? Look around !! Go places , go other countries , check their supermarkets , checks their health system , checks their schools ! And then come back to me to tell em about museums ! Some of you sem to love history . Did you slip the barbarities the U.K. did all over the world ? The same monarchy you support so much ? Or are your history books for WWII only ?

Do people actually hate Charles?

Even my mother who thought the sunshine out of Diana’s arse, softened to Charles over the years.

She didn’t even mind Camilla.

The only people who I have ever come across, who hate Charles, are the people who think Diana hated the Queen and Prince Phillip, who then had her murdered or who have watched the Crown thinking it was a documentary. And they are often not even British.
