I predict a massive backlash to all this mourning once the funeral is over

So far the media is all about how we are grieving as a nation and no other voices are tolerated.

Its a pretence that will come back with a vengeance.

The country hasn't been in such a bad way for a long long time and millions have been spent on mourning someone many of us had no interest in.

Its wearing thin and we aren't at Monday yet....

This is going to be bigger than the Olympics in terms of numbers, apparently

Andante57 · 16/09/2022 12:05

It's not really about turning out. I'm literally just going about my day as usual, with the added bonus of watching this total circus.

cuntamongthepigeons so you’re going to have a good sneer. Enjoy!

Well quite Vera, apparently I have to sit inside my house now in case I am accidentally seen to be supporting this utter shit show.

No would said you shouldn’t go.

But it’s unusual for someone to go to an event that’s being organised for something they want abolished.

I don’t think it’s unusual for people to find that a bit strange but no one said you shouldn’t go.

This is going to be bigger than the Olympics in terms of numbers, apparently

51.9 million of the UK population watched some of the olympics. The adult population of the UK is about 60 million.
Or is the estimate worldwide? Because with all Britains ex colonies that is probably true.

I meant London numbers, bigger than the Olympics

London will be ‘full’ which is a recognised term for people involved

Heard an interesting piece on it the other day

Do you mean people living in London watching it on TV?
Or people watching the procession etc in person versus buying tickets for an Olympic stadium?
If the latter of course there would be more people. The olympics were ticketed and

JamSandle · 16/09/2022 12:22

This seems to happen whatever the subject though...Covid, Brexit. We don't tend to get balanced news just blanket coverage. It's nothing new.

MarshaBradyo · 16/09/2022 12:23

No idea about TV numbers

People turning up - London at capacity

Delectable · 16/09/2022 12:34

Prescottdanni123 · 16/09/2022 04:09

@Delectable

Yep, the 96 year old woman who was standing up unaided, greeting our new priminister 2 days before her death didn't work hard for her country at all. 🙄

Countless numbers of people great each other everyday. How is greeting one person work? It could've been done via phone or zoom if she didn't want to, she could have sat if she wanted or she could have had Charles do it. That isn't work by any stretch.

DownNative · 16/09/2022 12:40

It goes without saying I won't be laying flowers, queueing or any of the other ridiculous things going on.

Then, you have obviously NOT joined in, @CuntAmongstThePigeons. You earlier stated you might as well join in, but not state you're just going about your business. The two are not the same things.

Which is it - going about your business as usual or "might as well join in"?

66 million people live in the UK.

Cheap comment, how very ignorant you must be 🤔.

How's does her comment indicate she's very ignorant? Which difficult jobs do you know that's usually done till 96 or death? Bin collector? Surgeon? Pilot? Judge? PM?

LondonWolf · 16/09/2022 12:49

This is why you can't take the moaners seriously, they cannot even bring themselves to acknowledge the admirable, only sneer at and diminish it. So tiresome. If this was a 96 year old woman doing the same within a culture you supported, you'd be falling over yourself to say how great she was.

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 12:53

That's not true . Most people haven't commented much on the queen at all- apart from questioning her judgment on certain issues ( public support of Andrew)

But they do say , after her that's enough. But of course the whole rigmarole must be churned into action lest anyone can ask questions

upinaballoon · 16/09/2022 13:00

There are flower growers in GB who will be very pleased with all these bunches being bought. It's an ill wind........

vera99 · 16/09/2022 10:44

The Queue is now full up so apparently, there is a queue that is forming in the hope of joining The Queue when and if it re-opens. We are off to see this queue and The Queue hopefully it won't need riot police! When is a queue not a queue then that is the queusestion ? James O' Brien is saying that the park may well be closed to stop the crowd coming to watch the queue for The Queue so we may well be outside in some sort of curious genteel mob.

Pure Monty Python😆

I thought we were supposed to be in an economic downturn? If I was concerned about whether I might have to choose between feeding my family or heating my home, a trip to London and the purchase of a bunch of flowers that are going to lie rotting in a massive pile would be pretty low on my list of priorities. Still, millions can clearly afford to do it.

apintortwo · 16/09/2022 16:07

I think Sophie will take Meghan under her wing and gently guide her

That ship has sailed I'm afraid. It would be very foolish of the RF to take any steps that may upset the British public. They need to tread carefully

VladmirsPoutine · 16/09/2022 17:02

I hope not, doing so would really dampen Meghan's shine.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/09/2022 17:09

Seems to me that some people would positively enjoy a backlash, rioting in the streets, etc. to reinforce/help to justify their own aggressively republican opinions.

It's kinda obvious what the rest of the world thinks of UK with GBP at 37 year low...I don't think BBC noticed though

This mourning period is a great distraction from the reality of whats happening in this country....i think after we wake up from the collective amnesia the shit will hit the fan with us facing the cost of living crises on top of us. And the cost of all the mourning might actually be admitted to one day, although that wont be for a while.
