Anyone else feel Kate was born to be a royal?

Watching the Queen's coverage all week & Kate looks like she was born for the role. (Also please don't turn this into a Meghan bashing thread, Meghan is equally beautiful & elegant but has chosen to be a non working royal which is why this thread is about Kate).
Even looking back at old school photos she looked so poised & elegant. She had an idyllic childhood, supportive parents & is doing a wonderful job in her new role.

White & quiet?

Quite

Surtsey · 15/09/2022 14:33

As this thread admirably demonstrates, whatever she does and however she behaves, someone will find fault with her.

Jeez.

There's a real trend now to be dubbed "boring" if you're not loud, brash and extrovert. There are plenty of indications that Catherine isn't a pushover. Being quiet and low-drama doesn't mean that she's a doormat.

I think she very quietly just gets on with things. And I don't think people realise half of what she does. She got in the water with the regatta team a few weeks ago, she's played cricket and raced William on the athletics track. She's happy to get her hands dirty and involved, and she's passionate about children and early years.

She seems to have oodles of patience and certainly appears to be kind and thoughtful - all qualities which make her perfect for William, and ideally suited to royal life. She's absolutely benefited from experience and coaching but she had the right temperament in the first place.

I think she's lovely - I think if it were all just an act, a chink in her armour would have appeared by now.

This, this, this.

The trend is definitely now that you have to be brash, loud and 'me, me, me'. That's (fortunately) not Kate and nor was it the Queen, and whereas people on here cricise Kate for it, it has been exactly the same qualities the Queen has been receiving an unprecedented level of praise for (here and abroad).

I bet Kate is a great mum. I'd rather have a kind, calm and invested mum like Kate than almost any other of the royals. Her work about early years and children/parent education does seem to have taken off too.

And William seems genuinely lovely too. Wishing them the best of luck!

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 15/09/2022 14:35

She seems like a nice lady. But am I alone in finding all this sudden obsequiousness towards the royal family a bit disturbing? 😬

On a lighter note, there looked to be some fabulous women involved in yesterday's flawless procession. I think the three mounted police officers at the very front were all women as was the officer in charge of the gun carriage. The Queen would have been proud. I'd like to think she requested for there to be lots of female horse women. But that's a reach, perhaps.

justasking111 · 15/09/2022 14:35

I recall DS friend being pursued by a young lady whose father was a shade below the royals as in a Duke. When his friends teased him as to why he didn't succumb. His reply was too high maintenance.

It's not easy either way for the young

BadNomad · 15/09/2022 14:35

I remember when she was just Waity Katie, working one day a week in a token job because the press lambasted her for being lazy.

passport123 · 15/09/2022 14:36

Samcro · 15/09/2022 11:29

the trouble with saying that is that it makes it sound like she set out to marry a prince.
she wasn't born royal.

she did everything she could to grab William at St Andrews - for some reason she really wanted this job!

IcedPurple · 15/09/2022 14:36

LondonWolf · 15/09/2022 13:11

Agreed. She looks good and doesn't express many opinions. That's all that's needed really.

Perhaps her opinion she is happy to have been able to combine her love of her husband and his family with supporting The Monarchy. Perhaps her opinions are that she feels lucky to have the platform she does, meet the people she does and be able to be involved with and be patron of organisations which she is interested in.

No one knows what her opinions are because that is the nature of being royalty but of course she must have some. What people who say she has no opinions mean, is she isn't expressing any they might agree with or find interesting or worthwhile.

You know what they say about opinions. They're like a certain part of the anatomy. We all have them.

I'm sure Kate does too, but there's no need for us to hear about them. I find it rather refreshing to have a public figure who doesn't think that just because they're famous, their opinions are any more valid than yours or mine. Opinions, some informed, some not, are everywhere. Nice to get a break.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2022 14:16

I think she is great, I don't want to hear about their personalities and opinions. I want them to rock up,do their job and smile and she does this beautifully. I also like the fact she doesn't make a huge thing about fashion , she has a working uniform and it's boring but then we shouldn't really be focusing on what she wears like we did with Diana. There's absolutely no chance she'll put a foot wrong or write a tell all book or go on Oprah either- not a dig, that's just a fact.

Not being an arse here but what’s the point of her then?

Agreed. I find it especially irritating when uninformed celebs hold court on complex issues as though they were experts with valuable input

ajandjjmum · 15/09/2022 14:38

Wouldloveanother · 15/09/2022 13:41

This.

I’m not a royalist but objectively I can see she’s the perfect choice. Discreet, keen to learn, respect for protocol/tradition, and intelligent enough to understand how it all works.

And when people say she's bland and has no opinion, I suspect that she has strong opinions but knows when and where to air them, and when to keep quiet.

What's the point of any of them if you want to go down that route? They are patrons of charities and do the whole pomp and ceremony, what else do you want them to do?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 15/09/2022 12:34

I love Kate. She’s big on sailing and was recently in a regatta. She seems quite sporting in general, not a delicate flower at all, and I admire her for getting through three hyperemesis gravidarum pregnancies.
I also adore Zara, she’s so much Anne’s daughter, but I get the impression she doesn’t do as much official stuff because she’s busy living life, riding horses etc. It’s a trade off that we see less of her because she’s out doing interesting stuff that makes us want to see more of her, I guess, and she doesn’t have to be restrained because she’s not first in line and never will be.
Marriage engineering has been rife for centuries. Look how well it went for Charles and Diana.

We don't see much of Zara because she isn't a working royal or an HRH. She doesn't undertake official engagements or receive money from the civil list.

She's busy with her career and family and not doing official stuff because she isn't part of the official stuff and couldn't be if she wanted to be.

Dragonsmother · 15/09/2022 14:45

Kate was born into money. She has had opportunities that many of us will ever have.
She has had years of coaching to get her to where she is.

I would hate to see the pressure she is under and her loss of identity. It’s almost like they built a mould and she has had to fill it.

ScruffMuffin · 15/09/2022 14:45

Catherine would look gorgeous in a bin bag and cat slippers with a toilet seat around her neck. Being tall, slim, self-assured and having all that lovely swishy hair help.

To wear pretty frocks and be pleasing to the eye of the public.

susan12345678 · 15/09/2022 14:47

I have had one or two comments deleted - for pointing out that Meghan fans dislike Kate because Kate's discretion and faultless behaviour basically makes Meghan look bad. This is true.

Far more ''offensive" things have been written about Kate in this thread alone and those posts still stand.

Why? Because no-one has bothered to report them. Certain posters are twitchy about any criticism of their idols and report posts at the slightest provocation to censor all dissent. I'd prefer the thread to remain, so people can make up their own minds.

Aspiringmatriarch · 15/09/2022 14:49

Not being an arse here but what’s the point of her then?

Ceremonial, symbolic, constitutional. Given that it's the system we have, Kate is about right as she avoids controversy and is consistent and pleasant.

Applesonthelawn · 15/09/2022 14:49

She has huge reserves of self-discipline and dedication to the role. She also looks the part - tall, athletic, wears clothes well, very pretty. I think he has married exceptionally well and they are a lovely family. She seems nice too although you never know, it wouldn't surprise me if it was mostly driven by self-discipline and ambition, but I love her for that anyway, I see nothing wrong in that. We are lucky to have her.

antelopevalley · 15/09/2022 14:49

No one here knows what Kate is like in real life. She may be opinionated, loud and pushy. Or quiet, calm and introverted.

But the requirement for Royal wives is to be bland, good-looking, and uncontroversial. You must never outshine the men and the public's opinion of you should be limited to nice dress, nice smile and behaves well in public. Extra points for being friendly and does not put on airs and graces.

So yes she does do that well.
Personally I would be disappointed if this was the limits of my daughters aspirations, but I am not a Royalist.

NippyWoowoo · 15/09/2022 14:47

To wear pretty frocks and be pleasing to the eye of the public.

This. And to be photographed at various charity and sporting events.
Her most important job though is to produce a heir and a spare, and she has already done that.
