Such responsibility, and they all looked so young.

Time Out interview with Sgt Martin in 2017 suggests to join the Queens protection it was lowered to 5ft 10”.

www.timeout.com/london/blog/things-you-only-know-if-youre-a-grenadier-guardsman-040517#:~:text='The%20height%20requirement%20has%20been,because%20they%20were%20so%20tall.

‘The height requirement has been brought down to 5' 10", but traditionally, if you were in the Queen’s Company within the Grenadier Guards, you had to be 6' 2" or over. They were known as “the models” because they were so tall. I’m 5' 10" myself, so there was a time when I wouldn’t have made it.’

That's not the same as needing to be 5-10 to join the grens, that's just them choosing to send their tallest soldiers all to the same company. Makes it much easier and smarter to do ceremonial half companies if the difference between the tallest and the shortest is small.

the only height restrictions in the army are occupational- minimum height is 4-10, drivers need to be 5-2. You can be too tall to be a pilot or to serve in the armoured corps but that's to do with vehicle design.

I never actually said you needed to be 5ft 10 to join the Grenadiers in general though did I? I actually said that was the:

requirements for a Grenadier serving The Queen

Not quite sure why you chose that to nit pick over on what has been thus far a very interesting thread.

All Grenadiers serve the sovereign, not just those in Queens Company. And I pick holes because I get bored of misinformation. HTH.

Misinformation?
Yes or no, are the Grenadiers assigned to Guard the Queen required to be over 5ft 10"?
Because thats what Sgt Martin, an actual Grenadier, says in the interview I posted above, and thats what I said in my original post.
HTH also.

Article from The Express:

The Grenadier Guards, the so-called Queen's Company, has reduced its height requirement from 6ft 2ins to 5ft 10ins.

They should all be very proud of themselves, and their families. Yesterday was spectcular with all the Queen's guards etc. I said to my daughter, we do this the best in the world. All the ceremony. amazing but sad part of history

@TheseusScamander please. I'm telling you how it is. The queens company is a small part of the grenadier guards. You can google it as much as you like but I am sitting here, in my uniform, living Army policy. You clearly don't know what the foot guards do, what a company is, who "guards" the queen, how to cut through press speak, or what indirect sex discrimination is so just stop it.

It doesn't matter how much you google, to join the grenadier guards, you need to be 4ft 10 or over. Full. Stop.

Who they choose to put in the queens company (probably about 10% of the Grenadier guards in total) is up to them but it's not mandatory, it's not policy, it's to make the company look smarter when standing in certain formations.

Thank goodness he didn't throw in a "shake it all about" as well. It could have gone down as the most famous Hokey Cokey in British history.

🤣🤣🤣

The turn around bit would have been good, they could have sorta spiraled forward into Westminster Hall!
