anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

@SpinCityBlues He was in the public queue. Someone tweeted a picture of him a few hours ago and the press picked up on it. Apparently he joined the queue at 2am.

OneFrenchEgg · 16/09/2022 15:22

@Plexie that's what I thought - so how will new queue become The Queue if there's a gap between them

SpinCityBlues · 16/09/2022 15:22

Good for Becks, in The People's Queue.

SpinCityBlues · 16/09/2022 15:25

Apologies you covered David Beckham joining the queue upthread. I lost my place when I went to sleep.

LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana · 16/09/2022 15:30

Good for Beckham. Hope the likes of Scofield etc are thoroughly embarrassed.

I'm surprised at the number of people making the sign of the cross or genuflecting. I didn't realise that there were that many Catholics.

Why would those things be limited to Catholics? Confused

theDudesmummy · 16/09/2022 15:37

I just went back in the feed to see Beckham. Good on him for standing in The Queue.

theDudesmummy · 16/09/2022 15:39

Well he did get rewarded by being at the front for the changing of the guards! I imagine he is pondering on times he met the queen in life...

vera99 · 16/09/2022 15:51

I was going to see the queue for the queue but have opted for flowers in Green Park instead. Ian Payne of LBC lasted 4 hours in the queue for the queue and gave up as he would have had a 14 hour queue ahead of him.

theDudesmummy · 16/09/2022 15:51

On a different note, I see The Queue has been picked up as a news item by many international news outlets, including the big American ones. This will mean that some people learn a new word. When I was in staying America a number of years ago I used the word queue while standing in one, and no-one knew what I meant (they call it "standing on line"). I explained the word and how it was spelled and several people sincerely thought I had just made it up! (This was in the deep Midwest and quite a few years ago though...).

Thruandthru1 · 16/09/2022 16:03

Anyone 'on the ground' nearby have any updates on 'the queue'?

Piccalino3 · 16/09/2022 16:10

I'm just finishing work and was planning to head over to the queue. Anyone there and know if it would be worth it or is it hopeless? DD's birthday tomorrow so can't come in then. Best I could hope for is coming in late Sat night but suspect it will be carnage from here on in.

Hmmph · 16/09/2022 16:15

Why is DAFM QueueTube still saying it's closed? It's been nearly 6.5 hours since they closed it. I know they let some people in since then and rumours that it is open, but why is the feed not updated? Also, to take their feed at face value, 6 hours ago the queue was supposedly 10 hours long, so would only be 4 by now and surely room for more?

Plexie · 16/09/2022 16:15

DCMS Queue Tracker on YouTube is still saying the queue is at capacity and entry is paused.

nachoavocado · 16/09/2022 16:28

There is aparantly a queue for the holding pen for the queue. Its unstoppable

Janesdufflecoat · 16/09/2022 16:30

FFS! Is no where safe! Darker twist to The Queue!

Piccalino3 · 16/09/2022 16:30

Does anyone know where the holding pen for the queue is? I might head over to Bermondsey to check it out

Libre55 · 16/09/2022 16:31

When the queue opens again it will not be in Southwark park so no good heading there.

No but he was arrested when he climbed out!

I'm in a bad place health wise right now and you're right it is strangely addictive viewing. I personally like that the queue is full of so many different people, they all have their own story. They are wearing different clothes etc. It makes me feel part of the country to be able to watch even though I cannot be there

Same here, @nachoavocado

I have hours and days kind of 'bedbound', with rotten insomnia and sleep patterns, and having this on in the middle of the night has been weirdly like 'being there'. Like seeing a man in the queue and thinking, oooh he looks just like David Beckham ... Chatting to MNers on the thread who are in the queue (and about why they have gone) or who are on the way home. It's all fascinating and unique.

The coverage next to the photo will be

David Beckam leads the mourners at Westminster Abbey ...

The word 'leads' is compulsory, like 'complete shambles' is compulsory of any moderately well-run event in the UK.

I suppose it is a bit 'Beckham's redemption' though, for twenty minutes.

IHateWasps · 16/09/2022 17:05

No but he was arrested when he climbed out!

That's disappointing.

theDudesmummy · 16/09/2022 17:09

They have reopened The Queue with the information that the wait time is 24 hours. This is getting very hardcore indeed.

Hmmph · 16/09/2022 17:14

Piccalino3 · 16/09/2022 16:30

This makes me kind of cross. The queue is either open or its not. Having the holding pen is still a queue.

By putting up a message saying the queue is closed and don't come and then letting people queue is rewarding those who break the rules. I don't mean those who arrived in the first couple of hours who were already in London, but now 7 hours have passed. Open the queue and make it much longer or shut it properly. I hate this half way thing which rewards the cheeky and punishes those who do as they are told.

Sorry for the rant (I have another one in my head about the sheet number of people who have been allowed special passes...). I just really want to go myself so finding it all very unfair ATM.
