So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

I don't remember the exhibition Grin, just the queuing outside.

FourChimneys · 15/09/2022 07:30

I still have the souvenir book my Dad bought me.

I think that’s what the children today will remember. Having to queue for hours and maybe all night.😂

I went to the Tutankhamen exhibition when I was a child. I remember being bored in the queue (4 hours) but also remember lots of shiny gold things.

I wonder what children will remember from this.

The good thing is that these days you can just pull up the YouTube coverage and say ‘DC this is what I took you to’ if they dare to not recall it. 😁

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 15/09/2022 07:41

I certainly would not, it's bloody ridiculous. She was 96, and could not have cared one whit if people were queuing for hours. This obsequious behaviour towards the Royals is crazy, and its time to stop.

theDudesmummy · 15/09/2022 07:44

People wanting to take part in elaborate cultural rituals is not "crazy", it is normal human behaviour.

Even the queuing?

Maybe some wouldn’t have gone had they known? I suppose it’s common knowledge now, and some may have left the queue on finding out last night.

I certainly would not be happy being there streamed live to the whole world.

Probably many would have second thoughts had they known before travelling.

I still wonder if people that rang in sick to work might have found themselves in trouble.
I have no idea why they have to have such close ups.

TeenDivided · 15/09/2022 07:53

The queuing is part of the event. It builds community, common purpose.

MarshaBradyo · 15/09/2022 07:56

Listening to people who are visiting it sounds good to me. I understand why people feel moved.

Re pp I don’t think it needs to stop just let people be, if it’s what they want to do.

theDudesmummy · 15/09/2022 07:56

Especially the queuing.

That’s a nice thought but I think for most it’s just a queue.

theDudesmummy · 15/09/2022 07:58

It is the furthest thing possible from "just a queue".

ApolloandDaphne · 15/09/2022 08:00

I imagine going there and queuing is more in line with the notion of a pilgrimage rather than just waiting in line. The journey is part of the whole experience.

I agree.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 08:12

That queue is going to be filtering out the naysayers, the mehs, the cbas, chancers, the perfomative.

If you queue you really want to be there. It's beautifully simple.

Agree

It looks remarkably like a queue for something that's supposedly "the furthest thing possible from a queue" I can imagine a lot of things that are much less queue like than a giant line of people waiting to very briefly walk past the Queen's coffin.

In fact there's not really much to it besides a queue. At least in theme parks or lines for concerts, you have a different experience once you've reached the end of the queue, you move out of the queue and onto a ride or into the stadium/festival grounds. Here the queue itself seems to be the raison d'être.

That's not what people who have actually been there are saying.

I'm not sure that's true. The royal family are very much like marmite , you either love or hate them

I think if she seen how many people have actually took time to see her , she could help but feel loved . Also I think her family will find comfort in it.

It shows that although a lot of people would happily abolish the royal family clearly many people still support them

Anyone have a idea of the numbers so far who have visiting

I'm assuming it will go into millions surely between London and Edinburgh.?

What is your guess.?

cakeorwine · 15/09/2022 08:19

They seem to separate into bowers and non bowers.

One side is just walking past, The other side is bowing or curtseying

FourChimneys · 15/09/2022 08:20

I think the Queen did want it
She planned her funeral and everything surrounding it in detail. She would have known people would want to do this. There were long queues for her mum too.

Not my thing at all but I think there should be the option. I'm very unsure about the close ups of people's private moments though.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 08:20

@IHateWasps. Maybe you have been.

User642986540 · 15/09/2022 08:22

If you really want to go I guess the queue is similar to a longed for concert, theme park ride or the Next sale, you wouldn't be in the queue if you didn't look forward to the end thing
