What is your employer doing about people who don't work Mondays?

I work in the public sector, Monday will be a day's paid leave.

So are people who don't work Mondays entitled to a different day? Would anyone have the nerve to ask?

Anyone who doesn’t work Mondays will get bank holidays pro rata anyway won’t they? For all the other bank holidays that fall on a Monday - but I don’t think it’s mandatory that any company has to give this one anyway.

KittyMcKitty · 12/09/2022 18:55

It’s a Bank Holiday due to the funeral - it’s that day so there’s nothing to ask.

I work in a school and for those who work part time if a bank holiday falls on someone’s non working day they don’t get an additional day.

BlueThursday · 12/09/2022 18:56

Ours is adding a day of leave to all
staff so if they either don’t work a Monday or are already on holiday they will receive an additional day to be taken when suitable.

Those who are required to work will also be given a day back

LosingTheWill2022 · 12/09/2022 18:57

Bank Holidays should be applied pro rata.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 12/09/2022 18:57

My work was very clear, if you don't work Mondays you will not be paid for the day or entitled to another day off.

No it's not mandatory, but PT staff are entitled to the same leave as everyone else and, on this occasion, anyone who normally works, say, Mon-Weds will get the full day (ie not the pro rata 60%)

its a day of for the funeral. They will always be off work if they don’t work Monday’s.

Are you sure? This is a school actually and for the extra day we were granted for the Jubilee, staff not scheduled to work that day were given an extra day another time.

I don't work on Mondays. Also public sector. I will be asking for another day off in lieu. Whether I will get it or not, I don't know yet. But if I don't ask, then I definitely won't get, will I?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/09/2022 18:59

Ours were told if Monday was their non working day, that they could arrange with their line manager to take the day off as close to the Monday as possible.

Yoyooo · 12/09/2022 18:59

My work are giving a extra day AL to be used in October only

Summersummersun · 12/09/2022 18:59

I work in the public sector and Monday is my non working day. You are entitled to your bank holidays pro rata, so you should have a method of earning this back already - what do you do on all the other monday bank holidays? I credit myself an agreed amount of flexi time. I had to actively get this guidance from HR mind you, they weren’t forthcoming at all,

primeoflife · 12/09/2022 19:00

@KittyMcKitty that doesn't work in schools, you only get the bank holiday if it falls on a day you work

I'm a teacher in a school too. Same happened for the Jubilee. I was allowed a different day off, but I ended up changing schools before I could take it, so lost out 🤦

RunWalkSwim99 · 12/09/2022 19:01

Good point I’d not thought about I was just thinking ..oh bugger yet again the only 6hrs a week I get free of kids l have them again …as Monday is my non-work day and they didn’t go back to school on Monday as it was an inset day. Be interesting to see I actually get extra 7.5hrs leave or it’s prorata

Antarcticant · 12/09/2022 19:02

Same as other bank holidays - this one has been added onto people's total leave hours for the year (pro-rata if applicable). So people who don't work Mondays will be able to take the hours as holiday at some other time.

In schools, all the bank holidays (except one, the early May Bank holiday) fall in school holidays already. So we already get them off and paid. We only lose out on the one in May as far as my previous payroll department explained to me!

ZenNudist · 12/09/2022 19:05

It could go either way with my work. I'm expecting them to say its for the funeral and I can jog on, but hopefully they might give me 80% of a day extra bank holiday.

burnoutbabe · 12/09/2022 19:11

In theory i should get 1/5 of a day added to my holiday allowance as I just work 1 day a week.

MadeWithCare · 12/09/2022 19:12

Ah, now this is interesting, as it happens the email from our HR advisors has just dropped.

FT staff get 1 day 19th, as you'd expect.

PT staff not scheduled to work on 19th should get leave another time pro rata. I.e. if they work 3 days, they get 0.6 days another time

PT who are scheduled to work on 19th are also entitled to leave pro rata, but as school will be closed will have to have a whole day off. However, schools may ask them to make up the other e.g. 40% another time. Good luck with telling the staff that!

i hate the way they never include part time staff in this stuff and make us beg for info. And what about women on Mat leave?

Jules912 · 12/09/2022 19:17

I'm still waiting to see but my company can only do leave in multiples of half days, so I normally get 60% of bank holidays rounded up to nearest half day, but they did the jubilee one separately and granted a whole day.

cansu · 12/09/2022 19:20

Of course not. If you don't work Mondays surely that just means that you don't get several bank holidays.

tigger1001 · 12/09/2022 19:20

I strongly suspect that we won't get the day off. If we want it we will need to take it as a holiday out of our existing allowance, as that already includes bank holidays. There won't be additional added.

We didn't get any extra added for the jubilee.

MadeWithCare · 12/09/2022 19:21

No it doesn't, you're still entitled to the regular BHs pro rata.
