I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

The heraldry stuff and ceremonial uniforms are absolutely bonkers but I have to admit I love it all. The sight of people marching in 1640s Civil War uniforms with pikes in the City of London yesterday was a particular highlight, along with the chap in the fur hat. (I'm on BBC1 for the Scottish proclamation.)

It makes me think of the Disney Robin Hood! Oodallaly Oodallaly golly what a day 😊

Is that litter on the verges in Dundee?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/09/2022 14:25

Just vaguely watching this while doing other things - who is in the cars and where did the additional cars come from? the cortege left with IIRC 3 or 4 and now there are a few more.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 11/09/2022 14:25

I was told, years ago, that it was the Queen's express wish to die at Balmoral if at all possible. Hence why there were always detailed plans for that eventuality. Told to me by someone who needed to be aware of the existence of the plans (Operation Unicorn).
I'm glad it's going so well.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 11/09/2022 14:25

I wonder if PA is on MN?

Mrsjayy · 11/09/2022 14:26

It's maybe local councillors or people escorting her through the areas.

My last post meant to quote you sorry.

Dundee, innit.

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2022 14:30

There were that many at the start.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/09/2022 14:30

BBC just announced a statement from the Prince of Wales and I wondered what Charles has to say now. This is really going to take a while, isn't it?

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 14:31

I wondered what was thrown at the cats earlier!

What a lovely Tribute and journey for her so far!

I have been reading king Charles' schedule for the next few days. It's remarkable!
Absolutely jam packed including walking behind the Queens 👑 coffin and holding vigil at several points.

It's amazing how far behind the police Cars are.
Even on long helicopter shots it's hard to see them

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 14:32

Prince of Wales is now, William

Yip it's the King thing I can't get me head around.

TeenyQueen · 11/09/2022 14:34

Watching the journey briefly and I just wish people stopped filming/taking photos with their phones! Somehow it seems very undignified and disrespectful, especially when Princess Anne is in the car directly behind her mother. What are the spectators going to do with these photos/videos, post on Facebook or Instagram?

I understand it's a historic and unique occasion, but people should show some respect!

DeclineandFall · 11/09/2022 14:35

Did anyone else think they heard boo-ing when the proclamation was read out in Edinburgh; I think it was just after the National Anthem at noon.
If it did happen I'm appalled - there is a time and a place for displaying your views, but this isn't one of them.

The proclamation of a new monarch the exactly the time and place for displaying your republican views. Not everyone is a monarchist.

You're complaining about people recording it, whilst watching footage of it?

OK.

PerfectPictureFrame · 11/09/2022 14:36

I imagine if they need to stop, they'll detour to air bases or other government property. I doubt they'll be pulling into the BP services!

At least it didn't have one of those Esso stickers,
'I've got a tiger in my tank' (from the 1960's)

or even worse,
'If you can read this you are too darn close'

Or one of my personal hates, “Adventure before Dementia” (but pretty appropriate in this case)

I think there were at least 16 when they left Balmoral. The ones in the cortege have numbers on the windscreen and I saw a 16.

I keep referring to Queen Anne, which is less understandable than Robert Lacey constantly saying 'Prince ... sorry, King ... Charles ...'

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/09/2022 14:38

My uncle was a sales rep travelling the Highlands for a while. His bosses had great difficulty grasping how long it was going to take him to get from prospect to prospect

I used to temp for an oil exploration company and did the expenses for their offshore contractors. I was told by the head of HR when checking the transport costs that public transport should be taken where possible. A lot of those contractors lived in the Highlands for some reason and after having a lot of expenses chucked back at me I got into the habit of checking their transport options and putting notes on the forms. Things like 'one bus a week.' 'Nearest station is 20 miles away.' He couldn't fathom that the Highlands isn't SW London.

CaveMum · 11/09/2022 14:38

Apparently there are 45 vehicles tin the cortège when you count the outriders, police, ambulance, spare hearse, etc.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/09/2022 14:39

Yeah, Lacey is having a bit of a problem with this. As are we all.

Darbs76 · 11/09/2022 14:39

I’ve driven 5/6hrs without a break on many occasions. I’d imagine they might swap drivers once, or maybe not. It’s not that long and I’m sure adrenal will get the driver through. I mean what an honour to be chosen to drive the Queen’s body on her final journey

greenhousegal · 11/09/2022 14:40

The king was a prince for 73 years. No wonder it's a tad difficult to refer to him as king without stumbling over it.

45 ! They have everything covered.
