I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

I would have had the same thought OP! Imagine being at a roadside services and the cortege pulls in for a coffe and wee break!

LIZS · 11/09/2022 11:01

It looks like they have additional drivers, spare hearse and can swap outriders.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 11/09/2022 11:03

I did just think that myself tbh. Couldn't imagine it pulling into a service station.

Simonjt · 11/09/2022 11:03

I was wondering about fuel, I assume they will either have a vehicle carrying additional fuel, or a petrol station booked out specifically for them to fill up.

Allmarbleslost · 11/09/2022 11:04

Me and dh have just been saying the same. Six hours is a long time to go without a wee! Can't imagine them pulling into a petrol station to use the loo though.

LostThePot · 11/09/2022 11:04

We were talking about this as well. Even if they didn’t need to swap driver or use the loo, surely they’d need to refuel during a 6hr journey?

Floralnomad · 11/09/2022 11:05

I thought I’d read it was only 175 miles so should be fine for fuel , I assumed it was because they are going slowly that it’s taking so long .

Fleur405 · 11/09/2022 11:05

They are stopping at Brechin Castle for a rest break.

HappyHamsters · 11/09/2022 11:06

Maybe they stop at a military base. Anne might need the loo.

DoingJustFine · 11/09/2022 11:06

According to the "what happens when the Queen dies/London Bridge" articles I've read, the monarch's coffin would travel on the royal train down to London, or be flown. Why are they driving it?

I think they’re driving to Edinburgh and flying down from there.

She’s being driven to Edinburgh and then flown after a few days to London.

missbipolar · 11/09/2022 11:08

Because they're going to Edinburgh first. She isn't going to London yet

So members of the public and her staff can pay their respects

They’re driving to Edinburgh, after time in Edinburgh she is being flown to London.

I thought the initial journey for the coffin was from Balmoral to Holyrood House? Just driving very slowly.

LIZS · 11/09/2022 11:08

They are driving to Edinburgh and will fly from there.

GlitchStitch · 11/09/2022 11:09

Off topic slightly but the scenery is absolutely beautiful.

AdelaideRo · 11/09/2022 11:09

Anyone else spot the undertakers logo on the hearse?

I think it's on the glass so might have been tricky to remove but it seems so cheeky to be in effect advertising via the national media covering the Queen's death.

Bunnycat101 · 11/09/2022 11:10

I was wondering about the loo situation too. Princess Anne is following behind.

Because this is operation unicorn, part of operation London Bridge specifically planned if she died in Scotland.

upinaballoon · 11/09/2022 11:13

Hey, you've got this far down a thread without a wittering republican going on about the amount of petrol being used. Wow.

SpinCityBlues · 11/09/2022 11:14

I am glad that Princess Anne and the others will be catered for at Brechin Castle. Seems well planned.

I bet security's tight.

I thought that. They could have blocked it out.

Afterfire · 11/09/2022 11:16

My first thought was about the toilet breaks too. You can’t tell I’m middle aged 😆

What a lovely last journey. Very beautiful.
