If you're considering it, please go. Although very crowded today, it was a sombre but lovely atmosphere. I'm pleased I was able to see history in motion first hand.

Not really a big fan of crowded shopping centres tbh

TokyoSushi · 10/09/2022 20:09

I'm going next week, understand it will be incredibly busy but feel that I need to go.

CaramelTwirl · 10/09/2022 20:09

What did you do when you got there? Just stand about a bit?

FannyFifer · 10/09/2022 20:09

What American mall did you go to? Any bargains?

bloodyunicorns · 10/09/2022 20:10

Why are people being twats?

The Mall, the road that leads to Buckingham Palace...

Fanny you're not normally a twat, come on.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 20:23

Which tube

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 10/09/2022 20:34

St James's Park and walk across the park, or Charing Cross and across Trafalgar Square and through Admiralty Arch.

I'd genuinely like to know this too. What exactly do I do when I get there?

And wouldn't Green Park be a better tube to go to?

Wheredoestheblackfluffcomefrom · 10/09/2022 21:36

I’m going tomorrow, green park tube closed earlier, so probs going to walk from Waterloo

Thorilicious · 10/09/2022 21:40

They weren't letting anyone onto The Mall from Green Park. I came in via Embankment, and walked from there.

As you walk towards the Palace, it did get congested, but it kept moving. I was able to see the tributes and flowers left.
May not be everyone's cup of tea, but it felt important to me to be there.

Genuinely intrigued to know why ? People were outside Buckingham Palace when nobody was in residence . Is it to lay flowers or tributes ? To talk to strangers ? To look at the other tributes ? If you feel the desire to be there , please say why.

ChagSameachDoreen · 10/09/2022 21:52

I cannot fathom why you would bother.

I cannot fathom why you would bother.

Because, whatever your feelings about the monarchy, this an incredibly rare and significant occasion in British history. People want to be part of it.

Snowiscold · 10/09/2022 21:56

I’m going tomorrow

You're not that hard of thinking.

I went to Windsor Castle today, it was surprisingly cheerful, lots of families and groups genuinely paying respects and soaking up the atmosphere. The town had a lovely feel about it this evening too.

lavenderlou · 10/09/2022 21:58

I went too. Took the DC to look at the flowers as I thought it would be a nice thing fir them to remember and they are old enough to understand the significance. There is a nice tribute area in Green Park to look around. Then we were able to get to the Mall a but further down. Was trying to walk to Westminster tube but the road was closed off. We were just around Clarence house when to my surprise Camilla walked out then the King arrived in his car and they did a walkabout of the crowd! DC got a good look so it ended up being a more memorable trip than I had anticipated.

brokenfan · 10/09/2022 21:59

Green Park closed. It's a dreadful station anyway.

let's not be twats, we are living an entire history PhD in the space of a week. If you don't recognise that, you probably need to have a wee look at yourself.

mnahmnah · 10/09/2022 22:00

I wish I lived near enough to either London or Windsor to visit at the moment. Especially with DC. Something important in history that they would be part of and remember.

Thorilicious · 10/09/2022 22:01

@lavenderlou wow, I thought I'd done good to have Camilla drive past me!
For everyone asking why, I want to look back and say I was part of history. Although sad, it's a lovely atmosphere.

Green Park Station was open this evening when I was there but not running Victoria line trains.

This 👏

I'm not going, but I'm two and a half hours away on trains with multiple changes and a 2 year old. If she was older and may remember I would, but I think it would be very stressful with how busy it seems to be. We shall pay our respects from afar instead.

AlmostSummer21 · 10/09/2022 22:09

I think I'll go on Tuesday. DC on a sleep over after school so no time pressure to be back. I'm not well enough to stand in a queue for hours to do a walk past of her coffin (sadly) so my timing doesn't matter too much I don't think.

it'll be my first trip into London since pre covid so I'm a bit nervous (CEV) but hopefully in the week it won't be so crowded.

may pop to Windsor on Friday.

KindergartenKop · 10/09/2022 22:11

We went today. It was very busy but the crowds were moving iyswim. The tone wasn't sad, it just felt like people wanted to be there to say thank you.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 10/09/2022 22:15

I would love to go, but am too far away (North!). But I can completely understand the desire to go - both to be a part of a history and to pay my respects to the queen.

I do wish people would stop being twats. If you're not interested in this, fuck off to another thread, without the oh so humourous comments.
