If you're considering it, please go. Although very crowded today, it was a sombre but lovely atmosphere. I'm pleased I was able to see history in motion first hand.

@headstone I wasn't desperate to see a glance of Camilla, she just happened to drive past. I was however, (and as you call.it) 'desperate' to be a part of history, and am pleased I went.
You're pleased that you haven't, and that's absolutely fine, but there are plenty of threads with your point of view that you could be posting on, rather than making negative comments on this one

001000001, I can’t still see the connection. I’m having a conversation with you. I’m m not stuck in a crowd of thousands desperate to get a view of Queen Camila.

Maybe learn to spell before you carp?
but you’re so cool 😎

That's not necessarily the reason they're there.

You wanted to be part of this conversation.

They want to be part of the occasion.

I was at the theatre last night in Victoria and my son wanted to go to Buckingham Palace afterwards. It was an easy walk to get there but still very busy at 10:30 at night. I'm not sure about the reflective/ respectful mood though. It was lots of people chatting and jostling to take selfies. I think he was a bit upset (has ASD and quite traditional in his approach to life) so we just stood in in a corner of the path and he closed his eyes for a bit. Then we left.

I totally agree with the history in the making comment upthread. We are off to Brixton town square to hear the proclamation in a while. They'll be playing the national anthem with steel drums which seems fantastic and totally appropriate.

There's nothing sad about a very old person having a good death. This moment in time is not about that though. It's about our nations history.

We aren't far from Windsor so are heading that way shortly. My partner and eldest aren't interested but my youngest has a bit of an obsession with the queen and the princes so she's laying flowers for family who live very far away.

We won't be going to London, but I always go via Victoria, for Buckingham Palace.

This site gets dispiritatingly worse by the week; truly built on a solid bed of cunts. None of it is even witty or sharp. Just predictable sniping and bickering. If it went under, I suspect it wouldn't be missed now.

Frith2013 · 11/09/2022 12:01

Blimey, why on earth would I want to do that?

You could take other people from this thread and stand around telling passers by that you don't understand what they're doing there?
Or would that be really weird behaviour in real life?

tectonicplates · 11/09/2022 12:16

If the queues are really long, then how do you go to the loo?

Thorilicious · 11/09/2022 16:54

Either leave and lose your place, or hold it. I didn't see any nearby toilets...

We went, we saw and we chatted to lots of different people all there with the same purpose in mind. I'm glad we went.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 20:54

i might go tomorrow
i need to take flowers

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 20:55

i dont think there are any royal family around tomorrow to catch a glimpse of

FavouriteMug · 11/09/2022 21:43

I'd love to go but the lack of access to a loo would be very problematic for me 😞

Maybe that’s what I don’t understand 10010000011 how being stuck in a big crowd feels like being anything other than being stuck in a big crowd.

Same reason you felt the neeyroncome to this thread and take part...

BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO.

Maybe that’s what I don’t understand 10010000011 how being stuck in a big crowd feels like being anything other than being stuck in a big crowd.

Well, maybe you need to get in a crowd where you all have the same reason to be there. Be that to enjoy a play, a musician perform, some sort of festival, to protest about something, to be part of something bigger than you, to see other groups dotted around the globe come together, or to be part of history....

If you've never experienced it, it might be hard to understand.

I went to a Guiding event about 8 years ago, called the Big Gig. I had little interest in the acts performing, however, I went along because it meant that our unit girls could go. And, despite not enjoying the show, it was actually quite special to be in the O2 with 10,000+ other members of Girl Guiding. Made me feel like we were part of something bigger, something global. ... And that was "just" a concert put on for Girl Guiding, not a global historical event that most people might only ever witness once in a lifetime about a woman that has been a constant presence in their life and they might have a lot of affection for personally.

It would be easy not to go, and really easy to say things like "why bother" or "you're just a pleb in the crowd" especially when you don't want to even begin to pretend to understand why people might want to be there.

LadyGAgain · 12/09/2022 00:24

Hundreds of thousands. Not the best organised queue system. King Charles and his Queen Consort drove up the Mall to BP which we saw. Left flowers in the park as there was no way (information within the time we had) to make it to the palace gates. And we had been there for hours. A respectful crowd and mood. Was amazed how many buggies, bikes and dogs there were!!

I would love to go, but am too far away (North!). But I can completely understand the desire to go - both to be a part of a history and to pay my respects to the queen.

I do wish people would stop being twats. If you're not interested in this, fuck off to another thread, without the oh so humourous comments.

I agree with you. Am too far away but am paying my respects from afar.

generalh · 12/09/2022 06:35

How far away do you live from the Mall? I live I S Wales so no chance, even if I wanted to.
