Well, maybe you need to get in a crowd where you all have the same reason to be there. Be that to enjoy a play, a musician perform, some sort of festival, to protest about something, to be part of something bigger than you, to see other groups dotted around the globe come together, or to be part of history....
If you've never experienced it, it might be hard to understand.
I went to a Guiding event about 8 years ago, called the Big Gig. I had little interest in the acts performing, however, I went along because it meant that our unit girls could go. And, despite not enjoying the show, it was actually quite special to be in the O2 with 10,000+ other members of Girl Guiding. Made me feel like we were part of something bigger, something global. ... And that was "just" a concert put on for Girl Guiding, not a global historical event that most people might only ever witness once in a lifetime about a woman that has been a constant presence in their life and they might have a lot of affection for personally.
It would be easy not to go, and really easy to say things like "why bother" or "you're just a pleb in the crowd" especially when you don't want to even begin to pretend to understand why people might want to be there.
