If you're considering it, please go. Although very crowded today, it was a sombre but lovely atmosphere. I'm pleased I was able to see history in motion first hand.

The epitome of FOMO but each to their own.

How do you get from wanting to do something to FOMO?

Thorilicious · 12/09/2022 16:52

@generalh about a 45 minute overground, and then a 15 minutes tube journey. Then a 10 minute walk for me to get to The Mall

Ok. Hope it goes ok.

We went on Saturday. I'm not particularly a royalist and definitely wouldn't have travelled specifically, but had a weekend trip to London booked anyway. Since we were literally just round the corner I thought we should take a look. It's a truly historic event and I did think there was quite a special atmosphere around the area.

People repeating the hilarious 'joke' about The Mall are the same bores who do the whole Iceland country/shop gag. It's tedious and you're not remotely funny.

DrPhilYourGuts · 12/09/2022 18:11

If you've been can you advise me best route either from a tube station or general direction?

I live in London and was there on Saturday, but only as I was trying to cut through to meet a friend at Victoria. I went in at Green Park and then basically saw a large wooden green fence, got caught in a crowd then couldn't cross the Mall. I'm going into central tomorrow and would love to see the tributes, but I can't work out what the best route is or how much time to allow. I've got an appointment in the afternoon, not sure whether to go before or after.

I went from Charing Cross. Walked to The Mall. Walk on the left, St James’s Park, side as far down as possible and join the queue for the palace in St James’s Park. Then when you eventually get to the palace, you can cross over to Green Park if you want to see the memorial flowers.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 18:43

was there a long queue?

I queued for about an hour - but some of that was actually right in front of Palace because they’d closed the barriers and stopped people moving.

As an aside, the London Marathon is on October 2nd. Would it be really busy (more than usual) around central London on October 1st? (Saturday)

Desmorelda · 12/09/2022 19:57

I'd like to go but from up here in the NW it would cost at least £200 plus for a train ticket.
Maybe the train companies should for one day only offer free transport and car park owners free parking. To make a profit from this seems somewhat tasteless when it's all about the whole country coming together not just london centric as usual.
