Has me cracking up.

Who thought to put it at the side where they sign. They have all moved it. The King wiggling the pens will become a meme...
Then ThenPrince of Wales didnt have a pen 🤣🤣

I’m deliberately using The King, Charles III, and The Prince of Wales in reference to William in order to train myself quickly. It’s working and already comes much more naturally than it did a day ago. I think the National Anthem is where I’ll struggle - it’s almost impossible not to sing it the way we always have.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 15:38

As well as the Queen, of course!

I think Camilla will make an excellent consort to the King.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2022 16:17

I guess it's because he's mostly always been just Charles.

i listened to the anthem sung at the cricket earlier - old forgotten it mentioned "her" as well as the more obvious "Queen". I think that might catch me out

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 12:09

They looked like cross pens?

And William had to ask for a pen

On the FPS group I’m on, much discussion. Apparently Charles used his own Montblanc but everyone else had disposable V2s? If so how rubbish. Unless they’ve been specifically ordered it won’t be archival ink. I always like the fact that US presidents give “branded” FPS to signatories.

That hand flapping and look of annoyance - ugh why couldn't be just move it. I didn't think it was funny, it looked arrogant and impatient.

Yes , baring his teeth and flapping his hand to an assistant .
Pick it up your bloody self
'A life of service ' indeed

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 16:57

There was nowhere to move it to. Quite obviously.

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 16:58

So?

Why treat someone rudely and dismissively .
Pick it up and hand it to someone .
Ridiculous .
If he's like that with cameras on him what on earth is he like when they aren't

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 17:03

One can’t really stop to make polite conversation right in the middle of an extremely important and sombre historical and legislative procedure like that, especially given that it was being televised for the first time.

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 17:05

Have you seen the clip ??

Polite conversation not needed

Pick it up and hand it to someone

Don't grimace and flap your hand in irritation . He wouldn't even pick it up. Servant can do that .

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 17:16

That's the whole point! No one was forthcoming to hand it too! You could see William and Camilla restraining themselves to lean in and move it themselves!

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 17:20

No .
There was someone right there .

The person he was grimacing at.
The person he was flapping his hand at dismissively .
Charles could have picked it up and handed it .
But no.
Let the servant pick it up .
You'd hope he learns to treat people properly but he's 72. That shop has sailed

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 17:22

Charles had a very important tricky job to do.
His mind would be on getting it right, saying the correct things at the right moment, signing the correct part of the paper and the correct name.

Yes.

Let other staff with much less to do and worry about deal with the Ink pot

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 17:23

Why was the someone watching him struggle!

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 17:24

It's gone viral anyway

First of many revealing incidents I expect

I don't think Camilla looks like she wants to take it but her face does say ' oh shit '

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 17:25

@YoniWheretheSunDontShine

If knowing where to sign his name is a challenge , he really is in trouble

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 17:26

Camilla will be bearing enormous strain and remember she has her own family to think of..

However she also had the most wonderful smile during all the seal business..

Well done penny for getting out all that tongue twisters seal business!!

He was holding a pen in the hand closest and had the document in the other. He isn't an octopus.

I’ll just leave this here… yes he has lost his mother, yes he is under pressure, yes he is thrust into the limelight however being kind and courteous comes from within…no matter the scenario you are facing.

Clunkclicksuckmydick · 10/09/2022 17:42

I think people see what they want to see with stuff like this really.

If you want to think the best, you'll think he's grimacing and waggling the tray hoping someone will rescue him, in a flustered way.

If you want to think the worst you'll think he's petulant and cross, too good to pick up a tray himself.

We're all see the same thing, just interpret it differently.

Novella4 · 10/09/2022 17:42

@SoupDragon none of what you say means he had to be dismissive and rude
Obviously habitual

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 17:46

Argh Paul burrel. Was that made before or after he stole Princess Diana's personal belongings?

Novum · 10/09/2022 17:47

HappyHamsters · 10/09/2022 10:49

The inkpot was a birthday gift to Charles from William and Harry

I think that was the pen, not the ink pot.

On another note, what on earth were Bojo and Gordon Brown talking about so animatedly in the front row. Brown kept saying something into Boris's ear, and then Boris started flapping his hands about.

I thought Brown was being polite. Blatantly none of the Conservatives wanted to talk to Boris.

Novum · 10/09/2022 17:53

He didn't take the pen. It was his pen which he withdrew from his jacket pocket in the first place. There were more pens in the tray thing on the table, but he'd handed that to an aide to get it out of the way.
