Has me cracking up.

Who thought to put it at the side where they sign. They have all moved it. The King wiggling the pens will become a meme...
Then ThenPrince of Wales didnt have a pen 🤣🤣

OP posts:

Poor Camilla had to arch her hand over the ink wells to sign.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/09/2022 11:47

I got the impression that Penny Mordaunt missed a section. KC was flicking through the papers, seemed to show something to Camilla who raised an eyebrow.
Maybe she went out of sequence?

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 11:48

I see that as a sign of good sense - never sign anything until you've checked exactly what it is you're signing and where.

Yes, I assumed the Arch Bish was checking what he was signing - probably does so as a matter of course - he must have to sign a lot of documents and even if a deliberate attempt to mislead him is unlikely in this day and age, there might still be clerical errors.

He keeps pocketing the pen! 😂

Two of them! Hilarious.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 12:08

It's quite something to have to worry about ink pot's spilling??
We have lots of Ink pot's here.

An open ink pot/well is quite a dangerous thing!
Imagine if anyone had knocked it??

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 12:09

They looked like cross pens?

And William had to ask for a pen

Because his Dad pocketed it 30 seconds earlier.

Snozzlemaid · 10/09/2022 12:12

He took his own pen out of his pocket to sign and replaced it after.
He didn't use the one on the table.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 12:15

Maddie there was a tray of pens that had to be removed due to the size of the table.
William had to ask for tray of pens to be put back

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 12:17

No doubt William will have made a mental note for when it's his turn: 'make sure pen situation is properly organised'.

SquirmOfEels · 10/09/2022 12:17

I've got rolling SKY's rolling coverage on in the background, and I'm sure they've just said the ink pot was a gift from Princes William and Harry.

Who might not have had practicality of desk and placement of proclamations uppermost in their mind

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 12:29

Arf.
Non of the actual players should have had to think about ink pot's and room!
This is very much behind the scenes role!

I’m glad to see this thread!

Oh I was on edge the entire time and fully empathise with the King’s frustration...

Someone somewhere will be kicking him or herself for not considering the logistics a little more carefully.

I totally envisaged the Prince of Wales making himself a mental note for the future, too!

Clunkclicksuckmydick · 10/09/2022 12:56

Isn't the ink pot usually at the top of the table, above your work? Or were they thinking about splodges?

LazyDaisy22 · 10/09/2022 12:58

HappyHamsters · 10/09/2022 11:38

I imagine its the little things that cause the most annoyance when you're grieving, taking on huge responsibilities and are in front of the World media, give the man a break. It was thoughtless to have a teeny table laid out like that and was obvious it would cause a problem for all of them.

Yes, I think you’re right. The pressure upon him is unimaginable. That combined with grief is more than enough for anyone.

  1. Dedicated Royal Pen for signing and keeping.
  2. More pens for everybody else.
  3. Bigger table.
  4. Higher chair.
  5. Larger print on a second copy of the proposed actions to take back to the throne to follow the proposals as they are being read out for approval.

I think he took the pen because it's now The Pen King Charles III Used to Sign the Declarations. It's technically now a historical artefact.

He is listing it EBay to help towards the cost of the coronation.

I felt so sorry for William as I’m a leftie too and those bastard ink pens cause us nothing but problems, I’d say the side of his hand is covered in ink 😤

Yes me too. I have just signed the condolence book in the church and managed to leave a trail across the page Sad

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 13:48

I'm reminded by this of the form-filling scene in 'Men in Black'.

Singleandproud · 10/09/2022 13:59

I think who ever set the table up (or just put the ink pot on) set it up in mind for the rest of the Privy Council to sign with the ink pot at the top. Or they've never used an ink pot when writing so didn't know where to place it.

The Ink Pot - is a great name for a pub though.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 14:35

Fabulous if some one uses that name in one of the royal towns or cities pubs

PurpleWisteria · 10/09/2022 14:41

According to the papers the inkwell was put there by William because it was a gift from him and Harry. And the pen was also a present from them.

NiqueNique · 10/09/2022 14:55

I doubt it would have been placed there by William - as a gift to his father, it wouldn’t have been in his possession for him to do so. More likely that the King himself made the decision either on his own or with the Queen, or perhaps in collaboration with whatever aide(s) might discuss and advise on such matters. I think the table was just a little too small to comfortably hold everything, and perhaps no one had thought about that fact.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2022 15:24

I've just read that Charles put it there.

(bizarrely, I can't bring myself to call him "the king". It sounds wrong in a way "the Queen" didn't - I would never have referred to her as just "Elizabeth")
