I quite like them. I'm not a coffee wanker though.

Same. Couldn’t fucking tell you how to make a “proper” coffee, aero press and all that pretentious bullshit. Bags seem like a good option. But I’ll stick to instant anyway.

@girlmom21 I am shuddering at the thought!!

People. Are. Animals!

I’ve never used a coffee bag but I think that advert is brilliant , especially the chap on the ship .

Northe · 09/09/2022 20:23

These were fantastic when an elderly relative became too shaky to get the granules to her cup. She had a special hot water dispenser that she put the cup under and pressed the top but had resorted to tea until we found these.

My mum used them in the 1970s when she had people over for dinner - along with that multi-coloured sugar that looked like jewels!

OMG I had totally forgotten about the posh rainbow sugar that was brought out for dinner party coffees, I used to dunk my finger in it as I felt it tasted magical as it was multicoloured.

That advert is annoying because the company DID think of it before about 20 years ago. Do they really think our memory is that bad Hmm

This! I sometimes shout at the tellywelly this very thing! I think it might be ok, if you don't have your coffee very strong. I find I can only get a brew that's too weak for me that way.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 09/09/2022 20:51

DM buys them because she lives alone and cavy gets through a jar of coffee without it going manky.

noodlezoodle · 09/09/2022 21:11

Not nearly as hideous as the instant white tea granules I used to drink at university 😱

Whatever happened to that sugar - I haven't seen it for years.

hugoagogo · 09/09/2022 21:34

They make a weak brew and absorb half the water, not for me thank you.

Lsquiggles · 09/09/2022 21:35

The awful advert is enough to put me off ever trying them!

AtomicBlondeRose · 09/09/2022 21:35

They’re gross. Those one-cup filters are the bomb though, and the Rombouts ones are cardboard so not single-use plastic.

Augend23 · 09/09/2022 21:39

I don't understand why they are weirder than teabags?

Tea brewed with loose leaf is a superior product to teabag tea. But quite often I simply cannot be bothered with loose leaf.

Why wouldn't the same apply to coffee and cafetières vs a coffee bag?

hugoagogo · 09/09/2022 21:56

It's not that they're weird, they just don't make an acceptable cup of coffee.

saraclara · 09/09/2022 21:58

hugoagogo · 09/09/2022 21:34

The hot lava java is fine for strength, and they really don't absorbs much water at all, so that's s gross exaggeration. Just as with a teabag I press it against the side as I'm removing it.

I wouldn't use one at home, but again, great for where instant is otherwise the only option, like some offices, and most hotel rooms..

saraclara · 09/09/2022 21:59

You have to leave them to brew for longer than a teabag though. Maybe that's where some posters are going wrong

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 22:06

They're ok but they're not coffee. Totally different flavour

FictionalCharacter · 09/09/2022 22:13

I agree, they need a much longer brew. I used to buy the Lyons ones years ago and they were good. It’s basically a bag filled with ground coffee so I don’t understand why some people find them rank. You need to keep them in an airtight container just like ground coffee.

onlyconnect · 09/09/2022 22:17

I use them at work because I don't like instant coffee and I don't have any other way of making fresh. They're not great, but better than instant.

Tort · 09/09/2022 22:21

I don’t get the gross or not coffee comments. Aren’t they just a bag of ground coffee? So exactly like a filter coffee? Am I missing something?

BlackCoffeeAndToast · 09/09/2022 22:23

I'm stuck on the idea that using a cafetiere is pretentious wankery. Eh? Pouring hot water over granules and then pressing down after a few minutes is pretentious? Who knew.

Madeintowerhamlets · 09/09/2022 22:25

I’ve not seen the advert but you’ve reminded me that these are a thing OP. I’m going to try them! Sorry, probably not the desired response!

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 09/09/2022 22:32

They weren't very pleasant in the 1980s, so I'm not tempted to try again. I'm more than happy with my Bialetti.

Mangogogogo · 09/09/2022 22:36

We get them to go ultralight hiking
