Humanity is finished.

They are great for a quick, relatively decent (way better than instant) coffee. We use Lyon’s coffee bags.

I haven't tried them but surely, if they're filled with decent coffee, you're effectively just making filter coffee?

Yes, they taste great if you get a good one, there are also some horrible ones. They are nicer than instant coffee, and convenient when you can’t grind or make coffee with ground coffee.

RequiemForAcat · 09/09/2022 22:41

If you think that’s pretentious, you’ll hate me when I tell you I have a bean to cup machine and can’t stand instant coffee nor can I stand coffee bags, my mum had some in last time I stayed and it was like drinking dirty dishwater! Taylor’s brand they were.

Talipesmum · 09/09/2022 22:44

We get these ones: www.moreishcoffee.co.uk/smooth-colombian-coffee-bags

They don’t taste “shit” - they taste v nice! Not dissimilar to cafetière coffee. Nicer than most filter coffee I’ve had. Much nicer than most instant. Not as good as fancy coffee. We use them for camping and for emergency coffee if we run out of ground. Let them steep for 5 mins and squeeze.

katseyes7 · 09/09/2022 22:46

I'm pretty sure we had them in the late 1960s. I don't think they lasted long, but l most definitely remember them.

Robin60 · 09/09/2022 22:52

I’m not sure why you feel so strongly - do you use real tea rather than tea bags?
In my opinion they are a pretty quick fix when I want a decent coffee but CBA.
And far superior to a Starbucks x

TheClitterati · 09/09/2022 22:57

Coffee bags? Meh. Whatever.

Coffee pods - disgraceful insanity & environmental catastrophe.

senua · 09/09/2022 23:00

I was going to try them but after seeing the price and the amount of packaging I decided against.

imnotthatkindofmum · 09/09/2022 23:14

I love them, great when camping and way better than instant!

mrsbyers · 09/09/2022 23:21

I used to love the rombouts cups that you sat over a tea cup and poured water through - made a lovely cuppa

The ones I linked above are 50 in a single large bag - no individual wrapping etc. It’s £10 for 50 so not cheap but they last us a year as we don’t use them that often.

My ds2 gets his from cannonball coffee, they are really nice.

But they aren't bags so why are you saying this.??????

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2022 00:26

The Taylor's ones aren't bad, definitely worth taking on holiday, hotel coffee is too often dire. We found we had to thoroughly warm the cup with boiling water first for it to be hot enough though.

TerfranosaurusVagina · 10/09/2022 00:29

Ringtons do a nice one. They're great for picnics or long walks when you've got a flask of hot water.
If you've got a saucer or something that'll sit on top of the cup, it'll prevent it from cooling too much while it brews.

The beans are really good as well, ds2 uses those in his filter coffee flask, but uses the bags for ease.

Cas112 · 10/09/2022 00:54

Yes, so stupid!

OperaStation · 10/09/2022 06:57

Tort · 09/09/2022 22:21

I don’t get the gross or not coffee comments. Aren’t they just a bag of ground coffee? So exactly like a filter coffee? Am I missing something?

Exactly this. The responses on this thread are really odd.

I’ve been using the Taylor’s decaf ones for a while and they’re really good and very convenient.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/09/2022 08:01

I'd forgotten about coffee bags. DM would have them in her coffee cup ready for the teasmaid to get into action in the morning. This was 40 years ago.

She used Lyons until they disappeared from her supermarkets.

AdamnEden2 · 10/09/2022 08:44

Bought at a market at discount price

Percol coffee bags

No complaints here

Fifthtimelucky · 10/09/2022 09:00

I don't drink coffee at all and my husband does only very rarely.

Normally if I have guests I use a cafetière but that wastes huge amounts of coffee because I don't have any use for the rest of the bag once I've opened it.

Coffee bags look like they could be a good option for us!

thegcatsmother · 10/09/2022 09:10

Been using the Lyons ones for decades. They are still available at Sainsbury, Waitrose etc according to the Lyons website, and on Amazon. 4 different types now.

PinkTonic · 10/09/2022 09:11

I’m a coffee wanker and I bring them on holiday to use in the room. I don’t see they’re any different to a filter really.

Flamingosarentreal · 10/09/2022 09:28

I use them at work as i am hybrid working so they are convenient for the odd day here and there .
I like Ueshima Fuji mountain blend.
