How will you refer to Charles now?

Obviously in official/media contexts he will be called the King.

But at home, will you refer to him as the King like we did of course the Queen? Or will you still call him Charles? Is King Charles the easier middle ground?

I can't get my head around just saying the King.

Either King Charles or just Charles depending on the context, how I'm feeling.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 09/09/2022 09:11

It'll get normal with time. How frequently are you referring to the (figure)head of state usually, anyway?

LightDrizzle · 09/09/2022 09:12

The King or Charles. As time goes on I expect I will use The King mostly.

I called the Queen, the Queen, or occasionally Brenda, not Elizabeth.

I’ll probably keep forgetting for a while and keep saying ‘Prince Charles’ but generally, ‘The King’.

DillDanding · 09/09/2022 09:15

I guess they’ll be referred to as the king and queen, once everyone gets used to it.

CrunchyCarrot · 09/09/2022 09:15

His Maj, probably!

Aposterhasnoname · 09/09/2022 09:15

Well I’ve always called him Charlie boy, so
probably that. I called the queen queeniepoos (don’t ask). Kingiepoos doesn’t have quite the same ring to it!

im a massive royalist by the way.

Monday55 · 09/09/2022 09:16

King Charles flows better on the tongue for me.

RoutineLow · 09/09/2022 09:17

It'll be difficult to get out of the habit of Prince Charles. Probably I'll just say Charles. Camilla will definitely still be Camilla.

notonl · 09/09/2022 09:17

An unnecessary and largely unwanted expense.

InsertPunHere · 09/09/2022 09:18

Chuck or Charlie boy up until now, doubt it will change.

The Queen was always The Queen or Her Maj.

Imissmoominmama · 09/09/2022 09:18

Each generation will pick up the new titles and run with them. It’s more difficult for oldies to switch, when we’ve had 70 years of the Queen.

Nanalisa60 · 09/09/2022 09:19

The King

SharpLily · 09/09/2022 09:19

I shall probably forget and keep calling him Prince Charles for the next ten years at least - but then I've only just got used to writing the date as 2022 instead of 2021 for this year.

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 09/09/2022 09:20

I think we'll still think of him as Charles until we get used to saying the King. The King still springs Elvis to mind!
It'll be interesting to see how he serves. He certainly has big shoes to full. I think he will be more vocal than we are used to from our monarch, especially about environmental issues.
Hopefully there will be reconciliation between him and Harry now, I still think Harry's a silly bugger, but its sad to see him estranged.

Mushroomlady · 09/09/2022 09:20

I have trouble saying Charles. So will prob be King Chiles

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 09/09/2022 09:20

DP asked Alexa a question about Prince Charles yesterday and she pointedly replied with an answer about King Charles III. Habits just take a while to shift, but before long the new way is automatic. When you've heard and read the words "the king" enough times, it won't seem so weird or anachronistic or inappropriate or unfamiliar or foreign or whatever it currently feels to you.

It'll be really interesting to see how long it takes! Disclaimer - I'm not a royalist so I don't think it will come easily to use the title.

I did call him old tampon-head at one point yesterday when I was getting fed up with the blanket coverage 😒

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 09/09/2022 09:24

I don't think so, certainly not in terms of pr and tourism, Royal patronage to give charities a boost etc.

Depends on context - just like the late Queen could have been The Queen, Queen Elizabeth, Lizzie, Liz or Brenda

Fluffygreenslippers · 09/09/2022 09:25

Charles or the king. I’m absolutely fascinated that we will have a king again.
