William and Harry now have the "The" showing they are children of the monarch. HRH The Prince William and HRH The Prince Henry.

so will The Prince Harry now have Prince Archy and Princess Lilibet?

Yes, they became entitled to the HRH Prince/ss automatically as male line grandchildren of the monarch.

Barring any changes to LP's any potential future grandchildren to Charles will be HRH Prince/ss at birth (as long as their parents are married).

Even after Charles' death - several of George V's grandchildren, including Princess Alexandra, were born after he died, but still entitled as a grandchild of a monarch.

Wikipedia's already changed its page - if you search for and click on Queen's counsel, you get something headed "King's Counsel".

It seems so…can’t think of the right word, but sad that she is erased immediately. I feel sorry for Charles, he gets thrown into this role replacing his mother and no time to mourn.

I can see many football fans singing rousing renditions of ‘God save the Quee-ing’

Classic Bond films look even more dated.

Oh my days! It should have been this, sadly too late now

Fun has been cancelled at work later today. We were supposed to be dressing up and having a bit of a party, but we're not doing it now. I was really looking forward to it. ☹️

Harry is now the son of a King and therefore his children are automatically
Prince and Princess whether they use the titles or not and Charles could not take
the titles away without changing the rules on titles which I cannot quite recall the names of

Is that always automatic with the child of a monarch? Princess Anne's children have never been known as Prince and Princess

No, because she is a poxy woman and women cannot pass on their status, unless they are the monarch.

For Peter and Zara to have titles, there would have had to be a law (Letters Patent) giving Mark Philips a title, which he could then pass on. In the way that Lord Snowden was created.

That's because Anne is female.

Male line titles are automatic. Females aren't entitled to pass their titles on.

George VI even had to make special LP's for the Queen's children otherwise they wouldn't have been HRH Prince/ss until she was Queen.

Dh said something about William now getting first dibs on any wrecks off Cornwall. And a load of big fish too.

Does Charlie now get the swans or was that an exaggeration about the Queen owning the swans?

Eeksteek · 09/09/2022 01:25

lightisnotwhite · 08/09/2022 22:46

It feels like we’ve gone backwards to time saying King. I just associate it with periods of war. “F King and Country” etc.

Me too. I’m used to seeing it in old Agatha Christie books. One of my first realisations that books got written in the past as though it were the present and stayed there was a reference to the king in ‘The Borrowers, and I couldn’t get my head around it.

My bottom set y11 lesson on Macbeth this morning was loads more interesting, on the premise that Her Maj was clearly popping off imminently, so we had an excellent debate about primogeniture & its drawbacks.

Weekend for us here (overseas) but I believe there are plans to fiddle at school with flags.

I hope she drifted off peacefully. Not a fan of the royal family, but grudging respect for her indomitable attitude, & I genuinely believe that was a life played on hard mode & without complaint.

Eeksteek · 09/09/2022 01:49

We so should have been a Queendom. I wonder why we weren’t?

I’m a bit sad about all this. I liked and admired Elizabeth, and I’m sad she died. But somehow a King feels very different. I was thinking it’s because I can’t really warm to Charles, but now I’m wondering if the change to King is part of it. It feels like such a big change, even though I wasn’t a ‘fan’ just had a passing interest and it won’t affect me much. I don’t know the words to the anthem anyway. (I don’t have occasion to sing it!) but I rather liked being a Queendom (even though we weren’t)

He owns the underlying title (radical title) to 70% of the land in New Zealand and huge swathes of alienated land in Australia and Canada.
