My brother said they were told early, doesn’t make sense?

Mistakes happen.
The BBC accidentally announced the death of the Queen Mother on Ceefax when, during a rehearsal it went live in error.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 23:50

*So Liz Truss and kier starmer are both lying

give over.

We all knew well before then that her death was imminent with the things that were happening.

That the PM wasn’t told for many hours, or both Tory and Labour have decided to lie about when they were told, is just a silly suggestion frankly.*

You give over champ.

I have no idea what time anyone was told.

Except me.

PicturesOfDogs · 08/09/2022 23:50

To be honest, I think most people seem annoyed they couldn’t put two and two together.

it was very obvious from lunchtime what was happening.

The newsreaders don’t just start changing to black and fighting back tears everyday.

The language used, the fact scheduling was cancelled, lots of people clearly knew.

People gossip, for everyone saying ‘they wouldn’t let people know’ how do you explain that many people clearly did know, and have been talking about it hours before official announcement?

It really doesn’t make anyone ‘special’

sunflowerdaisyrose · 08/09/2022 23:51

My husband has an official role in op London Bridge. He had various calls about it this afternoon (and leave cancelled) but this was based on the news as it was quite obvious what was happening. He found out officially the same time as everyone else.

PicturesOfDogs · 08/09/2022 23:51

Where have Liz Truss and Kier Starmer personally confirmed they heard at 4:30?

I might have missed it, but I’ve not seen them say a time personally

It's fucking hilarious that there are so many people on here who were told before the PM, or had friends/husbands were told before the PM.

We all knew it was coming. That's very different to being told officially.

Nobody that's posting on here tonight was officially told before the PM. Anyone that close to the royal household will be rather bloody busy this evening.

No it isn't always a man. My DD works for the RAF and found out several minutes before it was announced on tv.

I found out several minutes before it was on TV or radio because I was on Twitter 🙄

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 08/09/2022 23:54

But that’s exactly what happened with Diana. They knew she had died, yet the statement put out was that she had been injured

When they first announced that she was injured, she was still alive. Based on what we later found out from the various inquiries, she did died around 4 am. I was awake as I was working that night. There was a bit of a lag, but not much - they had announced her death by around 5.30.

There's a big difference between knowing it was coming - which everyone did because of what was going on - and being officially told.

It's just hilarious how many people are claiming to have been officially told before the PM.

But if you work in a profession where you haven’t been told officially, but it was really obvious from comms you’ve received, and then passed the message on, isn’t that the same thing?

Most people are not saying they’ve been officially told by the Palace, just that they knew.

It doesn’t seem surprising to me, I’m surprised so many on here are surprised tbh.

Most people who work in media would have known before the official announcement I’d have thought.

I bet most messages sent began with ‘Don’t tell anybody, but….’

Jalepenojello · 08/09/2022 23:57

Friend works in journalism and has “contacts” 🙄 she called it at 4pm. Who knows really

I was never 'officially' told anything.

What I find hilarious is that you can't imagine a single scenario outside your bubble.

And tbh how I was told was hardly a wild scenario. And yep I'll be checking with them tomorrow what time they knew. And my friends in telly. I bet loads of people knew earlier than 'official' times.

If you can't wrap your head around that 🤷‍♀️ whatever. Don't worry about it you don't know me anyway.

pawkins · 08/09/2022 23:57

PurplePansy05 · 08/09/2022 22:03

I am positive this is what's happened, and I agree with you.

I originally thought the same tbh. Although he isn't an 'official Royal' anymore and perhaps they waited until the 'official Royals' were gathered together rather than the immediate family. Eugenie, Beatrice, Kate weren't there either. I thought it was harsh when they knew he was on the way but I expect they all knew hours beforehand.

PicturesOfDogs · 08/09/2022 23:57

I’m sure I saw an interview, I can’t remember who it was with, that the guy said just as they were announcing on the news she had been injured, they were summoned into a room and told she had in fact died

No, it's not remotely the same.

People are trying to play Billy Big Bollocks by stating that they were told because they/their husband/their friend is a super duper important person. But it's bullshit.

They weren't told. Everyone knew it was coming today as soon as the first announcement about her health and her family travelling was announced.

JadeandGreen · 08/09/2022 23:59

I agree, felt so sorry for him today.

Oh give over with your patronising bollocks.

Everyone knew it was coming. You weren't told by anyone officially before the PM knew.

I mean, if you need the self importance of your very important all-knowing friends telling you then knock yourself out.

This will sound harsh, but it’s not about Harry.

Charles had just found out his mother has died, he is now the King, he probably had 101 people on to him that they need to get the announcement out now, sounds like they waited as long as they could.

Harry, whilst being son of the monarch, doesn’t really have a role to play in an official capacity, and harsh as it sounds, this was bigger than him

Nope. That just says more about you. And what you think makes a 'super duper important' person. ( jesus)

Like.I said you just sound very annoyed.

I don’t know why it matters to you so much if people were officially told, or found out via unofficially channels.

Nope. I'm highly amused.

As I said, enjoy your important all-knowing if it makes you feel better about yourself pet.

Hang on - I got jumped on because I said people hadn't been told officially. Which they hadn't.

Obviously I'm going to defend myself against that.

JustLyra · 09/09/2022 00:04

You know what - enjoy your sock puppetting.

The nasty PM has been reported as well.
