My brother said they were told early, doesn’t make sense?

@bottleofbeer

My guess is the CPS.
That wouldn’t surprise me at all.

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:31

Apparently not.

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:33

And as if by magic someone may have worked it out! CROWN...pro....

Nevermind.

Caulidop · 08/09/2022 23:33

This seems like blatent fishing for a crap tabloid story

Namedifferentorquestion · 08/09/2022 23:34

Apparently some were told she was dead before she even died. Anyway some niece at the Met knew first wink wink obviously.

I work in media and was told she was going to die at about 12:30PM.

Everyone in the newsroom was on high alert throughout the day.

Yes a friend works in rolling news and they were all told the black ties should be got out at lunchtime, so no doubt that it was imminent at least. Said they knew in the afternoon but couldn’t let on before the announcement.

I think it was pretty obvious it wasn’t a drill but the real thing from the time the rolling coverage started, but I did notice quite a shift in the general tone around 4-ish and a lot more of trying to keep things carefully phrased, so I assume they knew for definite around then. I wouldn’t have liked to be Huw Edwards today — he had a grim task.

Apparently government officials knew at 1pm.

Did you pluck this figure out of your own arse or someone else’s 🙄

We're not even close to the route from Scotland to London.

But it's possible that people from every force may be needed.

I've told you, it's all there. I just didn't 'say' it 🙂

SAS camp?

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 23:36

*So the PM, and the Leader of the Opposition, is lying about the time she was informed about the Queen's death?

Seriously?

I mean, she'll have known she was dying (as we all did) and she will have had more detailed info about it, but you actually think she's outright lied about it?*

Obviously I could say something about the Tory Party and lying here........ We've all lived through the last 2 years... etc etc and heard them.

But I think the Queen died earlier than 4.30 and I have no one idea why Liz Truss was told then.

Seems late to me.

Zonder · 08/09/2022 23:37

Well I knew at 6.30 like most people but I had a darn good idea the news was coming very soon from about 1.30pm.

That's not because I'm very important and needed to be told. It's because I was watching the news and can put 2 and 2 together.

EntertainingandFactual · 08/09/2022 23:38

RedToothBrush · 08/09/2022 23:27

Around 2ish.

I was at a friend's until 1.45pm.

Word was that she was seriously ill and notice had been given by the Speaker about it before I left around 12 to 12.30pm.

When I got home and stuck the news on and it was just about breaking that they had cancelled the afternoon schedule til 6pm.

At that point it was obvious it was a 'this is your notice period'.

She cancelled the privvy meeting last night, but the family stayed put. They only decided to travel around lunchtime today.

So i think this morning she must have taken a significant turn for the worse compared to even last night.

Huw and Nick were tripping over themselves to get the present tense all afternoon. They didn't slip up but it looked awkward and not natural to the point I commented on it.

Yes, the royal relatives appeared wearing black around 2pm. They flew in as well.
I think they must have received the news of her death around midday.

sunglassesonthetable · 08/09/2022 23:39

Exactly.

Lots of people very annoyed in case someone else thinks they are 'important '. God alive take a break.

anon666 · 08/09/2022 23:39

The cascade of comms plus the media reaction gave clear signs.

That's going to be missed by most people, unless (like me) they are glued to social media and the news.

It was highly unusual when the queen missed the Privy council, when she had met Liz Truss the day before.

Then this morning there was an ominous message about her being "under medical supervision", but not being transported to hospital.

That hints at end of life because they don't normally issue statements about the queen's health unless it's significant.

If they were worried enough for that formal announcement, they'd potentially have transported to hospital, unless they weren't planning to treat.

A further statement was issued saying that the queen was comfortable and resting. That again fitted with end of life, and by that point the family were being airlifted in hurriedly.

It was clear by the tone of Nick Witchell and Huw Edwards that they were gently paving the way for further bad news.

Also, the way they cleared the schedules "till 6" suggested an announcement was expected at 6.

That my recollection of the days events. Obviously I've been glued to it. 😢

Namedifferentorquestion · 08/09/2022 23:39

So many claiming different times!

"UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has spoken to King Charles III after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, according to a Downing Street spokesperson. Truss was informed of the Queen's death at 4.30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. ET), according to the spokesperson."

Yet

"At 3:07 p.m. London time, BBC anchor Yalda Hakim tweeted “BREAKING: Queen Elizabeth has died aged 96, Buckingham Palace has announced."

So the PM was told around 80 minutes after it was on general release...umm surely she knew a little before

bottleofbeer · 08/09/2022 23:39

SAS camp?

Ohhh that could be SO relevant or huge coincidence

Exactly, we' weren't even watching telly, I was reading these messages from well wishers from government reps from around the world from around 2ish and thought, this doesnt make sense if she's just not well, she must be either dead or dying already, there was no reason for media to publish those messages and the tone of them was semi obituary.

Bovrilly · 08/09/2022 23:43

No it means that if they were still on the air at that point they would hand over to the scheduled 6 o'clock news.

PicturesOfDogs · 08/09/2022 23:43

JS87 · 08/09/2022 23:24

I don’t think she’d have died by the time they put the lunch time statement out. Pretty sure they wouldn’t lie and say she was still alive if she was dead. Plus the speaker of the House of Commons wouldn’t have sent well wishes if they knew she’d already died. So it must have been after 1ish I think. I would have thought PM would have been told very quickly but it might have depended on whether they’d managed to contact the family?

But that’s exactly what happened with Diana.

They knew she had died, yet the statement put out was that she had been injured.

It’s how they ‘prepare’ for the news, and then al the cogs go into motion until they are ready for official announcements

lanadelgrey · 08/09/2022 23:44

After the message passed to Truss this am, everyone was expecting it. The question of exactly when was immaterial. Stuff started rolling quietly in the background everywhere, surely. I work in an area where wheels have to be put in motion and we started quietly after that point but without any early specific knowledge. We are reasonably well trained to get on with what needs to be done to respond to big events and didn’t have time to really speculate if a colleague knew more. A lot has been rehearsed or a plan drawn up that goes into action. It gets cascaded down. I was surprised that it wasn’t announced at six just because the main people were at Balmoral by five-ish. I suspect we won’t know for a while when exactly she died. Some of what kicked it would be the same if there was a major incident such as terrorist attack. It is at least heavily choreographed from now on. I expect a busy day tomorrow and then things will fall into place until the funeral. TV schedules will be being heavily revised though. At least we don’t get wall to wall classical music or Swan Lake on repeat.

So Liz Truss and kier starmer are both lying

give over.

We all knew well before then that her death was imminent with the things that were happening.

That the PM wasn’t told for many hours, or both Tory and Labour have decided to lie about when they were told, is just a silly suggestion frankly.

Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, there is hierarchical dissemination for information with these type of occurrences.

A family member who is very senior in his industry and his team (small SLT) were briefed earlier this afternoon - but ever the professional, he didn’t say a word until after the media announced it.

Unless your relative's 'industry' is the Cabinet Office, MI5 or similar, that is bullshit.

Why the fuck would the British Establishment start briefing random industry senior staff - of whom there must be several hundred thousand in the country- at the very moment when they are trying to avoid an announcement or leak until arrangements are in place for the smooth transition of power?

That tweet was very quickly deleted and the author tweeted an apology!

We were notified at 3.15pm pending Gov official announcement

She didn't die until after 4pm so that was impressive of whoever told them.

How do you know when she died?
