The church across the road is ringing a toll. I am properly crying.

vera99 · 08/09/2022 20:11

I see Josephine Lycett has turned up.

Actually shocked at how upset this has made me.
RIP.

Same. I’m shocked at how I cried. Really cried on the news of her passing. RIP

I miss her. The queen was more of a constant in my life, then some of my own family.

That is one good thing about the Royal family, they give us a family feeling. They give a family feeling to people that don't have families. She felt like a grandmother to me from a distance. I didnt have any grandmothers growing up at all. One was dead, one refused to see me.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 20:14

Tell me something, IHateWasps. You clearly have no time for royalty and the queen, and that's fine, but why is it beyond you to understand that people are upset and grieving and want to talk about that and share it? why all the snark and unpleasantness?

It's not snark. It's my genuine feelings and it counteracts all the fawning and hysteria on here and the insistence that every single person is devastated. Well we're not all in pieces and I don't like people pretending that everyone is.

I haven't wished The Royal Family ill and as I've mentioned I genuinely hope that the Queen had a peaceful passing and got to enjoy all of the things she loved most but I'm not going to fawn over them to make others feel better.

I feel sad that we have lost our lovely queen. It feels momentous and has brought up feelings about my dads death last year. And knowing that things won’t ever be the same.

Like others have said, I feel sad that my daughter won’t grow up with a female monarch.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 08/09/2022 20:16

Thank you for taking time out of your inconsolable grief of a privileged parasite to notice

Thank you for making my point for me. I'm not inconsolable, BTW. I think this is a momentous and historical day and I can understand why some people are upset. But then I can enter into other people's feelings and understand them. Shame some people can't and use this to show their own mean-spiritedness.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:16

I can't understand my own feelings of grief
I've lost all my family and I feel like it brings it all back : she was a legend though
Rip

Salome61 · 08/09/2022 20:17

I was walking my dog when my son texted me with the news, I was quite shocked. She did a great job and will be missed.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:17

I sobbed ..
It's so surreal.

Mooshamoo · 08/09/2022 20:18

@IHateWasps Can we just have a thread to grieve.

You also took what I said too literally and too personally. When I said "of course we are all upset': - I didn't mean that every single person in the UK is upset. My comment was referring to the people who said that they were surprised that they were upset. I replied "of course we are all upset".

No one said that everyone in the UK is upset.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 08/09/2022 20:18

Devastated. Hasn't sunk in properly yet. I know she was 96 and has lived a good life, but I am really upset about it. Heartbroken actually. Don't think I will be on here for a few days after tonight. Sad

12 million was paid to Andrews victims, do you know how many impoverished families that could clothe, feed, heat and house?

gnilliwdog · 08/09/2022 20:19

I think we are facing such difficult and uncertain times that this feels particularly destabilising.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 08/09/2022 20:20

It's because of nasty shit and putrid bile like @IHateWasps is spouting that I am avoiding social media and won't be on here for a few days.. Just gonna have a mooch for half hour then I'm done.

Mooshamoo · 08/09/2022 20:20

I feel really sad. I feel when something like this happens, you kind of connect to thousands of other people's sadness too.

There is like a connective sadness energy that we are connecting into and feeling

CrabbitBastard · 08/09/2022 20:20

What day is the funeral?

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:21

It reminds me of my own parents , born in the same era too
They loved her.
I hope she is at peace.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 08/09/2022 20:22

@IHateWasps but nobody is pretending we're all in pieces. But a lot of us, myself included, are genuinely surprised by how moved we've found ourselves. I wasn't expecting to be sad but here I am.

A lot of us don't agree with the royal family as a whole and yes they do live incredibly privileged lives but now is not the time to harp on about it. Would you go to Buckingham Palace and gloat? Somehow I doubt it.

If you're not moved then just scroll on by. I was surprised by the mass hysteria when Diana died as I felt none of it...did I broadcast my opinion or just keep my mouth shut out of respect?

princesssparklepants · 08/09/2022 20:22

Also surprised how upset I am by the news.

Can't help but feel like it's been bad news after bad news and this has just compounded it. The queen had always been the one constant in so much unknowing change....

Nasty putrid bile AKA wishing the Queen a peaceful and comfortable passing and failing to be sufficiently boot licky to appease the Pro Royalists. Right.

Yes, it's sad when someone passes
Brings back bad memories too of other bereavements :(

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 08/09/2022 20:25

Last week we had Queen Elizabeth ii and Boris pm.
Now we have king Charles iii and liz as pm!

The Queen must have felt strange passing Liz as pm? Knowing she didn't have long left??

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 20:26

I'm glad the PM was indoctrinated by the Queen before she passed
It feels right !
