Why are people saying that they are surprised that they are upset.

Of course we are going to be upset. The Queen was in our lives, - for our whole entire lives up until today.

It doesnt matter if you were a monarchist or not, as the queen, she was a constant presence in every single one of our lives in the UK. For our entire life so far, up until this day.

All of us on here are aged under 96. So she was a presence in all of our lives, for the entirety of our lives, up until this day.

Of course we are all going to be upset. Its the end of an era.

MrsPear · 08/09/2022 19:46

End of an era. Amazing service and rock.

God save the king.

Here is the Albanian take - interesting what pictures they have chosen - for those interested in a non British view point. Top Channel The news channels are all running it as top story / beating the alleged iran cyber attack,

caringcarer · 08/09/2022 19:48

I think our Queen will be remembered as Elizabeth the Great. RIP

I completely agree that today isn't the day to bring Harry and Meghan into it. Or anyone else.

But seriously, disliking Meghan isn't always about race. Thinking Harry is a bit shit doesn't always have anything to do with who he married. The jump to accuse people of racism when there are plenty of other possible reasons really trivialises the very real issue of racism.

Today really should just be about the Queen. Nothing else matters. Petty squabbles need to be set aside right now.

RIP Queen Elizabeth. Rest easy, you'll be missed by many.

TiredyMcTired · 08/09/2022 19:49

I was really upset at the news, even though the earlier announcements were designed to prepare everyone. I have always admired The Queen and this is absolutely an era changing moment in history. DH is an anti-monarchist but is respectfully keeping quiet while I watch the news coverage and sniffle.

Mooshamoo · 08/09/2022 19:50

God I actually feel really strong grief. Like when my Dad died. Ive been roaring cring here, and I feel a pain in my heart

AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/09/2022 19:51

It seems an awesome thing, making a promise at the age of 25 to serve one's country, and sticking to it, day in day out, for 70 years. An ethos of sacrifice and service that's very rare.

It's also strange; she's the only monarch virtually all of us have ever known. So to have that change now, suddenly, is weird, and sad. For all that it was entirely inevitable and predictable that this day would come, it's still a shock.

BloodyHellKen · 08/09/2022 19:51

But to go from kind, caring, hardworking, nice Elizabeth:

To Charles, who has been uncaring so many times, is too hard!

I cant think of any positive traits about Charles. At worst he is unkind and nasty. At best he is drippy and boring.

Why so much dislike of Charles? He has been a champion of the environment for decades which gets my vote. As for boring, he's a 70 year old public servant FFS not an entertainer.

vera99 · 08/09/2022 19:55

With her beauty and youth, she ushered in post-war optimism and hope. Indeed my late mum camped out all night outside Westminster Abbey for her Coronation. An ageing and enfeebled King Charles with a broken family behind him seems anything thus. It feels like we are walking on broken glass into the darkness.

RaRaRaspoutine · 08/09/2022 19:55

Ah @Mooshamoo handhold for you. She reminds me of my Nan, who is also growing frail. She rang us early in the morning when Diana died, in contrast to earlier when she was cooking her dinner and didn’t know the queen had passed. Just reminds me that she’s not as on the ball like she used to be. I’ve had a few tears for the family who are grieving their mum and nan.

Why does being 70 have to make you boring?

The Queen was 96 and she was not boring. It doesnt mean he has to be an entertainer. It just means that he doesnt have a lot of likeable qualities. He is known for being selfish, wimpish, unkind and not a people person.

He is definitely not popular.

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 19:58

Of course we are all going to be upset. Its the end of an era.

All? I don't feel a thing about it let alone upset. Why this insistence that every single one of us must be devastated?

I hope that she had a peaceful and comfortable death surrounded by everyone who was important to her and that she got to enjoy all of her favourite foods and other things that she loved in her last days, as I would wish for anyone but that's it.

No I think in the past they left coins and notes in circulation, and just gradually replaced them as they wore out.

My parent's wedding certificate had an Edward VIII stamp on it and my Dad used to tell us that it meant they weren't really married!
We've just ordered new hymn books for Church, it'll have the National Anthem with Queen still there, damn!

IHateWasps · 08/09/2022 19:59

She did a lot for us.

I beg to disagree.

hiyaqwerty · 08/09/2022 20:00

So sad rip queen. This country will never be the same again, will be a long time til this country sees another queen.

Novella4 · 08/09/2022 20:01

What's this public servant crap re the royals some posters have started ??

The royals live a life of luxury and leisure off the backs off the citizens. Stop pretending they do a 40 hour week
And give us a referendum on whether the monarchy continues .

Mooshamoo · 08/09/2022 20:02

Why so much dislike of Charles?

  1. How he treated Diana. Not just the affair. Yes, people have affairs. But he seemed to go out of his way to be particularly cruel to Diana. He gave presents to Camilla, at the very start of his marriage to Diana. Considering that Diana was 19 and he was in his thirties, it is cruel.

Many people have also said that he was jealous of Diana and the attention she received. That she was more well liked than him. Numerous people said that he insulted Diana's looks and intelligence to her face, because he was jealous of her.

Diana said that he said to her 'I refuse to be the only Prince of Wales that never had a mistress".

  1. May servants accounts of Charles are that he is selfish, spoiled and demanding. We cant say for. sure that this is true. But many people have said it about him. Every servant has said that the Queen was lovely, caring, and not spoilt or selfish. I cant find any serrvant that has said anything bad about the Queen.
Songsareliketattoos · 08/09/2022 20:05

Cried far more than I'd have expected when Huw Edwards (tearfully) announced our lovely Queen's death and still tearful now. Even though she was elderly, this seems to have happened suddenly; suppose I thought she'd be fine for several years yet and be over 100 like her mother. Yes she'd become frail but somehow she'd carry on and on.....💔

Going to miss her kindness, and her mother-of-the-nation presence terribly. Still seems unreal. What a wonderful life of generous service she offered to us all. Hope she has joined Philip, her horses and corgis and her family; may she rest in peace. 💕

Tell me something, IHateWasps. You clearly have no time for royalty and the queen, and that's fine, but why is it beyond you to understand that people are upset and grieving and want to talk about that and share it? why all the snark and unpleasantness?

Please - do everyone a favour and can it! Two days ago the woman of 96 was inaugurating a new prime minister. I think you just don’t know how hard the Queen has worked. Okay you’re an antimonarchist but just show a bit of respect please!

Thank you @IHateWasps I thought that I was the only one. I like the royal family but I feel no sadness.
