But classy if you’re rich? I’ll start…

Crossing a desert in Africa on foot while potentially being shot at, then crossing a body of water in a dinghy

poor: feckless illegal probably after an easy life

rich: daring adventurer, give the man a TV series

Shopping in charity shops
Also designer clothes.

You can't win

Naming your kids after places

ScurryfungeMaster · 02/09/2022 13:15

Clothes that look worn out or scruffy. If you're poor then it's chavvy but if you spend £1,150 on this monstrosity it becomes fashionable Link

Urban youth language
Saying ‘what’ when you don’t understand something
Clothes with holes in them

MWNA · 02/09/2022 13:20

Do u know how many rich people avoid paying tax🤣...and were talking all the way to Alan Sugar

That's the whole point of the thread.😳

Why are so many people being so obtuse? It's quite irritating.

Peasant food. Most of the pretentious humble brags about food on MN are basically poor food eaten by the working class in other countries or by immigrants in this one.

Yes, to second languages definitely.

Middle class people live off grid in tiny houses. Poor people live in trailers.

NCQuiteConfused · 02/09/2022 13:27

I don't think OP is trying to bash the poor/working class etc, she's trying to make the point of double standards.

Yes to speaking a second language. 'Chavs/WC/poor' often told to f*ck off home or speak English whereas MC or wealthy people are told how cultured they are.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 02/09/2022 13:28

Owning guns.

MustardIsTheOnlyCondiment · 02/09/2022 13:29

In fairness, I don't think Boris' millions of children counts. Margaret Thatcher would never have got away with it.

And no one cares about how many feckless poor men impregnate women like Johnny Appleseed.

These are sexist double standards not class based ones. Yes, to everything else though.

purfectpuss · 02/09/2022 13:30

See,I don't think of chavvy as simply indicators of lower social class. Chavvy to me is when someone who is relatively less we'll tries to do something (misguidedly) to make make themselves seem more high class than they actually are- like wearing lots of in your face designer labels, an overly flashy car, too much false tan and makeup, a pair of stone lions at the garden gate of a council house, a cinema sized TV in a tiny from room, lots of over the top heavy gold jewellery etc.

CanaryShoulderedThorn · 02/09/2022 13:30

Growing your own 😉

MustardIsTheOnlyCondiment · 02/09/2022 13:31

University vs apprenticeships or other alternative education for people who need to work.

A woman would absolutely never get away with what Boris does but I don't think a working class man with 8+ children to 4+ women would get elected in this country either.
