What was this kids' book?

I was a child of the very early 80s and I recently had a memory of a much-loved book but I can't find it anywhere as my memory of the book is so vague!

It was a picture book about a girl who lost her favourite cuddly toy (could have been a teddy or a rabbit) and the story is about the toy's journey back to her.

Seeing the Brambly Hedge books reminded me of the illustrations but it's not that illustrator. There's one particular image I remember of the toy in a stream and a bridge.

Can anyone help?!

Er what- just looking up Alpaca again and it's also been published as 'Fuzzy Rabbit'! www.goodreads.com/book/show/2056864.Fuzzy_Rabbit_in_the_Park

How about Corduroy -- the teddy bear? I remember that from my 80s childhood (in America). It's apparently from the late 60s.

Home before Dark by Ian Beck or There and Back Again by Harold Jones are my suggestions.

Nope, not those! It's a bit of a needle in a haystack!

Could the toy have been a rag doll? I'm wondering about Raggedy Ann? But that doesn't quite feel right. I vaguely remember the doll falling in a river?

Was it Jenny's Adventure by Jean Gilder? I think I still have a copy at home somewhere.

I was going to suggest Jenny's Adventure too! I loved that book and managed to find a second hand copy a while ago for my kids.

I loved that book too. We also had a couple of others from Medici Books:
The Party That Grew and Paddy Gets Into Mischief. The illustrations were gorgeous and I can still see them now.

UnOeufIsEnough · 02/09/2022 15:56

One of the most beautiful children's books ever written. I get a little lump in my throat whenever I read it.
