Mine is just under 10 miles away.

I'm amazed so many of you live so close to an airport.

fairgame84 · 31/08/2022 21:38

@PuttingDownRoots @RampantIvy
Yes DSA.
I hope it doesn't close because it's a great airport and they do summer flights to DHs home country but it's not looking positive.
If it closes we will have to fly from Manchester to visit the in laws. I hate flying from Manchester.

Killergigglebunnies · 31/08/2022 21:40

A mile. They take off and land close to my house. They didn’t used to. When I moved in with dh these planes were in the distance. We now can’t sit in our garden. Oh well, that’s what you get with a house close to the airport —still get charged £14 by a taxi to get dropped off— 🙄

MsSquiz · 31/08/2022 21:40

1.5 miles to Newcastle International.
You just get used to hearing the planes and DD1 who is 2.5 has spent the summer in the garden waving to most planes flying over our house, shouting "happy holidays!"

RampantIvy · 31/08/2022 21:40

I hope it doesn't close either. It is the easiest one to get to for us. All that money spent on the new roads as well. It's a pity that Jet2 won't fly from there.

Very recent for me! Stumbled across the cottage and couldn’t resist it. DCs downloaded the flight tracker onto the PC, it’s very interesting.

And it’s reawakened my Air Crash Investigation obsession from years ago so I spend my nights listening to Podcasts about them 😳

saltofcelery · 31/08/2022 21:42

Fascinating subject.

MyboyTwister · 31/08/2022 21:43

1 hour from EMA.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 31/08/2022 21:50

I probably live next door to @PuttingDownRoots 😁

Tachos · 31/08/2022 21:56

3 miles and I'm heading there in a few days. I've been checking the live security queues this week and they've never been longer than 10 minutes so I can safely leave my house less than 2 hours before my flight as it's only a 5 minute drive outside peak hours.

buttergloss · 31/08/2022 22:01

12 minutes from Gatwick airport .

Grumpybutfunny · 31/08/2022 22:05

Local air strip 6.3miles
24 miles from regional airport
95miles from nearest major airport
230miles from Heathrow

willowtree66 · 31/08/2022 22:10

7 miles. But flying any nice from it is complicated.

gogohmm · 31/08/2022 22:11

11 miles apparently, just googled it

GrandSlamFinalee · 31/08/2022 22:15

45 minutes on a direct train (50 mins door to door). Never go by car but it’s around 30km I believe.

gogohmm · 31/08/2022 22:15

@YellowPlumbob

Air crash investigation is must see viewing and flight radar is generally open too. We are under the approach to the airport plus regularly get military planes and helicopters plus civil helicopters

StolenWillowTree · 31/08/2022 22:22

5-minute boat ride or maybe a 15-minute walk. International airport.

StolenWillowTree · 31/08/2022 22:23

Or like 2 minutes by tube probably.

I can lie on my sofa and watch planes landing and taking off!

Kualma · 31/08/2022 22:25

7 miles away from Birmingham airport

Kualma · 31/08/2022 22:26

I sometimes walk to and from the airport if it’s a nice day 🙈 the route is so scenic!

PurplePositivity · 31/08/2022 22:27

@MsSquiz I love that, it's made me Grin

We're about 40 mins to the south and 40 mins to the north.

JulesCobb · 31/08/2022 22:27

33 miles. And 1 hour of driving to get there.

MermaidEyes · 31/08/2022 22:30

25 minutes to the nearest airport, then 40 minutes or 90 minutes to the next two.
Under the flight path of one of them and its fucking noisy 🤬

We get rescue helicopters a lot too.

Hard Landings Podcast is done by three people, all ACI fans, one is an engineer, one works as in maintenance on planes, the other is a teacher who clearly got dragged into it by her friends 😅 It’s by far and away my favourite one.

User148563 · 31/08/2022 22:31

Luton airport is about 40miles away, that is my nearest followed by Stansted, East Midlands and Birmingham
