For an 8yo who helpfully loves arts and crafts.

Received a snide comment about my home at a family bbq and wish to discreetly send the giver my fondest regards whilst winning their child’s affections!

Glitter bomb card?

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/08/2022 18:23

Moon Sand was a particularly memorable one for my dd-do you even get that now?
I suggest something that involves a lot of glitter.

Or a recorder🙉

iloveredwine · 30/08/2022 18:23

Make your own slime kit. It unfortunately got on my brand new sofa and even the insurance couldn't get it out.

@Creepymanonagoatfarm too obvious. I was thinking maybe paint marbling or anything to do with flicking paint?

@iloveredwine ideal, absolutely ideal

Agree with JudgeR, Moonsand was the stuff from Hell.

UpToMyElbowsInDiapers · 30/08/2022 18:26

Kinetic sand. I loathe the stuff.

Also, some types of plasticine leave a sort of oily, coloured residue everywhere…

What did this person say???

junebirthdaygirl · 30/08/2022 18:26

A box with about a 1000 different coloured beads especially one where everything spills out every time you open it!!

Astrid01 · 30/08/2022 18:27

I second make your own slime. That stuff went everywhere!
Perhaps you could do a gift basket selection of all the messiest things you can find that the 8yo will love 😄

labazslovesliving · 30/08/2022 18:27

I would say must contain glitter but something like playdoh is murder trampled into the carpet!

Stopdropnroll · 30/08/2022 18:28

Jelli baff. If we ever have any in future it'll be done in the paddling pool outside instead of in the actual bathroom where she managed to flick it all over the bathroom. She LOVED it though and still talks about it 3 yrs on!

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 18:28

What’s with the moon sand it doesn’t look that messy? (Which could be perfect, practicing my surprise/what a shame face already)

WorriedMillie · 30/08/2022 18:29

Yes to anything slime related. Anyone who bought something like that for my DD would be struck off the Christmas card list 🤣🤣

YesItsMeIDontCare · 30/08/2022 18:29

Fimo is also good. Not massively messy, but you do need to go through the rigmarole of protecting a work area and then parents have to be roped in to bake it.

Messy and needs parental assistance 👍🏻

krj260888 · 30/08/2022 18:29

Jelli baff, glitter, playdoh, slime, gloop, sand,

Or a recorder

Karwomannghia · 30/08/2022 18:30

Slime is by far the worst. Kinetic sand can be hoovered but slime stains and sticks.

WhoWants2Know · 30/08/2022 18:31

GelliBaff. It's a powder that you put into your bath to turn it to a sort of jelly. There's another sachet that supposedly dissolves it. I say supposedly because it didn't work in my case. I was left with a lurid coloured bath full of some sort of lumpy gravyish gunk that didn't go down the drain. Highly recommend if you want to annoy someone.

Use Mega Value Baff Pack from Zimpli Kids, 4 x Gelli Baff, 2 x Slime Baff & 6 x Crackle Baff, Children's Sensory & Bath Toy, Certified Biodegradable Gift amzn.eu/d/bBupjJW

Oh fuck yeah it's messy. It's impossible to keep in the tray and gets trodden into everything.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 18:35

@UpToMyElbowsInDiapers on this occasion DH was saying how he’d noticed how great our usual cleaner was, because she was on hol and the new lady was good but not great and she said ‘You need to actually tidy before she can clean’. We weren’t even in our sodding house so she’s no idea what it looks like.

On other occasions she’s said ‘I just can’t relax like Reluctant can unless it’s tidy’ whilst tidying her mum’s house after dinner etc and on several occasions when we’ve discussed changes to our period property (extension etc) has said ‘maybe just give it a really deep clean too’.

No one else thinks our house is dirty/untidy and my family would tell me if so! We have 2 under 2 and both work FT out of house. She has one older child and works PT from her home which is always absolutely immaculate- a magnolia palace. She’s just bought a new build which is now a grey palace do is getting more chopsticks and foolishly mistaking me not reacting for me not hearing or being too stupid to respond.

Loving the hamper idea with slime and sand. A heady blend and perfect for new carpets.

Especially since their DC is both artistically and academically gifted unlike our two dullards 🙄

We received a make your own stress balls/squidgees, which involved attempting to fill balloons with flour and deflating the air from the balloon without losing the flour. It was extremely difficult for a dexterous adult but nigh on impossible for an 8 year old child. So either the parent will have to help with the most frustrating task known to man (funnelling flour into the neck of a balloon anyone?) or they can leave it to their child and have a snow covered house. Win win.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 18:39

*so is getting more chopsy. I’ve no issue with the amount of chopsticks she has. Probably a perfect grey set. That her kid uses adeptly

Hama beads should do the trick.

ReluctantCourier · 30/08/2022 18:40

Moonsand appears to have been discontinued in the uk which bodes v well indeed

Right now I'm saying aquabeads after DD managed to open the tray upside down at the weekend, took hours to pick up and I'm still finding them.
Or a make your own bathbomb kit which seemed to involve half the powder ending up over the table even with adult help, and then left a lovely pink rim around the bath.
