Just touched down I'm Denmark, gone to rent the car and DP just realised his license photo-card has expired. Public transport not an option due to location as where we're staying requires a car. I only have provisional license.

Any one got any experience? Worth begging the DVLA? Sad

Not the point but please tell me he is entering the international tree climbing championships

passmesonetea · 26/08/2022 11:30

Great news
We need to know how DP gets on
Good luck!

Can you get a taxi to the accommodation and hire bikes to get around locally?

Good luck with the competition. Need to know what it is now.

DogInATent · 26/08/2022 11:40

FYI
You can verify/share your driving licence status using the DVLA website:
www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Good luck to him! Let us know how he gets on!!

Diplidocus4 · 26/08/2022 11:51

Good Luck !!!

BobISMyUncle · 26/08/2022 11:53

It can be done online. You can print off the confirmation and they send you a new licence in the post. It's how I did mine last year. I was surprised to see my new passport photo on there! Hope this helps, and enjoy your holiday!

Oldcottoneye · 26/08/2022 11:59

What is he competing in? Best of luck to him.
I understand if it's outing and you don't want to say.

Cleaningismycardio · 26/08/2022 11:59

Glad all on track now. Wishing your husband lots of luck. Come back on OP and tell us how he did!!

balalake · 26/08/2022 12:10

Good luck with the event.

I'm sure no official document your DH has will ever expire and not be renewed on time in future.

susan12345678 · 26/08/2022 12:10

Glad all's well op. Funnily enough, this happened to me in Italy last week, too... The photo card and expired & the paper version still has my old address on it, so neither was technically valid. Luckily, although the man at the counter noticed & pointed this out, he added that was going to pretend to be 'a donkey' and ignore it.

Dixiechickonhols · 26/08/2022 12:14

I renewed mine last week online. Did it Sunday and it came tues or weds. So potentially someone could pick it up and send it you. Was £14 uses your passport photo.

whynotwhatknot · 26/08/2022 12:16

Cantgetbackagain · 26/08/2022 10:33

Have you tried to renew it since?
I’m not sure a ‘well I knew it had expired but I’ve been waiting for them to tell me to renew it officer’ will wash. It’s a pretty hefty fine.

yep i was going t o say this. its your responsibility to make sure its in date not theirs you had an extra 6 months already

Skiphopbump · 26/08/2022 12:18

You can’t renew an expired photo card online - it’s a pain as you you need to fill in a paper form and send in a photo.

@naughtymonkey my card expired last year and and even then it was after the extension granted by the government. Your photo card has expired so you need to get a form to renew. I didn’t receive a letter telling me to renew and I think many people were the same.

Lunde · 26/08/2022 12:18

Just remember that if you are stopped by the police there is a fine for not physically having your driving licence with you

Etinoxaurus · 26/08/2022 12:19

Wonderful, phew!!

Alldelicious · 26/08/2022 12:20

Anyone else Googling what's going on in Denmark this weekend?

In the UK? Wonder when that rule came in. It always used to be you had 7 days to show your documents at the police station, if you were pulled over and someone wanted to see them.

Ouchiebum · 26/08/2022 12:26

I had the exact same experience this summer but in Sweden. I’d booked through a third party who had given my booking to another company, who’d given it to someone else. I was stood at the car hire desk with two kids, all our stuff, ready for a family holiday 5.5 hours drive away. They did not give me a car. Really surprised (and glad) to learn that there is no consistency in response to this from car hire companies.
hope your husband does well in his competition

Not true. You have 7 days to produce it.

MrsMitford3 · 26/08/2022 12:30

well now you need to tell us the event so we can cheer for him

off to google sporting events in denmark

Oh thank the lord we have a car. So so relieved. I honestly though DP was going to cry when he first realised it was expired and he NEVER cries. He's the second oldest man in the competition and I know it means an awful lot to him. Hurrah hurrah hurrah.

What made them to change their mind about letting you have the car, I wonder?

Trudij123 · 26/08/2022 12:37

That’s awesome - very very good luck to him, have a great time!!

Yes, I understood that too. It was known as a 7 day wonder.
