Disney Plus doing Jilly Cooper's Rivals

This is just the best news. I've been waiting for an adaptation of Rivals since I first fell in love with the bounder Rupert C-B in circa 1997.

But the question is who will play him? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fill those boots - any suggestions?

Absolutely agree... Didn't agree with her having Rupert cheat on Taggie!!

Before I read Mount!' I thought I would hate Rupert cheating on Taggie, but I kind of get it. We have a character that has been the top of his game his whole life (the most handsome man in England) , then he reaches 60 and he's having some sort of crisis. It's not pretty, but understandable. Ultimately his love for Taggie and realisation that he's being a shit bring him to his senses but I think Jilly did a great job with Mount!!

I didn’t think what happened to Billie or Rupert was unrealistic either but it’s difficult to have a favourite ‘redeemed’ character do that.

I quite enjoyed Mount - I will always prefer the earlier ones but it was better than a couple of her more recent ones. I’m always going to buy whatever she writes, frankly.

Same. I really didn't like Appassionata but plodded on anyway as I just love her. As it's likely to be the last, I do hope that Tackle is one of her better ones.

I’d certainly buy it all for all of the happy hours the earlier ones have given me. Part of the appeal is the fantasy late 70s/80s setting,
i can see why JC feels football still has some of that people behaving badly in fun ways about it. Fingers crossed!

I loved appasionata but rivals will always be my best book. Exciting to hear a new book coming but I’m not sure I’m over Gala 😡

Danny Dyer looks good as Freddie, I'm not sure I'm getting Emily Atack as Sarah - the hair etc is not how I imagined it at all but hopefully it'll be better when the images are moving rather than still.

Emily Atack is not at all how Sarah is described in the book.

I disagree that Danny Dyer is perfect. Freddie Jones is meant to be jolly with red-gold curls. Danny Dyer is neither of those things!

Really hard to get it all right - I don’t mind Emily Atack as Sarah, except the way she’s done up in these photos she doesn’t look glamorous enough? Freddie is going to depend on the acting - loving Valerie’s get up

I finished it a couple of days ago - I thought it was better than the last couple but not as good as her earlier ones.

Anyone know when this will be out? I am so disappointed by some of the casting decisions :(
