Disney Plus doing Jilly Cooper's Rivals

This is just the best news. I've been waiting for an adaptation of Rivals since I first fell in love with the bounder Rupert C-B in circa 1997.

But the question is who will play him? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who can fill those boots - any suggestions?

Blobby - that was Matthew Goode and he has been mentioned But that film is at least a decade old so he'll need to play an older character.

I am so excited for this. I just hope the casting is on point. Rupert is going to be tough to cast.
I think Katie McGrath would make a gorgeous Taggie but I think she is in her late 30's so difficult to pull of a shy 19 year old.

Juno Temple would make a wonderful Valerie, teeny tiny and a soooo good in Ted Lasso. Would be good to see her play a very different character.

I have to say they have managed to book some ridiculously gorgeous actors (women & men) for this.

Aidan Turner - Jake maybe? 🧐

I wish it said who they are all playing! I know David Tennant is Tony Baddingham and Alex Hassell is RCB. Can’t quite picture either of them in the roles to be honest but will give them a chance. Aidan Turner as Declan is excellent casting if they age him up slightly.

Danny Dyer as Freddie is genius!

Victoria Smurfit is a bit old for Maud if Aidan Turner is Declan. Love Katherine Parkinson as Lizzie. Haven’t heard of the Caitlin actress but she looks perfect.

This is great casting! I love Victoria Smurfit, she’ll be a fab Maud. Emily Atack is an excellent Sarah and I like that they’ve made Cameron black. I actually pictured her Asian (a Lucy Liu when young) but the actor they’ve got for her looks great too.

They’re going to have to do some work with Alex Hassell - he’s nice to look at but he’s NOTHING like I picture Rupert (who I basically picture as Rupert Penry Jones, yes I know he’s too old but still…)

I am a bit worried about Alex Hassell but will reserve judgment until I’ve seen him in full RCB mode. They’d better have dyed his hair blond!
