Only got to the beach one day. Most days out were to the park. A few days at soft play, a trip to the zoo and one to a farm. Oh and one nights camping with friends.

There's been lots of watching TV and sitting around the house bored too.

herecomesthsun · 24/08/2022 10:07

Went away for a little staycation to see granny.

Cathedral, outdoor museum, castle visits.

Cooking interesting recipes together then eating them in the garden.

Music and dance workshops / course

Outdoor theatre visit.

Watched new DVDs together as they don't seem to want to go to the cinema.

Gardening project together

Music festivals (little local ones that were effectively free or close to it)

lots of boardgames -we have a big table under a gazebo in the garden

online art class booked for tonight

mostly chilling at home

GoneWithTheWine1 · 24/08/2022 10:11

Space summer club. art summer club.

Lots of different walks and parks.

Cinema.

A few open days like fire station. Police station.

That's about it. It's been quite a chilled out one.

Holiday for two weeks
Three nights away with family who live on the beach
One night away with other side of family who live on another beach
Couple of family days out
Couple of days chilling out at home in paddling pool
Five days in summer school for starting Y7
A week to go and we'll go swimming, possibly to the cinema and they have a day out to another beach with granny and grandad.

It has gone incredibly quickly.

purpledagger · 24/08/2022 10:15

We had a weeks holiday abroad, which I regard as our 'main' event.

Also done a few smaller things -local museum, cinema, sleep over with friends, park.

Normally, I like to do lots with the children on the weekends or when I take the day off work, but this year, I feel exhausted.

crymeout · 24/08/2022 10:18

Have a 5&3 year old but in Scotland so they're already back at school/nursery.

We did:

Soft play a few times (big one)
Beach once
Cinema trip for 5yo (one of us went with them)
Lots of walks with picnics
Arts and crafts days when it rained
Edinburgh Zoo

foghead · 24/08/2022 10:20

We've done lots of walks and bike rides.
Went to central London for a wander around Covent Garden, parks and saw a theatre show (cheap seats)
Another day went to Greenwich
Stayed at Grandmas.
Fish and chips by the sea
A day out at a wildlife park
A few days in a cottage in the countryside

Libelula21 · 24/08/2022 10:28

It’s been a nice mix of chilled out and fun. But at the same time it’s also been a strain.

A few sessions of parkour, and a tennis camp.

Some play dates and kids’ birthday parties

To the pool a few times, and the beach.

Hanging out with granny and grandad.

One short camping trip.

Both fast and slow. Relieved it’s over.

LadyCatStark · 24/08/2022 11:54

I’ve been working a holiday job this summer where I take children with disabilities on days out. One thing I’ve noticed is a distinct lack of other children at any paid activities and in cafes. There’s plenty of children at the beach and park which is no bad thing but a sad indication of the times.

We haven’t done as much as usual but we’ve been paddleboarding a lot, DS went to army cadet camp for 10 days, we went to Edinburgh for the tattoo for a few days, we went skiing/ snowboarding at Chill Factor and to the Imperial War Museum. We’ve been out for lunch a few times with my parents and for lots of dog walks and to the beach which is very nearby. We need to go shopping for back to school supplies, more paddleboarding and sailing with my sister and nieces. All in all, not a bad summer I guess but I do feel bad that most of DS’s friends seem to have been on multiple foreign holidays 😭.

Casarossa · 24/08/2022 12:05

Kids have spent most weekends playing outside in the sand while we are renovating. I feel terrible about this but we're very near the end and need to put all our time into it to get it over the line.

We got to the beach twice.

8yo went to 3 summer camps (were in Ireland so hes been off since 3rd week in June).

Were going abroad tomorrow for a week and I cant wait to give the kids the time and attention they deserve for this full week.

Me and DH are both working FT too and the summer has jusy flown by.

We did two weeks holiday (our only time all together in the year really as DH does nights and weekends and I do days) right at the start.
DS(8) has done 2x3 day football camp
DD(13) has met friends a handful of times
Some days out with friends at parks
Some trips to see football games
A sleepover at their aunties
An afternoon at an outdoor pool

I thought we'd done loads but now wondering if I should try to fit another day out in before life takes over

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 24/08/2022 13:36

Tea parties x 2
Family film nights + 1 cinema trip
5 day holiday in England
Farm trips x 2
Family fun days run by local council x 2

HearMeSnore · 24/08/2022 13:37

A week at the seaside
A week staying with my family
A weekend with DH's family (which incorporated DD's birthday)
Two play dates (another one coming up on Sunday)
A couple of meals out
DH and I have no more time off so DD will be spending most of the next week either glued to a screen or playing with the neighbour kids. Pretty much what I did for most of my school holidays...

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 24/08/2022 13:40

Also eating out at restaurants a few times

Hoping to fit in a couple of nights camping.

FreezyFreezy · 24/08/2022 13:51

Nothing. The dc have played out with friends and that's it. No money = no fuel, no daytrips or holidays, no takeaways and no special meals.

DeadButDelicious · 24/08/2022 13:53

Somehow DD ended up with almost 8 weeks off this summer so we have been busy bees! We've been to the town centre a few times and the local museum. The cinema, the seaside, the zoo, Jodrell Bank and the World Museum.

Plus loads of visits to the park and soft play. We've got a birthday party tomorrow and to the zoo again on Friday. After that I've got one more week to fill and then I shall be happily depositing her at school and going home to sit in silence whilst staring at the wall for a bit. I'm bloody knackered. 😂

DeadButDelicious · 24/08/2022 13:59

Oh and the farm! That was pleasant in the heat 😂. And she's had a weekend sleepover at her Nan's.

TheRookie · 24/08/2022 14:03

We are in Scotland so holidays finished a couple of weeks ago now but we went to a couple of castles, a farm, a couple of summer fun days, air show, swimming, a music festival for a day, saw friends, multiple playgrounds and beaches, strawberry picking, and a weekend away to the safari park! We have fit loads in!

Festoonlights · 24/08/2022 14:04

Two weeks in France driving holiday
paddleboarding
cinema
friends over for play dates
swimming
beach
sleepovers
festivals
granny visit
week in U.K. camping
surfing
home work
sewing
helping me with housework!!

missverstaendnis · 24/08/2022 14:06

Doesn't feel like we have done that much in comparison to summers when we used to be able to go abroad.

-both kids went on residentials during last week of term
-lots of sleepovers (hosted and attended)
-couple of days out at a nice sandy beach a bit further away to our local pebble one
-cinema
-meals out
-shopping trip
-swimming pool and inflatable obstacle course
-few all day/ late BBQs at friends/ at home having friends over

few days a week of doing nothing/ me WFH half the holiday

skint.skint.skint now. can't wait for September...

tortoishellclub · 24/08/2022 14:09

Few trips up and down to the caravan. Beach days. Alton towers. But lots of days at home playing with friends, chillin, making buns, bike rides

They seem happy enough and the summer has flown in
