Are you addicted to Diet Coke like I am?

I drink a lot of Diet Coke. I am the first to admit that but it always seems that I am the only one!

I mean I know I can’t be because otherwise it wouldn’t be sold literally everywhere…

I’d say on average I drink 2 cans a day. Maybe that’s not loads but I have to restrict myself. Otherwise I could probably drink it by the litre daily, first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

Anyone else have a love for Diet Coke?

I drink MINIMUM 6 cans a day. Prob closer to 8.or 9 if i was honest.
Have since a teen.

It used to be up to 12 a day.

I know i need to cut down and i do occasionally. I'd save loads too.

Same here. I've started buying it in 2l bottles to and I typically go through one a day and sometimes open another.
Have been drinking it at this rate for close to 30 years.

For those asking about tooth enamel. I have no fillings so it can't be doing me any harm on that front.

I can't believe people can drink so much fizzy drink. It’s mind boggling to think of the effect it must be having on your bodies and health. I can’t fathom how you can actually DRINK that much liquid. You must feel like bloated balloons. So so bad for you.

I drink tap water mainly. More than two mouthfuls of that stuff is too much for me. Small wonder people are obese.

Cam22 · 24/08/2022 12:20

That stuff being fizzy rubbish.

Me too. I cut down to 1x 250ml can per day when I was pregnant, but now back up to maybe 2-3x 330ml cans a day. I'd like to cut down but I really struggle with water (well aware I sound like a child!). It's one of life's simple, easy pleasures for me so there's little incentive to cut it out completely at the mo.

Really dislike Coke Zero though and struggled recently in Italy, apparently most of Europe just has zero now instead of diet?!

@Cam22

Clue was in the title. DIET Coke. 😂

It does not make you obese.

ShesNotTheMessiah · 24/08/2022 12:25

I used to be. It was a running joke in the family and I even had a small fridge pretty much dedicated to cans of it.

I started trying to up my water intake and, as I did so, I drank less and less coke until I stopped altogether just because I never wanted it anymore.

Every now and again I think a can might be nice but then when I actually think about drinking it, I don't fancy it.

Antarcticant · 24/08/2022 12:26

I used to be, but stopped when I realised I was doing neither my body nor my wallet any favours. We have lovely tap water in my area so I drink that at home instead.

Actually there is a theory that the sweet taste can affect your insulin resistance, so the poster's comment is valid.

I'm amazed so many people are like this. I've never enjoyed coke or any fizzy drinks. I'd only ever drink one if I was thirsty and there was no other choice. The idea of drinking a can of fizzy drink out of choice baffles me.

What is with people on mumsnet who have this bizarrely narrow world view to the point they are literally amazed and baffled that anyone does or likes anything that they personally do not like.

I don’t like coffee. I’m not standing gawping in shock that other people like coffee.

Robinkitty · 24/08/2022 12:28

I’m addicted to fizzy drinks. Trying to save money so I usually just drink lemonade out of the bottle as I can get through multiple cans of they are in. I’ve been like this since a teen and think it’s related to my disordered eating.
my teeth and fine at the moment and I rarely get bloated.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/08/2022 12:29

I've switched to the caffeine free and that's nice too. Diet Coke is the best drink, though.

Oblomov22 · 24/08/2022 12:32

Love Diet Coke. I drink as much as I can get away with without Dh saying anything. Often a can per day. Sometimes not for days , then 2 or 3.

I doubt that.

Oblomov22 · 24/08/2022 12:33

I drink tonnes of water, tea, green tea, hot water and lemon, aswell.

Bigoldhag · 24/08/2022 12:33

I did, but ive been clean for about 10 weeks now. I ised to drink 3-4 cans a day. It ruined my teeth and was a bitch to withdrawal from. It sounds dramatic but i genuinely was addicted. I’m now looking at paying thousands for dental work (its combined with other factors, but coke is deffo the primary one).

There's no calories in Diet Coke and if two mouthfuls of tap water are too much for you you must be peeing orange string!

abovedecknotbelow · 24/08/2022 12:36

@Cam22 sorry take that back, thought you me and two mouthfuls of water not fizzy!

monicagellerbing · 24/08/2022 12:39

@Cam22 unclench luv you'll feel better

NCHammer2022 · 24/08/2022 12:40

I can take it or leave it but DH drinks the equivalent of at least 2 cans of Pepsi max a day. As vices go it could be a lot worse but I do wish he’d cut down (if nothing else, so we didn’t have so many 2 litre plastic bottles in our recycling bin!)

miserablecat · 24/08/2022 12:43

Yes, I prob have 3-4 cans a day. I've been addicted for probably 25+ years Blush
It seems to quench my thirst more than anything else

Squashedraddish · 24/08/2022 12:46

Me! I love it. I have 2 cans a day. I could easily drink more but don’t let myself. I don’t smoke, rarely drink alcohol so don’t feel too

Squashedraddish · 24/08/2022 12:49

Pressed post too soon! I don’t feel too bad but I know I need to drink more water

Bedtimeforever · 24/08/2022 12:54

Ah I was like this with normal coke, so I’ve now made the jump to Diet coke. It doesn’t quite hit the same, but it works and yes, I limit myself at 1 a day, but could quite easily have 2-3. Had 3-4 vimto/irn bru on sunday 😳 i felt incredibly guilty afterwards

QuebecBagnet · 24/08/2022 12:56

Same. Apart from one cup of coffee every day it’s all I drink. My teeth are wrecked, I think it gives me sugar cravings as I think my body reacts to the sweetness even though it’s sugar free.

Staters · 24/08/2022 12:57

ButterfliesandMoths · 23/08/2022 22:40

Pepsi cherry max for me. I really have to limit myself or I'll just drink it all day.
I want to stop drinking it as I know it's not good for me but I can't.

Same, Pepsi cherry Max for me.
Managed to restrict myself to 1 can a day most days but occasionally 2 if it’s around ovulation/period time.
