Restaurants in London for a special birthday. Recommendations?

My DD1 is turning 30 soon. We are planning a weekend in London to celebrate but is at short notice due to a number of things that could not have been foreseen. It will be the first Sunday in September and lots of posh restaurants seem to be shut on a Sunday. Has anyone got any thoughts on places which are likely to have space (lunch or dinner) and that are very special? Thank you.

Currently we are looking at Brat in Shoreditch. Has anyone been?

Zedel’s. Always and forever - and open for lunch on Sundays.

stuntbubbles · 13/08/2022 16:15

Ooh, or Bob Bob Ricard in Soho which is open for dinner too. “Press for champagne” is always special!

We have been there loads of times and love it but it's not for this trip. My DD has just split up from her DP and that is somewhere they went for one of her birthdays early in their relationship. Too raw I think.

That's closed on a Sunday.

Hawksmoor at 7 Dials in Covent Garden if you are meat eaters. Impeccable service, great food, open 12 - 9pm Sundays.

Sushi samba?

Roka, for brunch? The Wolsely, or, an oldie but a goodie, Quaglinos?

hawksmoor.com

mimbleandlittlemy · 13/08/2022 16:23

Helpful iPad. www.thehawksmoor.com Hopefully that works.

mimbleandlittlemy · 13/08/2022 16:24

No. That link doesn’t work either. Sorry. Google Hawksmoor.

The Wolseley do afternoon tea on Sundays.

Gymkhana (Michelin star Indian) have a decent value lunch menu.

Hakkasan do a very good value menu which includes a cocktail and three courses for about £40.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/08/2022 16:26

Have heard good things about brunch at Roka, as mentioned below.

Trishna in Marylebone, if they're open on a Sunday. Tasting menu was amazing.

Classicblunder · 13/08/2022 16:30

I really like Clos Maggiore

IggyAce · 13/08/2022 16:31

I can recommend afternoon tea at the Wolsley. I recently took my dd for her 16th and they made it special.

KohLanta · 13/08/2022 16:31

Sketch? (For the decor)
Duck & Waffle for the views?

IggyAce · 13/08/2022 16:32

Megan’s on the highstreet (Kensington) was lovely, not sure if there open Sundays.

Rugbycomet · 13/08/2022 16:35

We went to Amazonico. It was fab. Ambience was amazing. Buzzy and quite quirky. Thoroughly recommend. The service was excellent too! Go for the main dining room. Something on the menu for everyone. We are all desperate to go back it was that good.

Rugbycomet · 13/08/2022 16:35

Oopss. The food is excellent too!

The Landmark in Marylebone do an amazing champagne Sunday buffet, it's just lovely and the food and limitless champagne is great 😀

For those who don’t know…

You get to choose your main course from the normal menu, get “unlimited” wine (they pour for you, so in practice you can’t get through a glass every five minutes for the three hours you are there), and unlimited food from the buffet, which is excellent. Very high quality sushi and other Japanese / fusion dishes.

Great fun, very stylish, and pretty good value too.

DD2 cannot eat beef so a steak place is out. Thank you for your suggestion.

We have booked Brat as it is right up DD1's street food wise. Thank you to everyone who has commented.

My grandfather always used to take people to the Savoy Grill for special birthdays. They are open on Sundays, but ££££.

Do please report back. It's meant to be great, but I'm a fussy vegetarian and am scared of booking places that don't issue a menu in advance, in case I can't eat anything!
