Please recommend me your air fryers, for a family of 2 adults and 2 children - I am looking to be able to cook things in it instead of the oven

Thanks

I've just ordered a Ninja Max as there was a money saving expert offer. Can't wait to get using it as everyone seems so impressed by air fryers and I'm late to the party!

This thread is a couple of weeks old so guessing that its a bit late to post, but I have the Ninja Foodi MAX Health Grill & Air Fryer AG551UK and I love it. It has a meat temperature probe which is great for spatchcocked chickens and joints and all the various cooking methods.

I also liked the one which looks a bit like a pressure cooker but it didn't have such a large surface area for cooking.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 19/08/2022 20:00

I said I would update after a bit more use of the Costco one and so far it’s been great

jacket potatoes, soft inside but lovely crisp skin, toasted sandwiches came out fantastic. Tonight I did homemade wedges for adults and curly fries for DC and they were all well cooked inside but crisp on the outside

May try roast potatoes this weekend and a roast in the second drawer (quorn) which I normally marinate

Watching with interest - could do with one suitable for two people but haven't had a chance to do any research yet!

There's 2 of us and I got a smaller 1 drawer one as didnt want to spend loads on one if I didn't use it much. Now wish I'd got a bigger one as prefer it to the oven. Great for cooking steak, burgers, nuggets, garlic bread etc. I'd say get the biggest you can afford or have room for

Haffiana · 19/08/2022 20:18

I would also say get the biggest that you can. Lots of things need the space for turning or tossing, even if there is only one person using it.

I grilled four huge fresh corn on the cobs in my Ninja Foodi Grill tonight, and that is actually not much corn at all. It will comfortably do two whole head-on trout or a whole roast chicken - a smaller one wouldn't even fit one fish in.

I think if you get a big one you won't be limited to nuggets and chips type meals.

I have the Ninja af400. It has 2 drawers and is amazing!

I have the same one. Love it!

OneFrenchEgg · 20/08/2022 09:19

Just marking my place. I'm not a very adventurous cook, but we do all eat separately and I use the oven for small things like chips and quorn fillets for two or a jacket potato for two - would the air fryer cut costs/time?
We have a small ancient one I use for chips at the moment, never tried anything else.

Workyticket · 20/08/2022 10:32

Place marking to read later.

Do any of your kids use them? Ds is going into secondary school soon and will be home alone for an hour or so a couple of times a week (no after school club)

It would be great if he could pop himself something in as I'm not keen on him using the oven yet.

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 20/08/2022 15:18

If you use any oil please don't use frylight (or store equivalents) Over time it really damages the non-stick properties of your fryer and becomes a bugger to clean - learned this from past experience.

I have the Instant 6-in-1 Vortex Plus 5.7L Air Fryer and love it.

Haffiana · 20/08/2022 16:57

The Ninja Foodi Grill fryers are made from proper enamelled/ceramic metal, not non-stick...

That said, I wouldn't eat frylight anyway, too many chemicals. I use a spray bottle and pure avocado oil.

JudgeRindersMinder · 21/08/2022 17:25

@Chevyimpala67 do NOT USE FRYLIGHT FOR ANYTHING!!
I know SW recommend it, but it knackers the surface of anything it comes into contact with-and that’s be for you even think what it does to your insides if it does that to metal

RayneDance · 21/08/2022 17:34

50 Costco.

I'm so impressed with it I hardly ever use the oven, the large oven seems clumsy in comparison and yet that was a best buy.

I might look for a ninja or something that does even more next.

I love it be however, one thing that didn't work for me was a roast chicken

Fudgemonkeys · 22/08/2022 13:01

Thinking of buying one great thread!

maddy68 · 22/08/2022 13:02

Love my ninja

Belindabelle · 23/08/2022 16:23

@Tomnooktoldmeto took the plunge and went for the Costco Sur laTable one too.

Early days but sausages and chicken thighs have been great. Bacon not as good.

Really easy to clean, looks good and doesn’t take up too much space as I put it in a corner.

instructions fairly straightforward to understand though I could t get it to sync properly at first. This was down to me though and not the fryer.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 23/08/2022 16:58

@Belindabelle I think it’s just trial and error at first with these things, I’ve just received some racks today that allow you to double layer, one also has grooves for kebabs along with 4 kebab skewers which I plan to try fairly soon

So far I’ve done Jacket potatoes in 40 mins, homemade spicy wedges in 20 mins and the usual reheating

Im doing an Indian buffet at the weekend for DD’s birthday so looking forward to using it for bhajiis etc

when I get to ikea I plan to pick up some of their 365 range which should fit for Lasagna etc

quiteathome · 23/08/2022 17:43

I am thinking about an airfryer, do you think the AF400 saves much power compare to using the oven?

quiteathome · 23/08/2022 17:44

Also like the look of the one that is also a pressure cooker. I had an instant pot- but would like something that does the air fry function as well

Belindabelle · 23/08/2022 17:57

@quiteathome I think they do save money as they use less energy and are quicker than the oven too.

@Tomnooktoldmeto would you mind telling me where you got the racks from? They sound ideal. Do you think we could do lasagna in the basket if you took out the grill thing? Never thought of that.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 23/08/2022 21:06

@Belindabelle I got the racks and also some rectangular silicone liners from Amazon

I plan on doing Lasagna in the Pyrex dishes from IKEA, I’ve measured and they should fit.

My longer term plan as I’m a bit of a prepper is to make and freeze a few dishes because they have clip on lids , as I will be having surgery at some point and DH is lovely but not a cook

SoupDragon · 23/08/2022 21:55

I have the same racks. I found that the bottom layer didn't cook as well as the top layer so you needed to rotate. I guess the top layer blocked the lower one. I was doing sausages (which turned out brilliantly in the end!)
