Please recommend me your air fryers, for a family of 2 adults and 2 children - I am looking to be able to cook things in it instead of the oven

Thanks

Will the ninja with two drawers cook a full roast chicken?

amicissimma · 09/08/2022 23:11

There are two Ninjas with two drawers: the smaller AF300 and the larger AF400.

We have the smaller one as there are only two of us. We've not had it long and are feeling our way with the timings. I think it is more like the oven than we expect, so jacket potatoes work better being partially done in the microwave, just as they do in the oven.

I'd say it is quicker than the oven and so much easier to clean. But I'd also say that two drawers are essential, otherwise you'd be needing to do one component of the meal in the oven or the hob while using the Ninja.

Today's triumph: corn on the cob. Much nicer than boiling or grilling. A whole cob, trimmed leaving enough stalk to hold, fitted in the drawer while I cooked garlic prawns in the other drawer. Both ready at the same time thanks to the cunning 'sync' function.

Thanks for this thread, I'm currently looking at the Ninja foodi pro max grill vs. the Ninja 15-in-1 multi cooker and can't decide which would be best for us as a family of 5.

Does anyone have any thoughts on which would be best please? I'm thinking the 15-in-1 as it does pressure cooking and slow cooking as well...

marshmallowbooks · 10/08/2022 11:12

@HappyBackHome if you can afford it, get both. We have the 7 in 1 and now saving for either the foodi grill or the dual basket ninja. We use the 7 in 1 everyday but if I'm slow cooking/making soup etc you then can't cook your chips/meat etc in it so definitely space for another!

HappyBackHome · 10/08/2022 11:38

Thank you ☺️. Unfortunately I can’t afford/justify buying both right now so will probably go for the 15-in-1 and save up for the other one!

Yes it does, I do it regularly, and did a 2kg+ Chicken last weekend

Hercules12 · 11/08/2022 08:32

Sorry to jump on board the thread but what would people recommend for me? doing slimming world so one that suits this diet- veg, meat without fat etc and would primarily be fine for one person although sometimes 2 so not too small. Don’t want to spend more than £100.
Thanks!

Can I just ask, does your air fryer smell?

I'm so tempted (and have recently won a little money on the work lottery so even more tempted) but I'm afraid that it might make the house smell like an old style fryer 😬

SunflowerSmith · 11/08/2022 08:58

I love the Ninjas and bought the 9 in 1 but soon found I needed another one so then bought the xl grill.

We're a family of 4 and while the machines themselves are really big I don't think the actual cooking area itself is that big.
There have been many times when I need to cook two things separately for instance steak in the grill and veg or chips in the 9 in 1.
They do cook beautifully though and much quicker than the oven plus you don't need to wait for them to warm up.

I haven't used my oven in 2 years now but do still use the hob.

General rule.is deduct 10 degrees and reduce cooking time by 5-10%,

So, is the main advantage that it cooks things a bit faster than the oven?

plus it's smaller and more economical than the oven. Especially where you wouldn't be using the whole oven. That's why I got one.

Does your oven smell?

an air fryer is badly named TBH. It's closer to a small fan oven. There is no frying involved.

The ninja Af100. Perfect size for two people, doesn't hog counter space, best item in my kitchen at the mo.

Chevyimpala67 · 11/08/2022 18:34

Well..its arrived!!
Its still in its box but I was wondering if you had any recommendations for food that is healthy ish and cooks quickly?
Thanks 😊

Haffiana · 11/08/2022 19:05

I researched this for days before buying. I went with the Ninja AG301 because it is all enamelled metal and no plastic. It has sufficient height that you can easily take a whole chicken (the Ninja Max can't unless you spatchcock it, the Ninja Max pro looks a bit of a design disaster if you look at YouTube videos). You can roast as well as air fry, and you can actually air grill items such as a sirloin steak. And also use it as a dehydrator...

It is the most used item in the kitchen bar the kettle!. We actually rarely eat chips or sausages or anything like that, but I did whole trout in it yesterday, grilled asparagus takes 6 minutes, roasted sweet potato and onion with a bit of chilli, kale crisps etc etc all are a doddle.

If you are on a low fat diet (I am the opposite as I low carb) then invest in a really good oil sprayer.

I use frylight or olive oil
Assuming that's OK?

We've just had the fajitas from the recipe booklet (without the spicy potatoes though).

ShinySquirrel · 11/08/2022 19:28

Frylight or olive oil would be fine. You might find you don't need either. I rarely use anything in mine unless I'm trying to get something really crispy.

We have the Ninja Dual Drawer AF400 and sometimes I think I love it more than my husband.

I have this. Life changing. Not used my oven since I got it. I had an Actifry before and it was shite. Put me off air fryers for years but this is just great!

I have this one too, bought it on prime day for £65. Don’t use my oven anymore

Tiggy321 · 11/08/2022 19:32

I just roasted peppers, garlic and chilli in mine and then added to pasta. Was lovely and so quick ! I literally cook everything in mine - think if it as a small oven rather than airfryer. Even made cakes in mine (check tins fit beforehand!!) Enjoy ! I definitely love mine more than my husband and kids Smile

That's the one I've got! :)
I really must open it and read the instructions tomorrow when it's less hot 😵‍💫

I got the grill after reading this thread. Love it already. Had a ninja with a drawer before and impossible to clean properly as the basket was inbuilt. Maybe jt wAs an early model and not like this now.
Love love love the grill/oven as you just remove the tray and wash!!

ThistlyPerf · 11/08/2022 21:19

My ninja 11 in 1 just arrived today. Oh my goodness, I have never had such a tender, juicy piece of chicken ever! With a crispy skin. I nearly gave up before I’d even started though with the bloody finnicky seal (apparently this is a thing) but so glad I persevered, and splashed out in the first place.

SmallSoupcon · 13/08/2022 17:35

I've been following this thread and obsessing about airfryers all summer! I need to save my pennies up to get one, but I can't decide if the large ninja 15-in-1 would be better, or the double drawer one.
Could any experienced Ninja lovers tell me the pros and cons? We have a family of 4. 2 fussy kids who eat mostly freezer food and 2 adults who tend to do their own thing for dinner.
I love cooking and am excited by the different functions of the 15-in-1. But 2 drawers sounds very practical...
