Please recommend me your air fryers, for a family of 2 adults and 2 children - I am looking to be able to cook things in it instead of the oven

Thanks

I've been following this thread and obsessing about airfryers all summer! I need to save my pennies up to get one, but I can't decide if the large ninja 15-in-1 would be better, or the double drawer one.
Could any experienced Ninja lovers tell me the pros and cons? We have a family of 4. 2 fussy kids who eat mostly freezer food and 2 adults who tend to do their own thing for dinner.
I love cooking and am excited by the different functions of the 15-in-1. But 2 drawers sounds very practical...

I would go for the two drawer option. It's more practical for family cooking.

Saying that, I have an Instant Pot that does everything else, so I'm not missing out on any functions. I suppose it depends what you'll mainly be using it for.

SoupDragon · 13/08/2022 20:10

I think the positives of having two drawers is that you can do two different parts of a meal at different temperatures for different time and also just use one if it's only a small meal. A negative would be that you can't fit something large in it.

Today it was just me and I had perfectly cooked salmon with sliced peppers in 8 minutes with no involvement from me once it was in.

i was sceptical before by buying one and held off for ages but now I'm sold on it

Can I just ask, does your air fryer smell?

I'm so tempted (and have recently won a little money on the work lottery so even more tempted) but I'm afraid that it might make the house smell like an old style fryer 😬

Not at all but I do wash the basket after each use

WildFlowerBees · 13/08/2022 20:46

Ninja 551 is brilliant! Wouldn't be without it now, haven't used the oven in weeks.

JasmineIndigo · 14/08/2022 08:24

We got the Ninja Foodi 14 in 1 a few weeks ago and haven't really used the oven since then. We are having our kitchen refurbed soon, and I've had a range cooker on my wishlist for years, but since we got the Foodi, I'm not sure we would even use one now, especially with the rise in gas etc prices.

Has Which magazine done a recent review of Air Fryers ?
What did they recommend please.
I'm not in the UK so a lot of Which isn't relevant for me hence I haven't taken out a subscription.
I'm not a cheapskate, honest.

Haffiana · 14/08/2022 16:00

Which ties the Ninja Foodi MAX AG551 Grill and the Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 in top place.

Having personally used the Foodi Max and the Foodi Grill AG301(which wasn't reviewed by Which) however, I prefer the AG301 because of the depth of the basket. You can look on Youtube for comparisons with those 3.

LadyEloise1 · 14/08/2022 16:18

Thank you @Haffiana

KittyCatsby · 15/08/2022 18:18

Has anyone got the Ninja 15 in 1 ? If so how do you find it ?

TankFlyBoss · 15/08/2022 18:52

Update from me, my foodi pro max has arrived and we have used it a few times - I am so impressed with it! Thank you to all for your helpful advice and suggestions.

Any recommendations for a family of 6 with different dietary requirements? I'm guessing one with 2 baskets will be best for this

doodleygirl · 15/08/2022 21:24

Can you cook more than one element of the meal in the same basket? If I had a single basket air fryer can I cook roast veg and salmon at the same time or do I need to cook the veg first and then the salmon?

Yes! I did a side of salmon with veggies in 1 tin and took 14 mins. Was absolutely lovely!

Battlecat98 · 15/08/2022 22:22

This thread so made me buy an airfryer but, I got the Tefal I do love it. I can see me using it constantly. Perhaps we need a recipe thread?

brownbeauty80 · 15/08/2022 22:25

doodleygirl · 16/08/2022 11:06

Has anyone bought the Costco air fryer, they do a single and double, prices are good

Gardenhelp21 · 16/08/2022 11:49

Hi,
I have just bought the Ninja AF400 on the back of this thread.
Does anyone use paper liners or silicone liners in yours to save on cleaning?
Thanks

Tomnooktoldmeto · 16/08/2022 12:03

@doodleygirl I got one last night, trying later

littlestowl · 16/08/2022 12:16

Such a helpful thread - could anyone recommend the best option for 1 adult, 2 kids size wise?

Drivebye · 16/08/2022 12:30

I have had my Ninja Foodi 15-1 for about 10 days now and am really impressed. I am still learning how to use it to be fair and am not finding many recipes that actually use it however am adapting. The key with something like this is to stick with it and try things.

On Sunday I cooked a leg of lamb marinated in olive oil, garlic, lemon, rosemary on a bed of new potatoes and red onion, it was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. I simply put the lamb on top of the potatoes and took it out when cooked and then cooked the potatoes slightly longer to roast them. Lamb took 40 minutes. Have also made

Deliciously moist carrot cake on steam bake
Have cooked steak using the probe - perfect
Potato wedges - way better than in my oven - airfry
Enchiladas - bake
Kids have heated chicken tenders etc.

could go on and on....

I bought the 15-1 in one because I want to do yoghurt and use it to prove and bake bread. I also want a slow cooker as love doing stuff like pulled pork.

The only negative so far is the capacity. Cooking a lot of wedges you would need to do in batches or keep turning. I couldn't cook a large pizza in it, the max size would be a pizza express small one.

I do find it cooks much quicker than a normal oven.

doodleygirl · 16/08/2022 12:37

@Tomnooktoldmeto which one did you get, single or double? Would love to hear your review

Tomnooktoldmeto · 16/08/2022 12:50

@doodleygirl I got the dual basket one, we had a mini one just to try before jumping in. Planning on jacket potatoes tonight and homemade spicy wedges tomorrow with chilli for adults and chips and dippers in the second basket for the teens. Will report back

Ive seen some excellent recipes on Pinterest, blooming onion is one DH would like me to try

Belindabelle · 16/08/2022 14:28

@Tomnooktoldmeto, what make is the Costco one please.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 16/08/2022 15:38

@Belindabelle its Sur La table, although I don’t know the brand I’m happy with Costco as a supplier and at £95 it’s quite a bit cheaper than some other dual basket ones

Do any of you use liners or racks in yours?

Felicity42 · 16/08/2022 17:56

If anyone's looking for a smaller one I recommend the Tower compact t17023 air fryer. Perfect for two people and would be so handy for a student.
