New thread as needed.

I wonder what new promises will come out this week?

Agree tobee.

Truss is literally just the female puppet (or muppet!) to replace the male one.

I can't believe they actually keep spouting crap about the past 12 years as though it wasn't under the Tory party.

the80sweregreat · 20/08/2022 22:16

This is the problem, Liz Truss won't really be in charge , Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees mogg etc will be pulling at the strings.
Nothing will change and the British public will just sit there and let it happen whilst trying to work out how to pay their bills.
Two more years.

I told my local (Tory) MP right from the start that Liz Truss is nothing more than a puppet for the ERG and that she doesn’t have the strength of character to stand up to them. She will say anything and everything that she thinks her audience on any given day wants to hear, hence the flip-flopping. It’s all nonsense, but very dangerous nonsense. My MP is supporting Rishi, but only because he’s the best of the two which isn’t saying much. Two more years indeed.

My political home is Labour but I’m considering voting tactically for the Lib Dems as they’ve challenged the historically strong Tory vote in this area in the past. We cannot let this shit show continue.

tobee · 20/08/2022 23:05

Hmm still not convinced Johnson will be arsed to pull anybody's strings. I would imagine he won't want to draw attention to himself sitting in the commons anywhere other than the PM's traditional spot for long.

Blossomtoes · 20/08/2022 23:28

I agree @tobee. What’s the betting he barely turns up in the Commons before the next election?

ilovesooty · 20/08/2022 23:38

I bet he's struggling to remember where his constituency is.

I see reports in The Times that universities are saying tuition fees should be more like £24,000. So that's going to really help everything.

tobee · 20/08/2022 23:44

And The Sunday Telegraph saying Truss will halt the nhs doctor exodus.

What’s she going to do? Lock them in the surgery?

Novum · 20/08/2022 23:52

It doesn't seem very clever leaving Gove and Javid on the back benches. Goodness knows there were few enough people with any brain cells in Johnson's cabinet, she can't afford to chuck them out, let alone have them outside the tent pissing in.

Make everyone pay £10 to visit the GP. That’ll cut down on demand and so reduce pressure on the system as those who can’t afford to pay won’t be able to see a doctor. Less stress for the administrative system all round.

It’s horrifying.

Carrying on the theme of the last few years

Boris’s actions are driven by the thought of what’s in it for him. No personal gain, no interest.

DuncinToffee · 21/08/2022 08:48

Reminder of who voted for sewage in water (70 Tory MPs either deliberately abstained or were absent for the vote, including Rishi Sunak, Liz Truss, Alok Sharma and Nadhim Zahawi.)

www.nationalworld.com/news/politics/how-did-my-mp-vote-on-sewage-list-of-mps-who-voted-for-and-against-dumping-raw-sewage-into-seas-and-rivers-3433000

itsgettingweird · 21/08/2022 10:42

My MP voted for it.

The same MP who has been all over FB on our coastal waters in sailing boats and thanking everyone for taking her out and talking about conversation issues.

I know she's a two faced idiot but what makes me angry is that she's so brazen about it because we are a Tory stronghold and because no one stands up and asks her or challenges her.

And if they do she doesn't respond to the emails

Blossomtoes · 21/08/2022 12:13

Needless to say, my waste of space did. I didn’t really need to check. Utter bastards, what did they gain from it?

Roussette · 21/08/2022 12:41

Against mine after searching him it says 'no vote recorded'. I presume he took the cowards way out.

Talking about my MP, I wonder if he is running scared because bizarrely I have received an email from him, not in response to me contacting him. The last time I emailed was during partygate. And I have received a long detailed email, which... given he often doesn't respond at all, I was very surprised to see.
His email details how he did vote against BJ in the VONC, and how he is now going to vote for Sunak.

I found this sentence interesting...
Although Boris Johnson is going to stay on as a caretaker Prime Minister, I am sure that the new Cabinet will act as a constraint on what he can do

I imagine my MP (who is on the 1922 committee) is heartily sick of BJ. Although that sentence is totally contradictory as we can't have a new cabinet until we have a new PM.

All very odd. I have high hopes we can see him out at the next GE (he's been here for about 29 years!) but it will take tactical voting as Labour would never win here.

Jason118 · 21/08/2022 12:48

My MP also loves a bit of shitty water. I emailed her at the time, the response contains "The accusations of some that voting against Amendment 45 is somehow voting ‘in favour of sewage in our waterways’ is simply untrue."
That's a nice big circle to try and square.

Novum · 21/08/2022 12:57

Have you asked her how she justifies that one, @Jason118?

My MP is Lib Dem and of course voted against.

Blossomtoes · 21/08/2022 13:04

Maybe he’ll stand down @Roussette. His pension must be healthy after 29 years. I envisage quite a few long-standing Tory MPs deciding enough is enough after the last few months.

Roussette · 21/08/2022 13:18

Blossom Yes, I do hope so! Just realised he's been the MP for 30 years Shock although the boundaries changed a bit. He's 69, surely he should be retiring, fingers x'd.

I just don't think anyone can be in this sort of post for that length of time and be doing a reasonable job, whoever they are. He doesn't spend much time here as he has a farm on the other side of the country.

tobee · 21/08/2022 14:26

Either money being made by mp or mates for not processing it properly

Or money being made by mp or mates for dumping it

Or money being saved by mp or mates for not not processing it

Or "if we do this, we can do that <insert utterly despicable thing> in the future" to do the first or second thing above

Whoops meant to quote this for above 😬

tobee · 21/08/2022 14:30

Reading the news this morning I'm more and more thinking that the kind of horrors the next administration may be dreaming up are beyond most normal people's imagination.

Jason118 · 21/08/2022 16:03

@Novum - yes, tumbleweed.
