Is it weird to ask for ice cream cones to be put in a paper bag?

Treated my DD to ice cream tonight and the girl behind the counter looked at me like I had two heads when I asked if she could wrap them up for me.

When we used to get ice cream cones they were always wrapped up in thin greaseproof type paper and put in a bag so you could take them home- is this not done any more?

Never seen that in my lifetime. Mid 40s.

Tiredmum100 · 06/08/2022 20:48

I've never seen or heard of that before? So you mean you would finish the ice cream and then take home the cones? I thought you just ate them at the time?

MammaWeasel · 06/08/2022 20:50

Odd, surely, to take an ice cream cone home? 🤔

candlecandleburnonbright · 06/08/2022 20:50

I wonder if it's a Scottish thing.

No, the full cone would be wrapped in the thin paper and put in a paper bag.

Never heard of that!

godmum56 · 06/08/2022 20:51

did it not melt?

Svara · 06/08/2022 20:51

How would it not melt?

bloodywhitecat · 06/08/2022 20:51

I don't think I have ever had a traditional cone wrapped in anything, sugar cones sometimes had a little wrapper on them but not the old school cones.

SoftSheen · 06/08/2022 20:52

Never, ever heard of that! Doesn't the ice-cream melt before you get home?

Vallmo47 · 06/08/2022 20:52

Diagram needed.

Svara · 06/08/2022 20:52

If I wanted home icecream I would buy a tub

candlecandleburnonbright · 06/08/2022 20:53

No, a short walk or drive and they'd be absolutely fine. I think it might even keep them cooler.

My dad and I would go and get them for all of us rather than everyone going to the shop. DD and I wanted to eat in the car tonight so a bag would have been easier than carrying drippy cones along the street.

Wtf? Sorry have no idea what this means!

NoSquirrels · 06/08/2022 20:53

It’s not really a take-home dessert, though, is it? It’s an eat as you go treat.

Fascinated to see if anyone else has experienced it though!

angelopal · 06/08/2022 20:53

Don't think it's a Scottish thing. Never seen or heard of it.

GetOffTheRoof · 06/08/2022 20:54

Yes, fellow Scot here. Only at the Italian places though.

Whadda · 06/08/2022 20:54

I’ve never heard of this either.

Is it not very messy as the ice-cream would stick to the paper?

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 06/08/2022 20:55

Surely it would melt before getting home?
Never seen this in Scotland or anywhere else

candlecandleburnonbright · 06/08/2022 20:55

I'm desperately searching Google for a picture!

Sounds a bit messy and complicated, but each to their own

Floralnomad · 06/08/2022 20:56

Mid 50s and I’ve never heard of anyone doing this .

Chemenger · 06/08/2022 20:56

I’m Scottish and I have never seen of heard of this.

Tired2tired · 06/08/2022 21:00

Scottish and I eat far too much ice-cream and never seen this before!

SleepingStandingUp · 06/08/2022 21:01

Surely the ice cream gets all mushy in the bottom of the bag tho?
