I'm petrified of oceans and seas - deep waters in general. But I'm also completely obsessed with it too; I'll watch anything to do with marine life, oceans, sharks (😱) even though it scares the shit out of me. I live on the coast and love it, but jeez-oh it scares me.

What about you?

Watching wasp larvae hatch out of a caterpillar! Reminded me of aliens. Made me feel sick but I couldn't stop watching and filming

JosephineMaynardd · 07/08/2022 18:16

Fire.

the80sweregreat · 07/08/2022 18:25

Murderers and murders , because I cannot fathom how anyone could do this to another human being whatever the circumstances of it ( especially if it was premeditated)
I used to buy books written about serial killers etc.

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 18:31

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling yes to bear attacks. I was reading about a Russian girl who slowly got eaten by a bear and over the space of an hour kept ringing her mum and talking her mum through the bear attack saying stuff like “oh it’s Cubs are here now and they’re all eating me”

horrifying.

Susie3366 · 07/08/2022 18:50

The Buzzer. Learned about it just as Russia were invading Ukraine. It's been around since the 70s and is a Russian military radio transmission from a shack somewhere in Russia. The location used to be unknown and moved a few times. Can be picked up using certain radio equipment or on a live YouTube video:

Sometimes voices can be heard on it. Other times it gets hacked and you can hear PacMan noises on it 😂which I've heard before. I believe it's still not 100% known the purpose for it. I did read that if it ever stops, then nuclear war is imminent... No idea if that's true!

On the subject of missing people upthread, my cousin went missing (military) overseas and hasn't been seen in 10 years. No trace. It's awful to have no closure.

@ArrangeYourFace1

Rabbit hole for those final statements. The worst is the endings of many 'OK warden I'm ready'. Stories of those imprisoned in places like the tower of London, waiting, knowing they face the noose. I find it hard to put myself in their mind for very long, imagining how they felt.

Some of those in Texas are obviously men who have done terrible things but I still can reconcile myself to death penalty. Feels like 2 wrongs, but maybe I would think differently if the crimes had happened to someone I knew.

KisstheTeapot14 · 07/08/2022 19:20

Can't reconcile. Sorry typo.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 07/08/2022 19:25

The planes crashing into the twin towers. I watch every documentary on the subject. The planes just disappeared.

Whaaaat! That’s horrifying! How was she calm enough to call her mum and explain what was happening?!

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 07/08/2022 20:50

Potholes - wtf would anyone want to go down one? I am extremely claustrophobic to the point of being unable to pull tight necked tops over my head and I cannot wear tight-fitting clothes at all 😱🤢
Heights, sheer drops, tall buildings - they make me feel incredibly dizzy and sick.
Axototls - we had one at school, I couldn’t go anywhere near it.
Sinkholes - just utterly terrifying as are tsunamis.
People with extreme deliberate body changes, why? Just why? Lizard man is simply an utter freak.

CathyorClaire · 07/08/2022 21:19

Heights, sharks and prison.

Love vertigo, terror and claustrophobia inducing dramas/films on all of them both though Hmm Grin

CathyorClaire · 07/08/2022 21:24

I also quite like urban exploration stories/videos involving abandoned buildings.

Freaky how quickly nature takes over...

Jollygreen · 07/08/2022 21:36

Bronies.

cockandball · 07/08/2022 22:19

I love reading about expeditions and mountain climbing e.g. Ranulph Fineness type stuff, people going out into the wilderness, Reinhold Masser, Any/Arctic expeditions, extreme heat and cold. Love reading it from my comfy sofa or garden. It's extraordinary how often it's on a knife edge, life or death, and why people are willing to risk everything for that insatiable adrenaline hit. Completely mad and inspiring

OhMerde · 07/08/2022 22:43

Anesthetics.

appleaday12 · 07/08/2022 22:59

@lurchermummy it is truly terrifying isn't it?!!
It's set in the most beautiful surroundings but your eyes go straight to the sound of the water being , it seems, sucked down a giant plug hole!!!!!!!!!!
Gave me the creeps for years!!!

Eminybob · 07/08/2022 23:19

Abandoned places

Giant statues, especially ruins when where's only like a giant foot left behind and you can imagine the colossal size (like in Lost)

Paternoster lifts. I like to watch videos of people going over the top.

TitaniasAss · 08/08/2022 08:48

@Eminybob paternoster lifts are the stuff of nightmares. Not a chance would I go in one.

Cults. People who join cults, escape cults and set up cults. I find it horrifying and fascinating in equal measure.

BeanieTeen · 08/08/2022 11:37

Few that freaked me was as mentioned on here the Nutty Putty Cave, the Los Alfaques disaster and this aircrash where the pilot let his child sit in the plane seat and pretend to fly the plane and they managed to turn off the auto pilot which then led to the plane eventually crashing. And its not like all of them are way back in the past either!

Goes away and Google’s ‘Nutty Putty Cave’… sounds innocuous enough - can’t be worse than being eaten alive by a bear surely… Instantly regrets googling Nutty Putty Cave!!

What a risky Pandora’s Box this thread is!

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling Yes! And that poor Chinese woman that got eaten in a wildlife park after she got out of the car. I always wonder what it would feel like and what you’d be thinking 😳 xxx

Actually she survived. Her MIL who went to her rescue ~whilst her "dh" stood flapping/ran back to car~ was killed (by a second tiger who was attracted to the commotion).

yes I'm repelled and drawn to apex predator attacks on humans also... can you tell? 😆

thecurtainsofdestiny · 08/08/2022 12:45

Another one who wishes she hadn't googled the Nutty Putty caveShock

waterlego · 08/08/2022 12:48

I saw a picture of a giant bat on Twitter the other day. It terrified me but I couldn’t stop going back for another look. And then even went Googling for more pictures. I’m not posting it here because then I’d have to look at it again and I also don’t want to force anyone else to look at it. Such an amazing creature but really made me feel so unsettled.
