Shit - I weigh 14 stone

I am 5 foot tall. I have always struggled with my weight and since Covid I've not even bothered to weigh myself. The last time I did weigh myself I was 12 stone seven. Today I decided to see what I weighed as I have had a couple of busy weeks. Shock is an understatement. !

I have been in denial about my weight – blaming it on menopause and other hormonal issues. I obviously need to get a grip for my health at the very least. Have any of you successfully lost around four stone and kept it off.

Could you please share how you did it and provide any advice/help. Thank you

Try the Dr. Michael Mosley blood sugar diet.

Not me op but my dh lost 4 stone and kept it off.

There's no secret I'm afraid, you've got to completely overhaul your diet and lifestyle.

Ultimately you need to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight, you need to be burning more calories than you are eating. There are lots of ways to achieve this.

Dh ate simple, straightforward, nutritious, filling food. Porridge oats, salads, vegetables, lots of protein, eggs, wholemeal bread, plain Greek yoghurt.

Do some exercise even when you don't feel like it.

Hedonism · 11/08/2022 08:27

I just wrote a long post and lost it 😫

But basically what I was trying to say was that I followed the no-s diet, lost 3 stone in 2017 and it is still off because my habits have changed. Easy to flow and fits well with family life.

I lost 4.5 stone last year with WW. I did put half a stone back on, but I feel settled at my current weight (10 stone) and finding it fine to maintain. With WW, the main thing I did was massively cut down on bread, cheese, pasta and chocolate, and added loads more fruit, vegetables and eggs and only have 1 or 2 squares of chocolate a day. So lots of stir fries and casseroles. What I found helped me was batch cooking and freezing loads of soups casseroles etc so I always had healthy, easy food available. And always had plenty of 0-1 point snacks available to eat whenever I felt hungry.

I also increased my activity and did a YouTube exercise video every day. I varied this between cardio, pilates, yoga, HIIT, whatever I fancied or had time for that day. Also a daily walk. And I feel so much better for all of it. 😀

Mammyloveswine · 11/08/2022 09:09

Can I join too? Also 14 stone, at 5 foot 5... I was 12 stone 10 at the start of lockdown... im appalled at how heavy I am! I was 9 stone 12 when I got pregnant with DS2!!! And only 10 stone 8 after having him!!

I want a stone and a half off by the end of September then another stone off for a family do in early November.. another stone off by Christmas then I will concentrate on toning up and slowly losing the last stone!

I'm calorie counting and going to the gym/walking lots!

catfunk · 11/08/2022 09:16

If you're snacking a lot it's likely because your meals are carb heavy and not keeping your bloody sugar stable.

I would suggest more:
Eggs
Cheese
Greek yoghurt
Chicken
Fish
Cottage cheese
Nuts
And LOADS of veg
Small portions of whole grain carbs but I went cold turkey for a month as I struggled to cut down

And less/ no :
Sugar
Refined carbs
Alcohol

Hi. I'll tag along too.
I'm 5'6" and last week I was 14.3.

My area do 12 weeks free at slimming world through the NHS and it was a simple online form I filled in with my details. Then they gave me a choice of an online nutritional course, or 12 weeks free at slimming world.

I've done weight watchers before but never slimming world.
Off in a mo to see what I've lost in my first week.

I'm a teacher so I'm off for the holidays which often leads to me putting weight on if I'm not careful. But this year I decided I was going to try to use August off to lose weight not gain it.

Giraffefantastico · 11/08/2022 10:10

I'll join!

13 stone (5ft 11) but that was before my holiday so it's likely I've put on since last time I checked. During covid lockdowns I gained 1.5 stone that I haven't been able to shift since.

Going to try and increase the exercise and cut back on the calories but find it so hard! I just really lack the willpower sometimes

Has anyone actually lost 4st and looked ok afterwards? I have 4st to lose but I’m worried about loose skin.

Yes.. I lost at least 7 stone ( I wouldn't weigh to begin with) and am now a size 12/14 and nearly 6 foot ( don't weigh anymore but have truth jeans). I don't have any hanging skin because I moved with weights ( Pilates with weights or yoga with ankle weights) I am so under arm niggly bits but nothing you would notice just I know . My biggest issues were misunderstanding how little carbs I needed and eating breakfast. The week I started intermittent fasting it all came off . At my lowest I was a size 10 but because of my height and wanting to move a lot it was too much. I've got a bit of summer excess to lose but will go back to the basics .

doubleshotcappuccino · 11/08/2022 10:31

Also just another note on intermittent fasting - if you have a "cheat day" which isn't a bad thing .. and you don't intermittent fast on that day it can take up to four days to reset ( source: amazing Andrew Huberman podcasts) . and also can't emphasis enough the importance of enough sleep and water . You can actually add more weight loss by sleeping more ..

Onlyrainbows · 11/08/2022 10:34

That's after the 4st loss... But I was a runner and did strength training and yoga (no lifting).

Shit - I weigh 14 stone

6lb off in my first week. Wow!

doubleshotcappuccino · 11/08/2022 12:18

@Onlyrainbows oh my
Goodness ! Amazing ! @DrMadelineMaxwell that's fantastic ! This is motivating me again to get back to the plan !

Tearsofthemushroom · 11/08/2022 15:38

5lbs in the first week for me! Really pleased and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Only struggle is trying to do vigorous exercise in the morning when I haven’t eaten.
so good to see the results so quickly.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 13/08/2022 23:06

I'm finding that the heat is making it easier to stick to the plan at the moment - too hot to eat. And I'm making good choices, eating a lot of fruit.

I'm not going to be making this week's meeting because v last minute I've been invited to join friends in Majorca.

So I've got 4 days post-meeting now to be as good as possible, then 5 days away inc travelling time.

I can honestly say I won't be going mad - the friends I go away with aren't pudding people, for instance - but also won't be great (because they ARE alcohol people!).
Then I'll have another 4 days to further limit any damage I've done before my next meeting a week on Thurs.
I'm just going to hope for a loss - any loss.
