Can I just say he's an utter fucking legend? Love him. After Life 1 and 2 helped me through a really shit time... now watching Derek and it's making me cry my eyes out and laugh so much it literally hurts. I wish I could be mates with his gang of friends on there. My kind of people. Swearing, uncouth but kind and non judgemental as fuck.

He's not just a comedian he's a brilliant emotional actor too.

Go Ricky!! Love Kerry Godliman too.

Love him too, I am not the marrying type but I would marry him tomorrow.

have t watched afterlife yet but I can watch the office & extras on repeat! I am howling laughing every time!

I LOVE that he refuses to apologise when people are offended & I absolutely love his dedication to animal welfare.

I think I might actually stalk him & make him fall in love with me!🤣

He is very clever - and very funny. He makes what he does look easy but his timing ...and carefully calculated use of language - well!

I love his stand-up and After-life. I didn't manage to get through two episodes of The Office but would like to try 'Extras'.

It's Derek you're really missing out on if you haven't seen it, especially if you liked Afterlife.

FMSucks · 31/07/2022 22:13

Love Ricky! It’s his values and beliefs I love the most about him. He is not into religion, believes in science, prefers animals (specifically dogs) to humans, advocates and is actively involved in animal charities and rescues, what’s not to love?! Saw his standup last year, fantastic. He is a very clever, articulate man and if you offered me to go for a drink with anyone on the planet, I would choose him.

Yes I love him he's lovely

Well he's not he's a misery arse about some things mostly what I am a misery arse about but I like him

I'm glad he's doing well he seems down to earth. Grateful for his success and he still has that way about him like he could be someone you work with everyday etc.

limitededitionbarbie · 31/07/2022 22:22

Afterlife was one of the best things I've watched.

It was really good the way he played his part. It felt very real to me.

Love him

Mooserp · 31/07/2022 22:23

I used to love the Facebook live videos he did with his cat Ollie. He clearly loved her so much 😥
And I once saw a video he was doing when out for a walk and whatever he was talking about was interrupted when he spotted a cat and started talking to them instead.

I like him most for that.

The Office was genius. I think you had to see it when it first aired to appreciate that. So many comedy shows have been influenced by it since.

kittenkipping · 31/07/2022 22:25

I adore his most of his comedy, and think his wealth fame and fortune very well deserved. As a man, he seems slightly tedious- I'd not want to drink with him and his ego, BUT he is funny, clever, and he is clearly very kind and cares deeply about animal welfare and passionately advocates for and donates huge amounts to numerous charities and lives his life in a way that reflects his values re animals. He is so openly devoted to his long term partner, Jane, it's touching. His tweets about his cats show more love and affection than mine do for my children. There is no question that he is also hugely driven- a self made man, he didn't have friends in the right places or come from wealth- he's pulled himself out of the estate and into the mansion on his own merit. His teeth make me cringe, and I get the impression he's a funny bully, and as I said, I'd not long for time spent with him, but that's neither here nor there. His acting writing and comedy are often great

ToffeeNotCoffee · 31/07/2022 22:27

I LOVE that he refuses to apologise when people are offended

Why ?

He's a bully.

You admire smug bullies who abuse their popularity to act like some sort of arsehole and get praised and applauded for it ?

StoneWallandRoses · 31/07/2022 22:29

I've thoroughly enjoyed all the series he has produced, they are so witty, entertaining, sometimes thought-provoking and quite touching overall.

Strangely, I don't like his stand up specials.
His animated podcasts had me and DH howling sometimes gasping for breath - we still reference the face on the bucket in a pushchair.

He's currently come under criticism for his gender critical views. Like he gives a damn.

I didn't write that- but yes. I admire a person willing to stand by their belief in the wake of offence and criticisms. I feel that it is few and far between a character that refuses to bend, that doesn't simply crow a "sorry" when threatened with unpopularity. It's rare and a test of integrity- whether you agree with the initial opinion or not

TheBestBitch · 31/07/2022 22:30

I love him. The pronoun sketch is brilliant

kittenkipping · 31/07/2022 22:34

To carry on with my point- aren't you disgusted when politicians apologise and parrot what they think their audience want to hear whilst clearly acting in direct defiance of their words? Disingenuous celebrities who jump on every bandwagon and call it their own (recent favourites being pride- cishet celebs claiming it an issue close to their heart! Or autism/ nd- an NT celeb claiming it's their personal passion)

Agree or disagree with gervais- he stands by his opinion. He has the courage of his conviction. I'm admire that

thenightsky · 31/07/2022 22:38

I'd like to introduce him to my lurcher. I'm sure they'd get on.

Derek is one of the best things I've ever watched. Humanity, his stand up, was amazing too.

SunflowerSmith · 31/07/2022 22:44

I think he's a rubbish actor and not funny however he adores dogs and that makes me like him.

Thank you, you said it best! Fully agree.

ClinkeyMonkey · 01/08/2022 00:05

@ToffeeNotCoffee in what way is he a bully? I can see very, very clearly that you don't like him, but who has he bullied?

MintyGreenDreams · 01/08/2022 00:11

I love him and regularly listen to the old podcasts with Steve and Karl.Karl Pilkington is my spirit animal .

balalake · 01/08/2022 07:11

I am not that keen on his work, but there is one aspect of it that I do respect and in a way admire. Any comedy, idea, series seems to be one not overdone, some awareness that you do not and in any many cases should not do series after series. You'd never have the number of series and years of a Ricky Gervais comedy in the way that say happened with My Family, Last of the Summer Wine, for example.

creamwitheverything · 01/08/2022 13:22

I think he is so talented. I love his sarcasm and his I don;t give a toss attitude when you know he really does give very much of a toss. His work on the OIffice,Afterlife and Derek are outstanding,The casts he chooses and the subject matters are very real and relateable. His stand up is beautiful to behold,so clever,so smart and so cutting. The time ,effort ,patience and dedication he shows to his craft is so intense yet it looks so effortless. He is one on his own and I for one would love to buy him a beer in the pub!! I dont harbour a secret or not so secret crush on the man but I would love to ask tonnes of questions on how he does what he does.I reckon him to be a kind, gentle ,humble soul and I dont think ,genuinely don;t think power and money ever attracted him, could be wrong but its my take.He is gloriously brilliant at what he does. I think if he was my next door neighbour we would get on when we were putting the bins out! he seems a thouroughly decent bloke, open and honest to me.
