Just had very strange call from the midwife

Demanding to know why I'd missed lots of ante natal appointments and my 20 week scan and saying she was coming to see me tomorrow morning. After a slightly stunned silence I said I thought maybe she'd got the wrong person as I wasn't pregnant. According to her records, I'm 21 weeks pregnant. She's really concerned as I'm classed as high risk (true)

She had the right person - right date of birth, address, name and she was the same lovely midwife I had when I was pregnant with DS and DD. I remember her well she's a lovely woman.

She was absolutely mystified by my insistence that I am not so far as I know 25 weeks pregnant... but not quite so mystified as me by the news that I am.

DD is 16 and DS is very nearly 10 - I'm not planning another Grin

Coffee at the ready!

This did make me laugh. Have you moved house recently? When we moved last year a health visitor showed up to check on my newborn baby. Was worried I hadn’t checked in when we moved. Said I looked well but was confused as to where my 7-day-old baby was. At which point my 3-year-old ‘baby’ popped his head out of the kitchen and said hello.

How very weird. At least they've missed all their appointments rather than making them under a false name. I suspect a clerical error.

Can't have missed them all. They had a scan booked.

The incorrect date input makes the most sense.
I hope there's not some poor woman who's been refused her 20 week scan because the DOB on her file doesn't match the incorrectly inputted one or similar.

TheDogsMother · 26/07/2022 09:53

A woman turned up at my doorstep announcing she was the midwife here for a visit. I was pretty confident it wasn't for me as I was 51 at the time and very much not pregnant. I was completing on my house sale the next day and it turns out the buyer who was moving in had just had a baby !

Mistakes happen. When MiL and FiL accessed their GP records on the app, there was mention on hers of her scrotum!

How very modern 😁

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/07/2022 10:05

I’d mostly be concerned to check someone isn’t nicking your ID. So I would contact the trust to get an explanation.

GlamGiraffe · 26/07/2022 10:29

I tecently had a call from a health visitor asking questions about my son. I thpught it was very strange but politely managed to get rid of her quickly and commented it was very strange to get a call relating to a 20year old. She was stunned and asked me for his date of birth it turned out 2002 had been transposed as 2022 making him a newborn baby in her eyes. I suspect a similar thing has happened here.

‘All I can say is you'd be amazed how many people leave a door unlocked overnight!!’

Not if they are feeling unwell/have chronic health conditions/limited mobility/live alone.

I have been told ‘I felt so unwell, I left the front door on the latch in case I needed an ambulance in the night’.

If you live in an area which is generally safe, then on the balance of risk, when unwell it’s better for emergency services to come straight in rather than the delay of waiting for the find a neighbour with a key/police break down the door for access.

Clairejay34 · 26/07/2022 10:39

Just here for the update 😁

Petitecoccinelle · 26/07/2022 10:43

Definitely would like an update too! I hope you can have some fun with her!

Oh dear. You can check your full credit rating at checkmyfile. I think you get a free trial. Worth it for peace of mind. (Although it won’t tell you who’s pregnant!)

Mistakes happens and they are very reluctant to correct them. Once it's on the computer it's treated as holy writ. I received results a couple of years ago for a smear test I hadn't had. The GP surgery kept insisting I was wrong and it was only when I made an official complaint that they dealt with it. They made it very clear that they didn't want to deal with recalling women who had the wrong test result.

I also keep getting reminders for a toddler jab my DS had and apparently somehow wasn't entered on the system. I have it written on his child records with the little batch number sticker etc which I've shown them and asked them to update but 12 years later they still send reminders sporadically.

What if you got the moses basket out and some baby clothes and let her examine you, then look really upset and say 'but you said I was pregnant '😂

Yes, please do! I wonder if she’ll bring the Doppler and listen for the heartbeat??

Newestname002 · 26/07/2022 10:56

@listsandbudgets

I hope the midwife does not make prophecies or similar

If she is, ask for today's Euromillions numbers... 🌹

MercurialMonday · 26/07/2022 11:17

Bet it just an admin mistake.

We had issues last GP - our surname is rare and there were distant family - 3/4 cousins in area with same surname - DD1 has old name which was on a come back - was not same first name as DD1 but we were clearly getting old female with same surname post at times - and yes the GP admin people weren't helpful in sorting it out.

Pigsears · 26/07/2022 11:28

If it was mixed up records. I would be concerned.

I applied for critical illness cover- and the company contacted my GP. GP gave the wrong details to the insurance company (another patient). I was refused cover. Despite a retraction from the GP- its caused ongoing problems.

TollgateDebs · 26/07/2022 11:32

Think I'd be checking this is not identity theft!

listsandbudgets · 26/07/2022 11:35

Well, it's official - I have a professional opinion that I am definitely not pregnant.

She said it was probably an admin error, that she didn't do the booking in etc. or would have realised I wasn't me. She decided to take it on when it flagged up as she knew me and thought it was best as she was familiar with the history. They had to check as obviously it could flag up all sorts of welfare issues if mum denies being pregnant when records show she is - but I'm obviously not pregnant 21 weeks or otherwise (unless it's so early even I don't know yet)

They've now got to track down WHO is pregnant because clearly someone is or was and they're not engaging which is a concern in itself especially when they've been marked as high risk (or at least I am!!)

She was pleased to see DS and DD who were home and delighted I remembered her favourite biscuits were chocolate bourbons though she's also partial to a hobnob Grin

So sorry everyone almost certainly a mundane admin error - reckon I can put the moses basket and maternity leave application forms away now Grin

Aw, shame, I was thinking of knitting you an imaginary matinee jacket for the imaginary baby. Still, I think if you want to identify as a pregnant woman then you have every right to do so, right up until the moment you stagger into the hospital at 41 weeks demanding that they fill the birthing pool and give you the decent drugs.

PinkyFlamingo · 26/07/2022 11:46

Sadly mistakes can and do happen even with computerised records.

listsandbudgets · 26/07/2022 11:52

@viques with all this stress I reckon I will be giving birth to 41 week quads called Ben and Jerry, Hagen and Daz.
